@@maticsorn2784 The H2 isn’t necessary unreliable, but it’s not not the MOST reliable either, that goes for most American cars. I used to have a H3 Chevrolet Silverado which had the 6.0 Vortec engine in the H3 and a whole bunch of other GM vehicles. I never had any major issues even at 300,000miles+. It’s a really dependable motor. Obviously it’s not going to be on par with something form Toyota or Honda but still reliable nonetheless. I have to ask though why an H2, considering their are better off-road trucks from other companies. Edit: I don’t know much about the H3 but I’d expect the same reliability. You’d have to do some digging.

I am a General Motors chassis engineer and had the privilege to work on the Hummer H3 program. I would like to make a few corrections to your statements in this video about the Hummer H3. 1. Contrary to your statement about the Hummer H3 sharing the same chassis and powertrain as the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, the Hummer H3 shared very few chassis components with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. Similarities between the H3 and Colorado/canyon are that both were assembled at the GM Shreveport (Louisiana) facility on the same assembly line and both are body-on-frame trucks which offered the I5 engine and 4L60 automatic transmission. However, there are a lot of differences. The frame on the H3 was about 3” wider than the Colorado/Canyon, I believe the Aisen AR5 5-speed manual transmission gearing is different between the H3 and Colorado/Canyon , the H3 used a unique transfer case, propshafts, front differential, halfshafts and rear axle when compared to the Colorado/Canyon, as well as unique front suspension, brakes and fuel system. 2. You mentioned the Hummer H3 did not have any towing capacity. In actually, the Hummer H3 when equipped with the I5 engine & automatic transmission had a towing capacity of 4500lbs and when equipped with the V8 engine & automatic transmission had a towing capacity of 6000lbs. I am glad you published this video on the Hummer H3, as it is a great vehicle which was often overlooked. These trucks deliver a very macho driving experience and perform very well off-road. I wish the Hummer brand had survived!

@@98triffid GM had a family of of inline engines (I4/I5/I6) used the Colorado/Canyon and Trailblazer/Envoy. These were basically the same engine design with cylinders added for more power. I was not involved in the initial scoping of the H3; I assume the I5 was deemed the proper power output for this size of vehicle. I am sure the I6 would have required an increase in the length of the front compartment to fit. In 2000, a 5.3L V8 was offered with the Alpha package.

@@lilyeastersmomAll of these are normal things. If you have an automatic transmission the piping of your transmission ultimately goes through the bottom of the radiator. There may be an intermediate oil cooler stage but the fluids enter here and they exit here

I have owned an H3 since December 2006. Realistically, I had the transmission rebuilt at 150K and other work done last year. I'm over 200K and I plan to drive this thing until it absolutely won't move! It still has mad off-road credibility and is instantly recognized on the road. I just bought a 2008 that only has 76,000 miles, and I absolutely LOVE it! At first, I did worry that it was a ridiculous purchase, but it is so much fun driving it! I was surprised at how excited people seem to be about the vehicle! I believe the prior owner was a Navy man who was out to sea a good bit of the time, hence the low mileage for a 10 year old vehicle. He clearly loved it and took excellent care of it! Mine has the cloth seats (which I think held up so much better than the leather ones I have seen in other H3s) and the rear and passenger seats look like no one ever sat in them. My father is going to get me additional mirrors that attach to the side mirrors to address the visibility problem! I am a 40-something mother who traded in her 12 year old Toyota Sienna Minivan and am thoroughly enjoying bopping around in this tank! The sunroof really is huge, and you feel like you are in a convertible with it fully open and the windows down! Thanks to Hoovies for the backup!

