Dacob, please read this. I love my LV pieces. I just got the speedy 20 and it’s perfect. I’ve been collecting LV for over 25 years. I own a Chanel WOC and a 19, both of which are great quality. I’ve wanted a classic for a few years. I could go in there and offer them 3 times the price and they just won’t sell me a classic. It’s so frustrating. And I know they are lying to me. More importantly, thank you so, so much for your videos. I found you about 6 months ago. I have been on short term disability and need neck surgery. . You have absolutely saved me. The days are long and your videos have helped me pass the time. I sit outside on my patio every day with Dacob and coffee. You really are Super. I even became a tier one member recently. Thank you so much for what you do. You have no idea how much these videos affect people depending on their life situation. Well done, my friend.

I used an LV pochette as my every day make up kit for 20 years, 20 years! Finally the stitching started to break down, but the canvas was perfect. I contacted LV to see if they could fix it and they provided a new one for a small fee. LV is a workhorse, and as you said, when I use these pieces they actually make me happy, unlike a lot of other more expensive brands.

I think people misinterpret “basic” with “staples” or “essentials”. I loveee “basic” items because they are needed! A black dress, a good pair of jeans, comfy sneakers, a good pair of leggings. I put LV in that category. Reliable & beautiful & functional

Now, at 30 I feel very happy and satisfied with my style. I wear exclusively black, aside from bags and scarfs, accessories etc. My standard style is a black bodycon dress ( different lengths and arm lengths, depending on season and weather) and a cardigan over Igor a coat, depending on season. Good quality pieces, that last years and nice shoes. I let my bag and accessories make my outfits special. I think my look is quite timeless. And so are the handbags, that I buy. And I think, they elevate my outfits. And they look always timeless. An Alma BB is a classic piece and I can wear it for years. That’s what I love, expanding my collection, instead of throwing three bags out a year and buying three new ones. I buy two , maybe three new bags a year and add them to my collection. After only four years of buying these types of bags, I have a very nice collection and I could Stoppsignal and would have everything that I need. That canvas is very durable. I know, LV wants to sell more leather bags etc. but to me, their canvas pieces are absolutely timeless elegance. I could have worn the same bag, fifty years ago , as I do now. I try, to buy basic things, that go well together and have a great aesthetic and quality. Of course, there are areas, where many people wear the LV logo bags, because they are fakes and that makes it seem, like everyone has these bags. In my area almost nobody wears them. Personally, I prefer Damier to the monogram but it also depends on the piece. I love my basic style and the ability, to quickly elevate it , just with a few accessories.

Coach is a well made brand! I’m not talking about the outlet line. Although some outlet pieces are quite nice. This applies to MK as well. Vintage coach is still out there, and going strong. Tough, well tanned leather! These brands are not to be belittled.

I embrace my basic! I’m called it often because it’s neutral colors and classic silhouettes for me. But at 30 I know what I like and what I’m comfortable in plus I’m surrounded by people I love with bright trendy fabulous style and I can love and admire their fashion without having to adopt it as my own. Yes! I agree. Just thinking about the origins of the brand and how it's made for travel, I have had my eyes opened to the fact that their coated canvas is truly a workhorse!! My two vintage Vuitton finds from the early 80s still look gorgeous and were extremely affordable. (each below 200 USD). These things were built to last, and that's what I think "luxury"should be, no matter what the marketing for luxury brands tells us all. Something that will last as long as you need it...not something you have to replace with another one! I've grown to love the material just for these reasons, instead of just looking at it and saying "oh, that tired ol' monogram...."

Good morning, Dacob and Happy Holidays! I came back to visit this video in particular this morning, because my darling, sweet aunt GAVE me her Louis Keepall Bandouliere 60 this past weekend. I was in shock. It is so beautiful and I found myself looking at my Kirigami and my vintage pieces and thinking how lovely they are, too. LV never really seems basic to me at all. I love how you plan to let Tabatha age and get marks. My speedy 30 is 10 years old and has travelled the world with me and was my only luxury bag for 6 years so I used my bag everyday. It's so aged with water marks and dark brown handles now and it makes me love the bag even more. The bag tells a story, just like your Keepall will. I now have other bags I baby more but the happiness that speedy brought me will always be priceless.

