Disidentification and disidentifying is the act of removing yourself from your subjective reality and viewing your life and interactions from an objective sphere. This is inherently the practice of non attachment. How to disidentify lies in the letting go of ones ego and detaching from the self. This is easier said than done and contains some spiritual traps as well.

I was identified with pain for most of my 56 years. Dis-identifying with it was the first step of the healing process. It`s not like I`m "pain free". I have karmic conditions that bring physical pain to this vehicle. But when I don`t grab at the thought "I`m in pain" it goes along on it`s merry way & I barely notice it. Teal helped me learn that this was the problem. This is way better than being addicted to morphine!! Which I was for a few years. I also had to dis-identify with THAT! The feeling of letting these things go is so Beautiful that I`m grateful I have so many to let go of!

humanyoda That is the next step as i see it. I had to accept the pain before I could drop the karma, though. Having built this ego from trauma after trauma for all these years it may take a little while to unravel all of it. That`s why I was drawn to Teal....because it was obvious to me that she speaks from a place of Truth & much past trauma. She inspires me in this way. For now I am just having some time of Joy & Bliss which I rarely experienced before. Taking a breather as it were. Lol

We're so attached to this earthly experience that it becomes so real to us! After watching this video, I thought to myself "Stop taking yourself so seriously" and watch from my spirit what's going on in this bodily vessel and the experiences it brings. It's like looking at myself in a car and caring less about it to let it crash because I already know what I am.

@@kentyiluminada7676 I guess you must find what you're trying to avoid. Since it's a coping mechanism. (if my theory is exact) When did derealization start? What happened at that moment in your life? Teal made a video about coping mechanism. I don't know if I had derealization, but I remember 1/2 years ago I felt weird I felt like I didn't live in this world and that was a moment in my life that I felt a lot of shame and I wasn't even aware of it. At that moment in my life I was trying to avoid anxiety and shame. But my theory might be wrong because I heard that you can have derealization after taking drugs. So maybe it's chemical. But depression is chemical and you can get out of it without medication (I got out of depression without medication).

Practicing being loving & kind everyday, to loved ones, strangers & acquaintances even in hectic, stressful times. Yet can't let go of regrets even those from childhood. I push people away cause I think I'll hurt them & wonder why they still care or love me. I meditate & will watch this again, cause I hope it will help me to let the past go. You have to understand that you push people away, and exhibit "negative" behavior because it is your subconscious' way of protecting you. Most likely because you have been hurt. I hope you can see that you are not a bad person and shaming yourself is unnecessary, and if anything proves that you are in fact a good person. But either way it is not useful. I have experienced the same, or similar, emotions and behaviors. I found that I am the Identified Patient in my family.. and my behavior was in reaction to being ill treated growing up. Knowing that, now I can heal. I hope you can find the answers for your own healing.

absolutely awesome, Teal, absolutely awesome...This video validates my experience after I viewed the last video about 'The Victor Trap'...I was identifying with not being a victim, even though I felt victimized by some people that were around me, and so I was somewhat in a 'hold' emotionally, an emotional tug of war, feeling victimized inside, but refusing to identify with it, and once I understood what I was doing from 'The Victor Trap' video, so much has released around that issue...I simply allowed myself to feel victimized, and acknowledge it, and be okay with the feeling, accept the feeling, be with the feeling...now in seeing this video about dis-identification, I understand and realize that I've completely dis-identified with being a victim and being a victor, and am simply able to be me, as me, and it feels.....good, wonderful, real, and 'lighter'...

I just want to say that I feel better about myself and about life in general thanks to you and your videos, teal. I have been struggling time and time again in life and I am gaining much more understanding, confidence, and reassurance from your knowledge especially because of what you say and how you say it. Which resonate with me as truth and that validate my experiences of how I have been feeling about things such as "the darkness", "demons", and feelings that I have experienced in my lifetime and their meanings, the opportunities that they are for growth and inner peace, or bliss. I genuinely feel like growth and expansion are possible and that I am connecting more and more dots which are allowing me to blossom further and further at my the rate that is meant for me. Things are feeling whole again. And again, I thank you. 😊🌸

