a small note, the 3 shots to the right of the wyvernblast mine on LBG are not counter mines, they're the ammo for the L2+R1 focus blast:eagle strike which is meant for targeting monster wounds and deals a ton of damage, seemingly no counter required.

Seems to just work Like Normal Level 3's from Gen4 now. Ricochet Style shots, can get multihits on monsters if you shoot through head into wingtips and such

I am almost 100% sure, that Yuya Tokuda confused the infinite ammo with the new Trickshot-system from the bow. The description matches exactly how it works.

@@ZorillaMyrid181 I think it's fine for the RAW ammo types honestly. Having to constantly maintain a stockpile of something is honestly pointless. The only time it will matter is early game, after a few dozen hours you'll have essentially infinite anyway.

Yo thanks for this analysis! I wanna point out that the control guide for HBG states that the focus ammo can also be used as an offset attack if you press triangle while in Ignition mode, which gives HBG a plethora of defensive options. We may be able to stay in the monster’s face the entire hunt without getting hurt

Does this even have to do anything with focus mode? I thought the wyverncounter might be the big cross shape explosive thing we saw in the hbg trailer at the 38 second mark. But I could be wrong, never saw that move again outside the trailer and hope its a thing.

Great analysis as always. I saw something interesting at the very end that has interesting implications for status fanatics like myself. 12:41: -First off: confirmation we got statuses. (Shouldn't be surprising, but we got new gameplay systems that allow us to stagger monsters almost at will, so other things that can control the pace of the battle COULD be affected for bAlAnCiNg purposes) -Secondly: poison ticks are pretty high damage for this stage of the game and ticks very fast. Hoping the other statuses are strong like that. It's got me thinking about how they might work from a meta perspective. For gunners there could be a reason to cycle in all the statuses at some point in the hunt, and for other weapons we can have 2 different status weapons, switching one out after the first 2-3 procs and go for another one. I'm thinking stun then sleep bombing for locking down a monster vs 3-4 procs of blast (good starting burst damage and part breaking) and then switching to poison for pure status damage.

The big question when it comes to status is whether it's worth the ammo space and mod values to use them. Hoping buildup is different and we can do what you're saying. It's what I'm hoping for as well considering we'll be able to use the rapid fire gauge on status ammo. Rapid exhaust+paralyse are always great for a fight. BUT the real question is how much time do you have to spend scavenging mushrooms...

Spread ammo 1 shoots 5 shots now. If we’re getting +1 per upgrade then we’re going back to a 7 shot spread. Raw pierce really dominated rise ticking 7 time in one hitzone so I hope they give us back a certain level of power for playing upclose if they’re going that route.

Hey Phem, you might want to check on the elemental ammo (pierce) from what i heard thunder ammo got a rework and now it just explodes upon contact dealing multiple hits. I might be wrong on this one. Great video and im glad too see you back making video.

The infinite raw ammo makes the bowguns more accessible in the early game, but I liked having to collect resources and setup my quick crafting bars for ammo crafting mid fight. I know the elemental ammo types still require crafting, but Raw has usually performed better in most cases. I hope this doesn't make the weapon class too boring. Still looking forward to it though. Gunner for life!

The other Wyverncounter explosive stake is the HBG’s designated “offset” move. So like the GS and SA Offset Upswing, timing this attack with a monster’s attack will parry and topple the monster. For the melee options they get a follow-up slinger gap closer combo. Not sure what HBG gets.

With the ammo changes, it is far more viable to run BGs off the rip, and not have to spend forever grinding materials or zenny for meaningful ammo. So that's a nice plus, I always waited until endgame to run BGs because by then I had more than enough resources and zenny to buy/craft ammo for my hunts.

Kind of concerned about the mod system on bowguns. One thing I really liked about Rise was the shifting of gun attributes from mods to skills (like ballistics, reload, recoil). I didn't mind sacrificing a bit of DPS for those skills. And it made a few more bowguns viable. But if this is a World-like mod system, I feel like it'll run into the same issue as World where only a handful of guns were usable, especially if limited to 2 mods. Really hope that's not the case. My favorite part of the bowguns are how modular the builds can be. Wish more people actually looked at bowgun attributes during gamescom

Im VERY curious on exactly how normal shot peirce will work. If it' on a per monster basis, itll be a simple Qol change. Minion jumps in front? Doesnt matter. If it reactivates its hitbox when it leaves a body part and can hit the same monster again if it re-enters, it might be quite nice depending on the monster

Man, I love the infinite and streamlined ammo system. Really looking forward to a less finicky gunning experience. I am especially interested in the HBG, as I actually prefer the more grounded gameplay. I don't like weapons that have too many gimmicks to keep in mind. Edit: Also, any details on mounted archery/gunning? I feel like no weapon benefits more from added mobility than the HBG, so I am curious to learn what the downsides are.

only specual ammo is on a recharge, like sticky and cluster. normal 2 is infinite, you can get lvl 3, but you need to use the specual loader, wich will recharge, that is for your burst. elemantal needs to be crafted, and will take inventory slots. i beleave they did this so they didn't have to nerf them again, like in world, that realy sucked, slicer and sticky nerfs, with later cluster joining.

You can turn damage numbers off in the options. That was present in World and Rose so I see no reason they wouldn’t have that option in Wilds. As an old school hunter from before damage numbers were a thing, I also turn them off.

I'm not a fan of the idea of HBG without removable shield mods and a faster roll. I like fatrolling with evade window in world, it makes the weapon feel heavy and is kinda necessary for balance.

The only monster im missing is risen shagaru magala (i know its not the correct order but i dont have the Master Rank yet) and my sets barely start to feel good to play on HBG

i dont like shields and i definitely dont like fatrolling. World Hbg kinda balances this by making hbg either tank hits with shield or rely on stagger locking setups to deal with aggressive monsters which i am not a fan of, old hbg has better interactions with the monster because rolling isn't detrimental to the experience.

Bow looks OP now. Bowgun looks mostly the same with some changes to the finer details. I was really hoping for some super cool new ammo types that would require crafting from various gathered materials. I’m thinking I may try GS and bow as my main 2 weapon combo

oh thank fuck we dont have to think about what level ammo a gun can shot and the make sure we bring the right one if the ammo level is just automatically based on the gun you use that is gonna make it much simpler of just have a bunch of useful ammo in your pocket and use whichever one is best for the weapon i hated swapping out ammo levels that a certain bowgun could not use just so it would not take up twice the damn space XD

Huh. One of my favorite silly builds is "50cal vs dragon". Amping up hbg normal 3s like anti-tank rounds and just relentlessly nailing those weakspots from any range with deadly precision, no gimmicks. That leaves a lot of room for comfort skills, including guard buffs. Kinda looks like that's impossible now which is unfortunate... rather hate (forced) burst fire.

Not really a fan of infinite base ammos without levels. Just kinda takes out knowing anything of the map, or any management of crafting. Just kinda rubbish and moving away from old MH too much. Don't get why it changed, shouldn't have changed. Don't like changing the evade, looks like it will feel flimsy. Not good. Mobility shouldn't be a factor of HBG. If it can block in any direction, this game's going to end up just as boring as Rise for HBG.
