I always love hearing Pete Buttigieg speak. I look forward to seeing what is next for him. His understanding that the ever changing, evolving public(newer generations as a main example) and the need to consistently explain issues and how public involvement links to the results wanted is KEY. Also - an afterthought on replacement verbiage for "defunding the police" might be better explained this way: Increase Police Support Teams... maybe this could be the reframe that makes sense to more people? I love that Greek has three different words for love: "philia'' or ''dearness'' (i.e. friend and family love) "eros" (erotic love) and "agape" (the love for other humans, akin to "holy spirit" in many versions of Christianity. It's so refreshing to hear a politician talk unabashedly about the need for agape, especially right now. This is the man who also said "You can't love your country and hate half the people in it. Politics requires more of us than that." I couldn't agree more. Glad for the leadership Pete and Biden and some others are showing in calling us to our higher values.

I heard Pete say one time (in response to an accusation of being "robotic" or "having no emotion") that he "had to learn to control his emotions early on" and that "people like me don't get to wave our arms as much [i.e. be as dramatic] as... others." It struck me as a veiled reference to the fact that to succeed (or "pass") in public life, gay men have to "act straight" and are criticized more harshly when they don't. I eventually got fired in the 80s for being gay. But despite that I have always loved hairy masculine men and so have emulated them. The upside is I can fly under the radar when necessary. The downside is that I've eschewed my feminine side, refused to have my chest shaved for charity, never dressed in drag, Know little of drag or trans society other than the radical faeries . It's another kind of chauvinism that I own and am not proud of.