Thanks a million for another amazing video, Teal. Here are a few important takeaways that I noted: ➤ Recognize and write down all the things that you are attached to. 1) A good way to find all the things that you are attached to is to look at all the things that you identify as "mine". For eg - My friends. 2) Also, look at all the things that you would fill in the blanks with when you say: I am _______________ Eg - I am sexy/ I am angry. 3) Try to identify the thoughts & beliefs you are attached to. For eg - Money doesn't grow on trees. 4) Try to recognize the emotions that you're identified with. Emotions that you're identified with are the ones that are chronic. They come up more often. They might even set the emotional atmosphere of the totality of your life. For eg - disappointment. 5) Try to recognize the aspects of your body that you are identified with. For eg - If you see yourself as fat, you are identified with being fat. Anything you identify with will cause a strong reaction within you. ➤ Become aware of what you are identified with the minute those things arise or cause a reaction within us. 1) Use strong emotions like an alarm or meditation bell that alarm you to the fact that your direct undivided attention & presence is required in this moment. There is something you must recognize/become aware of. 2) When a strong emotion arises, face it within yourself instead of reacting to it or reacting in a way to try to get away from it. When you feel it, use it as a reminder that this feeling is the Emotional body becoming activated like an electric fence or charged, as in it's not "me". It is not the emotion itself causing the suffering you feel. It is the fact that you identify with it that is causing the pain you feel. 3) This is all it takes to disidentify with something. Don't try to stop caring how you feel. Don't try to change how you feel. Just recognize it and let it be there. Try to be fully present with that strong emotional reaction instead of reacting to it. This will help you notice what it is that triggered you and why it triggered you. 4) Practice observing the body as if it were an experience you are currently having rather than who you are.

Same here. I try to have as little as possible to do with my Mom..It used to hurt to become aware of that, but everytime I let her back in she ends up breaking my heart. I am disidentifying from her by changing my name, which is way prettier than what she came up with. It is a difficult and painful situation, but I know there is a Divine Eternal Mother, so it's all good.

Cheryl Shortridge saying you have '' karmic issues that bring pain to your vehicle'' as you put it is another belief you have that is identifying with pain again. If you want to be pain free you can totally do that, make the decision and then dont contradict it by saying pain is attracted to you or your body or vehicle or what have you. If you think you are unlucky, then you are, if you think you are lucky, then you are. Disregard this if it has no meaning to you. Love you

Excellent and beautifully worded ! At first my ego was identifying Teal as sort of a beautiful zombie emotionless hologram clone but then she smiled and inputed humor into her vocabulary and all her words took on another meaning with slightly human variations to where one could relate so I was able to disidentify the egos negative reaction or judgment of her delivery and my true self began to identify with her true self which began to feel exhilarating and something I thought not possible from first appearance of her. My true self hopes to meet another true self in human for just like her one day :-) The discussions would be fascinating !!!

In other words, all we need to do is identifying what we are not and then it follows that what is left is what you are. So much more simple then labelling everything. That is why I don't fall into the trap of labelling myself in terms of what I am but rather what I am not. I can tell you what I value (e.g. health, nature, my kids, integrity, etc..) but this sort of attachement is not what defines me as a whole. The only "threat" I find of significance is anything that threatens my peace of mind. That and gravity lol

Those ideas are so attached to me that I feel great fear if i let go. It feels like im naked around strangers if I were to strip them down. also seeing my pain as a person makes me feel compassion for that person, and waw what a wonderful idea to paint with.

Maybe we should look at ourselves both like being the sea and its waves? The sea is not transitional, it's consciousness and it's our essence. It's what we're made of and that's why we can relate to other conscious beings. The waves are transitional, they are aspirations, interests, values that we forged for ourselves etc. They are part of us too, except unlike consciousness, they change in time. You can't separate the sea from its waves, just like you can't separate consciousness from its aspirations, unique perspective, interests etc. Consciousness without a point of perspective, aspirations or what Teal often calls blueprint for life, would just be like a sentient camera, capturing moments of life and nothing more. It think it's very reductive. My take is that maybe, instead of only identifying with consciousness... (which would be sad because then everyone is the same, ergo no one is unique), we should recognize that the waves are also part of who we are, and that without us, they would not exist. They are a part that evolves with us and allows for uniqueness. I'm still figuring things out on my own, so I would appreciate any constructive input on this idea.

I cannot disidentify with my pain. I am trapped in my suffering. Nothing I do helps. There is no escape. I just want to die, but to do so would result in even worse circumstances. I am a prisoner of 3rd density reality. Tortured day in day out. From the moment I wake to the moment I sleep. No amount of logic can help one disidentify. The harder I try to disidentify, the harder my pain clings to me. Dead man walking.

You are awesome. I love the clarity to explain this content and I am so grateful for that. Unfortunately there are no many videos with this kind of content that explain this so clear and easy to understand like you. In my opinion this kind of imformation is so useful and necesary for our life. Thank you so much.

