At night if you're being stalked by a bear just climb a tree to determine what kind if bear it is. If the bear climbs the tree it's a black bear. If it knicks it down it's a grizzly

They're incredibly timid animals as a result of evolving alongside much more powerful american predators that only went extinct a very short time ago. People routinely steal cubs right from their mothers with minimal attacks, that's how cowardly they are.

I remember one time I was about 6 we were at our grandparents house for thanksgiving and I was walking past the sliding glass door and just SCREAMED cause there were two bear cubs trying to get out turkey and I was freaking out super scared and my brothers dad and uncles were trying to scare off the bears throwing snowballs at them the baby bears left and came back a few times but they eventually brought down mama and she was not happy so we eventually we just let them have the turkey lol

The mother is in a semi-hibernated state. Even if she wanted to attack, she couldn't. Her body has slowed her heart beat down to only the minimal amount of beats to sustain life. And she'll stay like that until spring. That's why they try and find the most well-hidden areas they can to hibernate. They're vulnerable.
