Sir I watched your video and I understand that you took the class very well. What should I do for my son to get an appointment in your clinic?
@amoooooose27 күн бұрын
I've found that for me personally, I get a stronger/faster spin on the disc when I release it on the pad of my finger. However, it's worth noting that when you release with the pad of your finger it is also less consistent due to the playable nature of the skin in that area. (Edit): By the pad of my finger I mean the tip. Just for clarification.

Just a fast question I'm helping my son with the glide and he dose glide well start low could go lower and could kick his back legs a bit harder and tuck it in more so he's half rotated when he lands the kicking leg bit one thing iv noticed is that's when he wipes his left hand round and up ! Then pushes the shot up and rotates he comes off the floor any help on how he can stop that iv not said anything to him because I need the glide fast
@EliteThrowsCoaching2 ай бұрын
More than likely it is either a bad habit that he is "jumping and throwing" from doing other sports that involve throwing a ball (like baseball, football, etc) and that needs to be trained just like the other aspects of the throw. Or his feet are too wide and his power foot is not under him enough which is causing the foot to come up before he throws. So you can try to get the power foot more under him in the power position, or keep training the habit of heeling the power foot down until after he releases the shot.

@@EliteThrowsCoaching I'd love to send a vidio ar you on any other social media. that is the most common problem in throwers learning the full throw movements, and quite possibly the most difficult defect to correct. the idea that yanking the left arm around "helps" the spin can take seasons to fix, and some never fix it at all who then wonder why their distances never improve. a famous discus champion, Al Oerter told the group at my son's 1st clinic, "if your throw sucks at the end, FIX the beginning". and this simple fix will allow the rest of the throw's movements to fall into place correctly. mess up this initial step and the rest of the movement and delivery suffers.

I agree with the having the disc along the ridges of the fingers. It gives more contact surface area allowing for a better grip and really rip the disc. Arete throwing or whatever coaches the other way you showed which didn’t make sense. Glad you made this vid.
@EliteThrowsCoaching4 ай бұрын
I like Eric at Arete. I’ve never seen his discus grip video. I’ll need to take a look. This is how I’ve always taught it. List of huge throws this way.
@EliteThrowsCoaching4 ай бұрын
Ok so I just found it. In Eric’s defense, it looks like he has very long fingers. Like he can almost palm the 2kg. I have a big palm with above average fingers. His first digits (where his nails are) looks much longer than mine. Grip is very personal based on hand and finger size.

Going to try to implement these practice layouts for my middle schoolers. Only in my second year coaching, so it has been difficult for me to go back to the beginning with the kids that have never touched a shot in their life. Already partway through the practice season and meets in a little under 2 weeks but I see so many things that I don't think about myself any more and just do naturally but my kids don't understand. Weather has been bad this week so going to take the next couple of days to go back to basics with drills on the lines!
@EliteThrowsCoaching5 ай бұрын
This is my first year coaching middle school as well! It is quite the change compared to high school athletes. I’ve come to the realization that with bad weather and school vacations and high school meets interrupting practices and a whole host of other issues, if my middle school throwers can end the season knowing 5 to 8 really big, great habits, my job has been a success!

To keep my sweep long and foot low my coach liked to use a traffic cone in place of the bucket, but he would put two of the small green plyo hurdles on their side for me to kick my foot through. If I hit the hurdle and sent it flying, my leg was too high and it usually stung the toe that hit it pretty good. I appreciate the coaching series as they're certainly helping this first year coach try to get kids throwing as far as they'd like.
@EliteThrowsCoaching5 ай бұрын
We sometimes do that as well. About 13 years ago John Godina came to my gym to do a seminar about rotational technique and he showed the mini hurdle standing up drill just like you’re describing.

@@EliteThrowsCoaching My HS coach went to a camp put on by Art Venegas when he was in HS, and then met Godina a few times. So I'm assuming the two got it from the same guy. He also had me doing wall drills quite a bit, and I'm not sure which one showed him that one.