Back in 2007, my wife and I flew out to Denver so I could go to reminisce of my 2.5 years at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs area back in 1973-1976 while in the U. S. Army. Our Plan was to rent a Jeep, then take a driving tour of CO, Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse, Devils Tower, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole ect. We ended up renting a new (2,100 miles) very nice silver H3. This was in June and was a beautiful time of year. We were surprised at the comfort and mileage was no to bad at 16-20. In a place called Bear Creek Pass that takes you into Yellowstone from the interstate from the east, that ended up in a flash white out 12” of snow in the three hr drive! On a mountain pass winding up and down hill road mind you, that had all but us turning around! Yea we had the best vehicle for the trip! We got over the mountain to pull into an overlook rest area after 3 hours of slow careful driving. In the rest area was a couple in a rented minivan, that had pulled in due to the dangerous roads! After seeing them 1/3 of the way up the wheels in snow we pulled over to see if they were ok. They were fine as they were smart enough to fill their gas tank at the last gas station 40 miles ago. But we’re not going to make it down the mountain, never mind out of the rest area. While we were there the snow plows came by, but only out in the road! The driver asked if I could tow him out, I told him I would but had no rope or strap of any kind and neither did he. So I told him I had an idea. With my driving skills and all of us packed into the minivan to weight it down I was able to back it out of the spot an headed in a straight line out, then tried to drive it out, but only made it about thirty feet after going back and forth with the traction control shut off. So I Back it up far enough to back the H3 up to it and showed him what I had done by turning off the traction control and being able to start off in 2nd gear in the automatic, then told him to follow in our tracks out of the rest area that would only mean a small curve. But at the edge where the plows had passed three abreast there was a wall of snow as high as the hood on the H3! But at least it was powdery. I put it in 4 hi traction control off and gunned it in drive flooring the gas. We ended up both making it out! We both stopped at the nearest place just 5 miles down the mountain where there was NO SNOW! They were very grateful! They could have been there for a long time! Because of a tree line back at the rest area you could not see them from the road! They ended up following us to the next nice restaurant and bought us dinner! We still exchange Christmas cards!! On that trip we took another awesome road after we left Jackson, to find a place called Hells Half Acre, google it is out if this world! The movie Space Troopers was filmed there. We also drove up an over one hundred mile dirt road to the geological center of Wyoming to an interesting place called The Hole In The Wall, that’s a blind Canyon the western outlaws used to hang low in! In areas of that road, where the snow drifts covered the roads in areas with more than five feet of snow, we had to climb off the road and drive on prairie grass along the road where there was no more snow! There was a lot of mud too. We came up to a group on quad runner that could not believe we were out there! I remember them leaving and catching back up to them only to see the incredulous looks on their face when they seen us drive up on them again once. After that they went a different way cause we lost them. Then after another hour we got back to The interstate well over a hundred miles north of where we started on that back road. About 10 miles from the highway, while going up a fairly steep dirt mountain road in the last few miles a warning light came in telling us we were getting a FLAT!!! Oh crap I did not want to have to change a tire in the dirt! But we made it out to The interstate to a nice level asphalt road to change the tire with what luck would have it to be a good spare! So I’m here to tell you I have a fond 2,790 miles in 12 days adventure with an Hummer H3! That was great Off Road, serious Off Road and plenty of high speed Wyoming interstate travels.

It's always nice to hear something good about my truck. I also drive a 06 H3. Good shape besides some normal maintenance I now have to do with 160 thousand miles on it. Five years going strong. 16 city 20 at most 21highway. I've been from Florida to Oklahoma City and Texas. That's how it got 160 thousand. I got it with 62 thousand lol. It's very reliable and if you're handy. Very easy to fix aka do it yourself. Majority of the normal things that go bad. I'm going to keep this truck until wheels fall off or until parts become obsolete lol. It has saved my ass plenty of times. Off road is definitely SO MUCH FUN! It's my every day vehicle. Therefore I take very good care of it. Just recently bought new A/T tires. And have to get a new rear main seal. Again first real serious repair. It's definitely worth the buy in my opinion. One more thing. I've driven a Jeep before. H3 long distance is a better ride. Jeep was way to stiff and I was so uncomfortable. H3 on long trips. Make you look good, feel good, feel safe, and makes you feel like you can get through whatever life brings you. I live in Florida. Going through high waters during hurricane season is a beautiful thing. Just knowing you going to be alright if it floods. I truly believe. Those that hate hummer really never really gave it a chance. Alot of it is drivers issues. If you take care of it. It will take care of you. Atleast my hummer is definitely a reliable vehicle. Next vehicle second vehicle I'm thinking of getting the Toyata FJ .

I've had an H3 for 5 years and I love it. I don't ever plan on selling it. One clarification from your video, it has a towing capacity of 4,500 pounds and tows really well (I've never exceeded that limit). I pulled a trailer weighing around 2 or 3 thousand pounds from Los Angeles to Pensacola Florida, and it had no problems at all, and I got around 15 to 16 mpg the entire way. I went slow because the trailer sucked (around 60 mph), going faster would have seen different mpg results. Obviously you're not going to use it for heavy duty towing, but no one expects a mid-size suv to do that anyway. All around it's been a great vehicle. I've had 3 jeep wranglers, and the H3 is far better. Honestly the jeeps are more fun, but the H3 is a better overall vehicle.

I owned a fully loaded Hummer H3, it was my first vehicle when I turned 16, I loved the shit out of that thing, never had any problems with it, people thought I had payed 10 times what I actually did, and you always got some minivan driving dads attention because he was jealous, plus I never had to worry about a new one coming out, I miss that thing, I sold it to a friend who still has it and there still hasn't been any problems. I've lost count of how many people I have almost cut over on though due to the visibility.....it sucks.

Love my H3T! Wish I could've afforded getting the Alpha back then, but gas prices were ridiculous! The only issue with the H3/H3Ts are those annoying rattling noises that none of the dealerships could figure out and would simply dismiss as being "normal H3 noise". I think one day I'll add the H2 SUT to my collection since I plan on keeping my H3T forever. Love the styling of these two trucks!

