Discussion on Hummer H3 Fuel Economy

Thank you for all the valuable information on the H3 Hummer. I picked up about year ago, a 2009 H3 with the LS 5.3 and its the Adventure series out of Florida. I love the vehicle, it is awesome in the mountains.

I just bought an 2007 h3 Hummer and it ran great for a while 3000 m later an I am starting to have issues, it started mis firing real bad and felt like it wanted to throw I kept getting codes for cylinder 1 so I decided to change all of the spark plugs and when I pulled the spark plug from cylinder one there was water inside I cleaned it out and replace all spark plugs and all cylinders but only replace one coil pack just for cylinder 1 ran fine for 2 weeks and it is back acting horrible with a shaking idol and drive along with major misfire my buddy says that it is a chain reaction because I didn't change the other packs but I'm afraid to open it up because I have a feeling there's water in cylinder one again because it is throwing the same along with blinking engine please help I really love this truck!

Sounds like you really enjoy your H3! I really like them, too. Sometimes water fills into the spark plug hole either from rain or washing the vehicle. I would try a head gasket test kit: amzn.to/3xzuQc9 . This will tell you if exhaust gasses are getting into your coolant (water) and if so, water would also likely be getting into your cylinder. What did the cylinder 1 spark plug look like compared to the other plugs? I do not think the issue is due to not replacing all the coil packs. If the coil packs are good, they are good. There is no reason to replace functioning parts. I would also suggest trying a compression test and compression leak down test. I know it has been a while since you first commented. Have you sorted out the issue yet? If so, what was the culprit?

Yes I did I had to seal the coil pack after replacing again plus spark plug and I also sealed the hood louver so far no issues with that but now I am getting a oil light on every time I stop, it has happened before then I had an oil change adding Lucas to thicken and it stopped a month 1/2 later it's back at it any thoughts?

@Jimhawking5 there is an VVT oil solenoid I've heard that can cause similar issues. It might be worth looking into on the forums.

@@GundamChunksounds like it’s the oil pressure sensor, I have an 05 Colorado and did the exact same thing, oil light comes on when slowing and coming to a complete stop then turns off as soon as I gas it. Part is inexpensive, also buy some electrical contact cleaner, and spray the connector from the vehicle going into the sensor. Alot of times the sensor starts doing that because of water and or oil got into the housing.

Hey man first awesome videos , just did my fuel pump following one of your videos 👍. Any chance you know anything about BCM fixes ? Dealership says i need a new one (blinker won't work or stop lamp driver side) but they also say they can't get it since it's discontinued. Any tips or thoughts on what to do ? I appreciate your kind words and am glad you were able to swap out your fuel pump. I imagine you might have some luck finding a BCM online. I would be sure there aren't any wiring issues prior to replacing the BCM. Maybe you could order and supply the shop with the BCM or they might even come pre-programmed. What year and engine is in your H3?

Ayeee H3 Humper, I have a question about my h3 and I’m only asking you because well obviously your the only one I know who knows alot about these Hummers lol. Just today I started my hummer and this code “traction system failed, error, check tires, abs” showed up on my ignition and the ignition lights and radio aren’t working and I just got a new battery on Tuesday so I’m like wtf??

And the mechanics at my job checked everything out and they seen nothing wrong with it and they checked all the relays and fuses and I’m just like wtf??

Dang! Sorry you're experiencing that. Check and refresh (sand and resecure) all ground connections. There is a ground cable between the engine and frame on the driver's side. It was loose on my H3 and caused some similar issues. How long have you owned your H3 and what recent work has been done to it? Also, what was the cause for a new battery?
