I love all your videos. I hate to say it, but I think you are wrong here. Think of you of you javelin video. Discus is also linear as far as the drive line. You throw your heal out to cheat the circle, but want to drive the line. By using your method you lose the line. Also discus is not a timed event, so speed outside the circle doesn't mean anything on your time saving point. The outward heal kick is needed to build up speed (that he why the south African is practiced). To get max speed you throw the heal up so as high as you can to drive down the line, but land with the ball of the foot. I am just a novice coach, but notice when you throw you drive the line. Please correct me if I am wrong.

@Blakemilkshake Watch the videos. Practice hard and don't expect to get it overnight. I have an entire discus throw playlist on my youtube channel. Click on my name to go to the channel and check out the videos for help. I also have an off season training eBook on my website. Please go to PrimalATC. com to check it out.

If you start with the shoulders hunched over too low, it is very hard to time the drive into the circle with good posture. Starting with good posture and the shoulders back will make it easier for you to get in a better position as you drive through the circle.

In the power position, yes (as long as you are right handed). This will allow you to turn your hips all the way around and face down the middle of the throwing sector.

@jgelsch I don't have an entire series done yet, but please ask some questions and I would be happy to make videos explaining what you need answered.
@EliteThrowsCoaching12 жыл бұрын
You need to watch the whole video series. This is just a drill. In the full throw you don't put the foot down outside the circle.

@jgelsch OK. I have been getting a lot of javelin questions lately and will do a javelin technique series for everyone.

@WOWZERS805 No idea. Usually it is a form issue. Let me know more details or post up a video so I can take a look.

If I had a freshman boy throwing between 90 and 110 feet I would be very happy. Decent or good would be in the 80 to 90 foot range. Remember, it all depends on the athlete.

Already did dude. Go to the PrimalATC . com website. On the video page is the glide shot put videos.

Hello.. how about for a girl freshman? My 14 yr old daughter is primarily a vball player, but did discus in 8th grade -ended up winning conference-she was excited and now this year she went to just throwing.. first throw of the season (mind you with throws at practice prior as she missed the discus practice day) She got 89/88.9/s/66.5 What should she be shooting for? Thanks so much Great video.

Thank you a lot your videos have helped me so much develop my discus throwing. i just have a question about video 4 about how to get in position to throw. i understood how to do it but i have small hands so i wont be able to do hold the discuss steadily as you showed. i have upper body strength however. Is there another way to throw a discuss?.

Matt thanks for the videos. I have watched all the shot put series and am teaching my 7 year old son and it is really working. I have watched this video again and again but I cant understand the left instead of the middle concept at the back of the circle. I think it is a bit harder to see without the circle.

Just wanted to say thank you and also I have a question. my coach told me to have my right heel at level with my left toe. Do I have to do this and if I do how does it benefit me?

I feel like i am plateauing in my throw, is this a strength issues or a flaw in form holding me back. I mean I am pretty strong so I was just wondering

Flexibility is huge. You need to get your body in awkward positions, you can't do that without being flexible.

Hey coach matt how big of a role does flexibility play in being a thrower?

You just don't get the advantage of long arms, which means you dont have as much 'The lever arm' (leveridge or how its written). That means you dont get the bonus longer people do.

Coach - great videos. Novice throwers that I train throw their upper body to start the spin and are never on balance on the left. Understanding how to create movement with the lower body and shifting weight is a tough one. Good stuff.

i am getting ready to graduate this year and it decided to do spring track, but for throwing. i really can't stand shot put so i am a discus thrower, for the first time. so far, just from the power stance i can throw about 100 feet but i just cant seem to transfer my weight into the disc when i go to release it. any tips?

EliteThrowsCoaching exactly. Do you plan on ever making a new discus series?
@EliteThrowsCoaching6 жыл бұрын
Newer discus playlist from about 4 years ago is under this channel. Nothing about throwing discus has changed in 40+ years. There are probably 100-150 discus videos under this channel already. Lots of information to take in.
