To be fair, all the deadlift freaks in Strongman don't do many variants of the deadlift. Mitch, Graham Hicks, and Thor are all surprisingly simple in their approach. Thor might do deficits, Hicks might do deficits, leg presses, or maybe concentric pauses, and Mitch pretty much only does normal deadlift and back-downs. I think Brian Shaw is the one to employ a fair bit of variance when he was competing, like bands, chains, and deficits.

I like Sam Shethar's approach of not just going for things that look like a deadlift as S-tier, and things that look less like it in a lower tier. Instead he also takes into account what exercise slot they take. For example, a back extension is S-tier because you can do it at a later point in the workout

@bad71able4 күн бұрын
Honestly, amongst the biggest deadlifting strongman competitors, leg press really appears to be one of the favorite accessory exercises. Eddie Hall, Brian Shaw, Graham Hicks, Hafthor, Mitchell- they all lean heavily into the leg press as their primary leg power developing accessory when peaking for a big deadlift.

Eric you should give snatch grip deadlifts a try. I see better carryover compared to deficit deadlifts. It will destroy your upper back if you go heavy. It’s the same as a deficit deadlift, just you don’t have to stand on a block. Huge carryover to conventional deadlifts.
