Very little of a Prophets job both in the Old Testament and within the Church is to predict the future, most of their work has to do with the present. I watched a video from an ancient near eastern scholar by the name of David Falk and he put it like this: “Most of a prophet’s job is to declare the present”.

The burden of proof allocations are atrocious with these guys. Nice job, Travis. Looking forward to part 3.

They keep asking Travis to prove negatives… logic is not strong with them.

Thank you for showing us how we need the Book of Mormon.

Travis, exemplifying the calling to be a “fisher of men”, repeatedly casts his net to only pull up red herrings

😂 man he's persistent in teaching us what a snag looks like and how to deal with one so we can cut the line and string a new hook and keep on fishing.

I will spare everyone the torture of listening to Bayo seeking proof of a negative. Just start the video at 46:01.

But Alma said unto him: Thou hast had signs enough; will ye tempt your God? Will ye say, Show unto me a sign, when ye have the testimony of all these thy brethren, and also all the holy prophets? The scriptures are laid before thee, yea, and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator. - Alma 30:44 I would argue that the Book of Mormon says believing in God is a logical conclusion backed with faith

Yes, but the argument Travis is making is that, ultimately, our beliefs are based on the evidence we receive and how we interpret it to mean one thing or another. Travis isn’t denying the existence of God or the presence of evidence. He’s trying to help them see that they have come to their faith because God allowed them access to information, moved them through revelation, and that they made a choice to accept God's existence. This is the foundation of all faith. If we can’t start there, we end up making larger assumptions, like Sola Scriptura. If they understand that God reveals truth to them, then they can begin to understand that truth exists outside of the Bible, and that the Bible itself is not the ultimate "Truth." The ultimate truth comes from God.

Keep in mind that 'all the holy prophets' included both the book of Mormon prophets and scriptures that we don't have- that evidently were far more explicit about who the Messiah would be than the books of the bible we now have. He is listing a bunch of evidences or data that are sign enough for a faithful person - as Travis indicates you can choose to believe/ experiment on the word, rather than demand further evidence

ouch.. that hurt there at the end. It's hard to think purely logically for some. They misunderstood your argument completely. I wonder if there is a better way to let them know that you understand what they are saying.. and agree with them.. just so they can let go of that argument. ( which is a miss understanding of what you are trying to argue). Then They may be more open to understanding what you are trying to tell them. Best Travis.. good luck.

Agree! They are missing it completely, but until they can think logically moving on with their fallacies would be just as unproductive. Wow this would tough to navigate for sure. Excellent Travis..

How little faith that is required to be a Christian is mind blowing to me. Didn’t Jesus reprimand “oh ye of little faith”.

Why do people criticize these two? They’re intelligent followers of Christ and most likely would inherit any kingdom offered to them and accept any lds doctrine once it was clearly revealed to them. Even after death… at least that’s what I was taught in church.