When I hear people call something “basic” to me what they mean is a combo of tacky, overpriced & too common. If you watch luxury content then yes LV is a part of many collections, but its because the items are often practical and timeless. IMO its not basic, but it is a core piece for many who are able to own luxury because it works. A lot of people desire BKN/KLY and its also a part of many collections. Yet many would not consider this basic. You could argue that the monogram makes LV very recognisable, but in the same token IMO most who like luxury can recognise a BKN/KLY/Classic Flap today….

I got my first Louis Vuitton 10 years ago, it’s a Shelton MM and I still use the bag on a regular basis, it was well worth it and shows basically no signs of wear and it’s amazing for travel. Love it and all of my other canvas pieces

Yes, exactly. I technically wear basic clothes. Good Qual but basic styles. Black slim fit pants, shirts etc. and basic black bodycon dresses in different lengths and long arm, short arm or tank, depending on season and weather and nice, good quality cardigans etc. over it. These pieces last me along time. I let my accessories add a certain extra and style. And I get compliments quite often. I don’t buy things that are super trendy. But what I have has been in and out of style for decades and has a timeless esthetic to it. And I have pieces, that lasted ten years too. I also try to not be wasteful.

I guess it all depends on how one defines the term 'basic.' If the term connotes something of lesser value or something negative, then LV would not be basic (as you say). But if you define it as 'essential' or 'foundational' -- a 'must have' or 'work horse' -- then that gives it great/importance or value, imv. The thing about LV is that it is a brand that can be both 'basic' and 'iconic.' Perhaps this is what makes the brand so special and popular. As usual, I enjoyed your commentary!

I have been collecting LV Monogram pieces since 1978 when my grandmother gifted me a wallet. Needless to say the fever took over and I have been purchasing the Monogram collection since. I do believe my vintage items are much better quality but, love the new pieces too. That being said, Hermes is a classic love for me too. But what you love and enjoy.....who cares what others think.

And let's not forget the fact that with LV anyone can access the collections through their online shop and we don't have to play those in-store games like we do with other brands. I personally don't own any true "lux" brand pieces yet. But I look to LV often when I'm thinking about making my first lux purchases.

It’s one thing to be afraid to wear a bag because it’s legitimately a delicate material or maybe a color that shows wear easier than others. But when you’re scared to wear a bag because it costs an insane amount of money and falls apart after 2 uses, that’s a really really big issue!

On another note I enjoy that Louis Vuitton can still cater to the common folk. I don't have to have an extensive purchase history to get pieces. Even with the price increases a Neverfull MM is $2000usd, when a chanel tote is $3900usd. Almost half the price. Both are canvas with leather handles.

I've agonised in the past over buying certain pieces, like the Neverfull, wondering if I'm just wasting money, but the quality and usefulness persuade me that I've spent my money well. I only buy canvas pieces from LV - I just don't think their leather bags are worth the inflated prices - neither the designs nor the quality/workmanship are special enough. I get why LV want to encourage people to purchase the leather goods because the mark-up is (even) more than that on canvas but imo its a marketing mistake. It's their canvas designs that are special and distinctively LV.

I think LV is what you make it, but how it's viewed depends on what type of customers it attracts where you live. I see LV styled so elegantly and timelessly in Zurich, it's even understated in a way. If it's basic here, it's that in the sense that it's not out of reach for most people. Whereas in Budapest where I'm from, it's out of reach for most people, but wearing LV looks like wearing designer knockoffs, just doesn't have the best connotation. Worn there, I can't help but consider it more of a basic brand.

I would call the LV canvas well established and their products more widespread, beloved, and of good quality, but I do personally find logo-heavy prints as a concept a bit basic in general. However, that doesn't make LV--or any brand that relies on logo prints--basic in my eyes. It's just a different style and item prioritizations that I don't share or gravitate towards as a customer. At the end of the day there are only so many lux brands people hold in high regard and hope to afford someday, and very often people go for the signature items when they can afford them, or some variation of them. If anything, we the customers are basic, not the brands, which have proven over decades or centuries (in Hermes' case) that they are esteemed houses still worthy of being in operation and selling the original pieces of quality that helped them achieve the high acclaim they hold to this day that continue to help customers establish the foundations of their wardrobes.

my problem with monogram canvas is that i truly believe they are overpriced and duplicated to death. I have seen replicas that are made exactly the same, great stitching, leather trimmings, that makes it very hard to tell they are fakes. I have a friend who showed me her fake Keepall it was so well done that she took it to the store and the SA thought it was real. She paid for her replica 400 dollars. It was the keepall 50. I don't feel monograms are luxury anymore. IMHO