Off road a beast. Making repairs. Easy if you're handy. Only go to professionals if I don't have tools to fix. Otherwise majority you can do yourself. They made it very do it yourself friendly.

I am still operating my 2007 H3 in the remote north and it often operates, looks and sounds better than most new trucks that roll up here after 6 months. New vehicles are so cheaply built! I would upgrade to a Colorado ZR2 Diesel but my wife loves it too much because of its reliability, fit and comfort, so I keep on using it. Wonder how many more years I will get out of it! I can pretty much repair anything on it with ease as parts are easy to get. I think I will install a huge led light bar to get it to the next level. H3 Owner.

I'm the very happy 2nd owner of an 09 H3 configured with the adventure package and manual transmission (very rare combo) so it has the 4:1 transfer case (69:1 crawl ratio), front and rear lockers, and iron front diff (instead of aluminium like previous years). I've fitted it with Schwartzy skid plates and rock sliders, and 35" STT Pro tires. It'll go anywhere a similarly configured rubicon can go, while handling better and running quieter on the highway, and looking good doing it.

The time bomb was the 5cyl's automatic transmission cooler shared space with the radiator, often the coolant and transmission fluid got cross contaminated and the best you could hope for was a ruined trans. Get one before this happens, separate the two cooling systems, while upgrading each, and you've got yourself a 200k mile vehicle (in stock form).

I actually own one...2006 automatic but it has the leather interior..it has much more towing capacity than the jeep wrangler and it feels a lot more sturdy..we tow a 24 foot rv with it and not a problem!

I owned an H3 Alpha (the V8 version mentioned in the video). I bought it new, with huge incentives. It was a great off road vehicle. Just the right size, and more capable than most. It was also surprisingly quick, and very comfortable on long road trips. I honestly regret trading it. One of the best vehicles I've ever owned.

My dad has the illusive Isuzu i-350 which is actually the original framework for the Chevy Colorado and GMC canyon. It was created for developing countries like Vietnam. That inline 5 cylinder is bulletproof. Not too many in the states with the Isuzu badging. I hope he never gets rid of it. :)

@@princesunny4090 They say the 2006 are the worst years to buy but I just bought a 2006 and I love mine. The 2007s and higher would be the ones to look for, but if you find a low mileage well maintained one it should be ok. The gas mileage is terrible I get like 10 miles a gallon but I don't mind. If you do your research and find one with a great carfax, you'll be happy. The ones people like the most are the Alpha models and the H3T trucks.

I own the 08 Alpha H3, off road package - locking diffs. you get use to the visibility problem, really not that bad. I love it, this thing can go literally anywhere, rock climbing in 2 feet of snow, no problem.

My parents purchased a brand new Hummer H3 in 2006. came with the standard 5cyl automatic. It actually get descent mileage compared to my large F350 dually about 18mpg. The thing is a straight up beast off road and we take it out to the desert all the time when we bring our RV and four wheelers. It can easily tow a 16ft trailer loaded up with 4 wheelers at about 5,000lbs and handles soft sand with ease. We still own it to this day with minor repairs needed other than a new radiator and hoses. It is finally coming up on 100,000 miles and we will see how much longer it lasts.

I'm considering buying one tomorrow! An 07 with 130k. In today's market there's not many affordable options for mid size suvs. I just sold my 99 jeep xj because I wanted something more comfortable, and the jeep was starting to rust. And when it starts rusting, it doesn't stop without major restoration work. I think the h3's are interesting! I do some light offroading but mainly I need an suv just for moving house project stuff from home depot, my hitch carrier for snowblowers (i repair and sell them on the side), and cargo carrying for work. I work in IT and am always delivering printers, server cabinets, etc. It's' getting ridiculous trying to fit all that stuff in my 1987 mercedes 300d.

The under powered 5cylinder can be fixed by getting an H3 with it's optional 5.3 vortec V8 engine which makes it pretty darn fast and it's known for being very reliable, not to mention the satisfaction of the throty V8 exhaust rumble.

I just traded for a 2008 H3 which has / 222 thousand miles on it. It doesn't have a leak of oil or anything else anywhere on it and I love it. I'm six foot two it's the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven I like the way it handles I have no complaints I'm going to restore it completely and when the engine goes I'm going to drop a crate engine in it

