I watched it. I love it. My wife loves it. The show is fantastic. What is the deal with all of this negativity towards this show? Is because people hate Bezos ?

Agreed and same. The show is great. Does it have faults? Of course, but its still a great show and I am really missing watching a new episode of ROP today. People like Helzo just think hating on something makes them cool and edgy. They think being a critic makes them an expert because to think something good is bad must mean you are seeing something others are not. To me, people like Helzo come across as miserable people

Actually i was a bit hesitant on the first season but the second season was good. I do understand how they took lots of writing liberties because of the need to compress lots details in a span of 3000 years to just several episode. Even S. Jackson took some creative liberties as well. My take on this is, if you want to have tolkiens perspective then you are pretty much welcome to read all his books but on the other hand, if you just need to enjoy a compressed interpretation of tolkiens work thru cinema/videos then the movies and series os the way to go.

The last straw was seeing Arondir get stabbed and then episode 8 just walks it off.. and the Gandalf thing made me sick to my stomach literally. I could have written a better epic journey when I was 12. Literally.. these writers and editors don’t know what the fuck they are doing.

The Balrog is an instrument in ending Durin the elders arc..which was all about showing the corruptive side of the rings. And he was redeemed by his sacrifice, a more powerful story than just "hmmm no, dwarves are incorruptible"

@@lm7338 That would be cool, if the lore didn't specifically describe thst the dwarves would awaken the Balrog in the third age, thus making it completely pointless. If nothing else, if this scene was even remotely considered canonical, it would make the dwarves the dumbest race of all, because there were witnesses to what happened and the story would be known throughout the future generations. All of this is without mentioning that it would take A LOT more than a dwarf with an axe to even damage a Balrog.

@@DiscussThing It doesn't need to follow the book, because then it would be just that.. the book. We know it wouldn't work. So you gotta see it for what it is, adaptation. One can look at it as fanfic, as an in universe legend or whatever. As for the last statement.. Possibly that he did it out of shame /to preserve honor after realizing he had been blinded by the ring. Along with thinking it might buy his son time to survive ( it seemed to have buried it or at least closed it off).

@@lm7338 P's trilogy didn't follow the book to the letter, however it was following the general story, important events and the progression faithfully. There's a difference between minor changes within the main storyline and changing the written lore altogether. As for why he did it and if the Balrog is buried, it still doesn't account for the knowledge that the Balrog exists and why he was uncovered (dug too greedily and too deeply). Still, if done better, and without LOTR it could have been a decent series and if there are people who like it, good for them.

@@DiscussThing And that's the thing, there is no set "story" yet. The lore has also been warped and twisted in LOTR, so holding ROP to both standards is impossible.

@@GmZorZ not true. The lore is set, detailed and with dates, key events, continuity and so on. Like I said previously - there is a difference between changing minor things that do not have an effect on the overall story, its progression, continuity and outcome, like the Trilogy, and changing the story altogether, making up protagonists, moving key events in time, changing continuity and character background, like RoP.

All the hate to rings of power is mob mentality. It's a decent series. I love Tolkien more than most and I bet he would approve of no adaptation. The star wars sequel trilogy was a crime. I don't know why I don't feel this way about this show.

@@jonpate6129 I truly don't think Tolkien would agree, as it is goes wholly against what he said regarding adaptations. I would agree, that it can be watchable, if it was tinkered with and The Lord Of The Rings name was taken out of it. In my reviews I tried really hard to stay away from the lore comparisons, focusing as much as I can on what the series is on its own, and to be honest it's not good. Pacing, dialogue, character development - they are truly lacking.

It's okay for you to enjoy it, I'm happy you did. But people are also allowed to have critical opinions of it. But IMO fans deserved a better series than this. Tolkien's work deserved a better adaption than this. If we push for better media, art benefits from that. It all felt like a shameless corporate cash grab by people who did not understand or respect fantasy as a genre. Not stemming from a place of creativity or passion for the material.