Wow, you're right. I have experienced this before. When the pain was so severe I, in a way, stepped out of myself and I saw myself and I felt nothing. I remember when I was 10 years old and I received the news that my dad had an accident and was fighting for his life in a hospital. In that moment I was in such shock, such extreme pain that all of a sudden I felt nothing and I saw myself and I saw he journey I'm about to experience. This also happened when my boyfriend of 3 years broke up with me. I collapsed to the ground and I saw myself sitting there on the ground. I saw what was happening to me. I saw all the emotions, all the pain, all the healing I am about to experience in the next year or so. In that moment I felt nothing. As if it didn't affect me, as if I'm already healed. I noticed how unaffected I feel and I thought it was one of my self defense mechanisms. I thought I was in denial. Well I don't think I really know what it was... I just recently discovered your videos and I have a lot to learn :)

To avoid confusion think it better to not use the word 'separate' in dis-identifying, as that may imply maybe creating a separate higher self of dis identity. The universe is connected so maybe put it as no-thing dissolve/disperse the attachment container shape, or disown what owns you.

At 11:24 Teal Swan seems to describe Borderline Personality Disorder: "We can even become identified with pain itself. Isn't that an interesting twist? Now this of, course of, the most painful conditions you can experience - is to be come identified with pain -, because the Ego will seek pain out, just to reinforce, it's own sense of self, it's own identity." Then following up at 11:44 seems to describe the dissociative symptoms of BPD: "But there is an interesting flip-side. People who are identified with pain often end up with so much pain, that in one fell-swoop, they end up disidentifying with themselvez completely. It is a form of Emotional Suicide."

Like the philosophy of the shaolin monk "One is not the body, the mind nor the emotions(psychology) but the spirit." That's why they don't deem or refer themselves as I because they know they are not the body thus they say one (self). E.g Western world " I am hungry" shaolin monk" one must feed the body." The Western world has taken away & forgotten our essence as the spirit. Blessings

It seems simple to think, but it actually so scary, many people would prefer to continue be in pain rather come to consciousness about the fact that they can make a change. I am trying but it's difficult especially since I have low self esteem. It's difficult to understand most of the time whether the thought is actually what I am thinking or is it because if what I think somebody else thinks about me.

What the difference between disidentification and disassociation disorder? Is it just that one is done consciously and the other is not?
@vnleao
@vnleao 5 жыл бұрын
Autumn Rose I know this is an old comment but the core differences I see are that dissociation as a psychological state comes from a place of resistance and ultimately an attempt to protect the “self” concept from a crisis by merely altering our perception of events whereas disidentification is not; true disidentification does not come from a place of resistance and is not about preserving the “self” concept through a change of perception, rather perception changes in response to changes in the definition of “self.”

I once had a dream where I saw all of my ambitions wrapped up into a ball of light. I tried to catch up to it... but it floated away faster than I could move. I tried to convince the ball that I was that budding pro soccer player, by saying, "But I AM that soccer player!" It kept floating away. I went down the list of all of the "things" I believed I was or had the potential to be. I got so worried that it would never come back. "But I AM!!!" was the only thing I could think of.... It wasn't "convinced"... It left I felt the suction of a man behind me. He was laughing. I could feel his pull I screamed out, "But I AM" I woke up That was about 20 years ago What Teal described in her video fills in a lot of the gaps Thank You Teal!!!

Wow, this deep, but great to know. Great to know that we don't have to suffer by repressing our thoughts/emotions! Yes, i am addicted to my pain, fear, anger..my emotions are on auto. you explain how to deal with our emotions so they do not resist leaving.. that's so fucking good to know! You are do awesome Teal! i have tried this a few times.. my ugly issue is my jealousy of my GF whom is so awesome! I had images of her talking to other men..even though I know she was a Major in the military, i know she has no choice to be around men all day everyday even sleep with them in the field or wherever, i still had images of her talking to men I felt a threat to. once i stopped adding crap to them, I allowed the thoughts and emotions to be with me, after several times of doing this the images no longer happen. i still get jealous but i do stay with the neg emotions and know its bullshit to think it's happening. i hope this makes sense to you :)

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. This cleared up a lot for me. This is very deep teaching. I can see how can be misinterpreted in a number of ways. I have no solution for clarifying this problem other than the analogy of attempting to teach etymology to someone just learning plot development. Different categories, hard to all put on one map until one realizes they are the map.