Last time we had a major blizzard in Chicagoland, everyone at my complex got up the next day to find their vehicles buried up over the doors (due to deep and blowing snow). Everything was at a standstill and I saw all my neighbors frantically trying to dig their vehicles out. None of which would even move an inch and that included several 4X4's. I walked down, waded thru the snow, jumped in my H3 and backed out of my spot, like it was a summer day. My neighbor had begun taking video so he could post it on the internet and laugh at my attempt. But, to his surprise, my H3 had no problem getting out of the snow hole it was in. He then posted the video on the internet with a different narrative. Others, not to be outdone, jumped in their SUV's and attempted the same thing. Not one could move more than 6 inches. Since I purchased it late 2008, I've have little trouble, replaced the brakes one time and it's served me quite well. However, it's now burning too much oil, or I have a leak somewhere. Of course, it is 10 years old. It can't stay pristine forever. Of the vehicles I've had, it is the best overall, aside from gas mileage, followed by a Camaro and an Acura Integra (yeah, not really a man's car). The worst vehicles I've ever owned were Dodge's, which, as soon as the warranty ran out began costing tons of money in repairs. After replacing the transmission in a Caravan that was only 4 years old, I vowed never to buy another Dodge. I'm not the type to claim one brand over another in some irrational mental delusion, but Dodge most certainly is an automobile I am not fond of. By the way, I didn't buy my H3 because of how it looked, although I do like that aspect. I bought it to handle all sorts of terrain, form highway to mountain logging/lease roads and even going off into the bush. I've driven it thru deep snow of course and water that would stall out most cars, as well as mud bogs and hill climbs. It's never failed any test. I have never been afraid to get it dirty and those who buy such a vehicle and then never take it anywhere but nicely paved roads where it's always clean and pretty...well, I don't see the logic.

D T I own 2 Hummers and a jeep up here in northern 🇨🇦 and I'm not sure why the hate... in the logging Bush camp my Hummers are less fuel hungry than the jacked Fords/Rams .. also I've own my H1 and H2 Hummer since new... Never left me stranded ,never had major break downs... My Jeep Rubicon has had tranny & rear end replaced already..left me stranded in the Bush more than one time.. I've left both Hummers in the camp(near ChurchHill 🇨🇦) for 6 months in -40c when I got hurt and was airlifted out.. I came back and both Hummers fired right up and they pulled out the tractor and my Jeep that wouldn't start( mice chewed through the wires) So not sure why everyone bitches about the Hummers..when you live and work in northern 🇨🇦they've never let me down in 12 years of ownership Cheers from Moosnee,Ontario

We are on our third hummer h3 and now have the alpha... we absolutely love it!!! I wish the H4 had come out. People got the same mpg in their Toyota Sequoia as the h2. It was all propaganda. We routinely got up to 20mpg in our h3 and even up to 18 with the v8. I am hoping that they will bring it back some day.

It's in my opinion worth it. Bought mine with 62 thousand miles now with 160 lol. Off road snow floods and it's my personal travel vehicle as well. Very reliable and long distance wise. Very comfortable rides so damn smooth! Take care of it and it will take care of you. I love mine fully loaded heated seats but no sun roof 😢😢. But yeah very comfortable ride.

@@johnathoncastro yes keep in mind every vehicle has issues. Some more than others. So don't wait for shit to break before replacing parts. It's ALREADY old. I have a 06. So little by little start replace all old parts. I started with replacing all fluids over time. It's expensive lol. I've replace radiator and fan clutch as well as water pump. All once I took off. You can tell it was on its way out anyways being so old. Next month I'm doing rear main seal and upper head gasket. I've already replaced ignition coils and plugs. Most expensive fix was the transfer case. It has a plastic fork that goes bad. Check the hummer forum. I didn't catch it in time so I spent 800 to fix and replace with a aluminum fork. My co worker has same truck with 300 thousand miles and it runs better than mine. He told me what he did. Which was what I told you. Mine has 160 thousand. When I bought it. It has 64 thousand.

The pillars are unique, but the fact that they are straight up and down and set well forward, makes it easier to see than other vehicles with side air bags and a highly sloped windshield. I love my 2008 H3 Alpha with the off road package.

My 2006 H3 has 354,000 miles on it, I have replace many parts, but it just keeps on going, I love it. Had it off road, hauled deer, pulled trailers, I have a 5 Speed Manual. I suspect I will have to have the transfer case chain replaced soon, and at 400,000 miles I may replace the engine, as it has definitely earned a retirement.

RichieT5 The Volvo five cylinders are great engines. I have a V50 T5 M66 and I love it. I, like you, had never heard of the GM five cylinder, so i did a little research. They are 3.7 liters, far bigger than the Volvo 2.4's and 2.5 turbos. The GM 5 is also known to have problems, including a few instances of spun bearings.

As an owner of a hummer H3 2007 which did not have the rearview camera, The hummer H3 outperforms any jeep to date. One thing you forgot to mention which is huge to all hummer owners is the turning radius is SICK!! it is amazing to watch the sharp turns accurate precision getting into the most peculiar parking spots and every guy is standing in all and envy of this vehicle that you own. The hammer only has two negatives and that is it the sunroof Which clog constantly and leaked. A bigger rear window wiper and third side rear view mirrors heated and defogger.
