I played XI at the NA PS2 launch. I loved it & it had shaped my lifetime preference of what I expect an MMO to be. It ruined every other MMO, to be honest. I played at launch for about 6 months but regrettably left for WoW's launch. After that I dabbled in the Nasomi private server for a few months in 16' and Eden in 20', eachch for a few months, both fun but nothing like HorzionXI. I dropped Embers Adrift, though I still pay the sub to support the devs for taking the courage to make a classically styled MMO. I have now spent 50+ hours in the past 7 days HorizonXI since launch due to vacation/holiday time off and planning, This has given me ALL the feels & enjoyment of the original launch. The hype & tons of new players, new economy, and the HD textures have really made my enjoyment of this game through the roof. Everyone being broke, walking around looking like scrubs, zones packed to the brim with players standing at zones lines seeking parties, & everyone looking to party for all sorts of acheivements/quests is something I haven't seen since 03'. Havent had this much fun in an MMO in almost 2 decades, Classic WoW was a close second, but nothing like this.

I’m super happy for everyone who wanted this. However, I am curious what is it about the massive time sink that XI was in the past and to some degree still is now that people love so much? I remember struggling to find time to do most of the endgame content. That plus fighting over NMs that spawned every few days and mostly during JP time or during the day when most people with day jobs can’t attend and then whenever you could make one there was a years long list of people who need abcd drops that may or may not even drop. It was stuff like this that I personally found not so fun. So again my question to y’all is what is it about all this (imo) masochistic content that y’all like so much? Is it just fighting stuff with friends and not really about progression or what is it people enjoy most about this time that from what I remember did not in anyway respect your time?

It was never about the time sink. Yes it was absolutly awful and because I played for so long I eventually made it to endgame but it was a chore. All that you mentioned is absolutley true but because it took so long you endded getting close to people you played with. I missed that and with the changes in this new server I'm curious what it will be like. Not to mention the utter chaos its gonna be at launch. The experience and starting on launch day is something no one outside of Japan really knows. I'm curious to see it. Thanks for watching and for the comment. 👍

There usually isn't a ground in between a game like XI and games that hand you wins and allow every other player to easily acquire the gear you have. I play xiv and don't feel engaged in the endgame content because it is simply the same content on a harder setting. XI won so many hearts because of how it was structured, much as how many did with WoW classic. It's simple- if you cannot play the game, don't. I see a good measure of players who complain about time sapping variations of Mmo's and many find the time to stand in town RPing for hours on end. Playing XI gave me memories and sentiments I won't forget. Like treading through Zvahl, palms sweating in wait to be pounced upon by mobs or falling to an area with mobs that would 1 shot you. You simply don't receive such feelings when the game itself isn't daunting, down to simple travel and coming across even leveled targets. I haven't had a PC in years, but when I do build one once again, I'll certainly finish the XI storyline since I left post ToAU. All that said, I'm not sure if I'd enjoy returning to the '75' experience if there is no longer progression or thought of new expansions being released in the future. If a developer remade XI proper like, I wouldn't hesitate to drop whatever I was playing and invest time back into it.

@@crystaladmin2632 I Can see that. I just remember being frustrated because I wanted to do end-game content but it never seemed to fall on times when I could play. Also I wouldn’t water down 14 end-game that much though. Yea it’s essentially the same mechanics but turned up with different timings and then there is optimization on top of that. Oh and then let’s not forget Ultimate content 😄😄. I say that to say this I get the threat of open world can be exciting and I do recall liking general leveling in XI but when it came to end-game not so much. That’s why I asked though. Once the leveling is done and you are doing end-game what keeps people playing? One person said the people they play with which is cool. Is that something other people emulate or are there other reasons? I would love to know.

It’s really not about the progression. You can do it at whatever pace, especially since this is free. It’s about the adventure that this game gives that is so much better than any other game ever made

I have mix feeling about it. On 1 hand. I'm excited about a new server launch with progression and more job balancing!!! On other hand I doubt they will add a crystal grid and crypto currency.

I too, at first, had mixed feelings about it. But with all the hype and how things have been presented by the team I'm ready to take the plunge and see what happens. On your second point... I don't think those things will be added. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 👍

@@abeatplay9020 going to need something to keep end game exciting and a reason to prestige. Or else all the low lvl zone will become disbanded. Also they need new players and crypto currency the only way to bring in new players.

@@joshuaa.kennedy8837 there’s over 6,000 in the discord. So, there’s roughly 6,000 new players who will be leveling several other jobs keeping starting areas active for awhile to come. I can’t remember a server I ever played on that pushed 6,000 player. Now I understand not all 6,000 will be playing and especially not all at the same time but empty starting areas won’t be an issue for awhile. There is nothing era about the crystal grid teleport system. The majority of players have no desire to have the teleport crystal capability. I have no idea what you’re talking about crypto as the game has absolutely nothing to do with crypto nor should have any form of bit mining attached to it. They have also said there will be expansions being implemented at later dates. This will likely draw new players, players that won’t be drawn to the game simply by word of mouth.

That I'm not sure but you can download the launcher in a few days that is self contained and wont interfere with retail or other servers. Check their discord they ould know better than I. Thanks for the comment and for watching.

I want to play it, I love the classic MMORPGs but honestly the UI just keeps putting me off and I don't know if they can change that.

Sadly they can't. There are mods/skins of course that can change things but the core system won't be altered. thanks for watchng and for the comment.
