No surprise at all that this was handled by Kari in such a gentle, loving, respectful, educational and serious manner. Beautiful that you allowed your girls to, or not to, participate at a level of their choosing. Perfect how Josh partnered with Kari, kept the ball rolling yet did not try to take control. Lots of respect for all of you guys. Ralph was lucky to have you, to his last day, and long after.
If it was handled properly it wouldnt have been posted at all.

Check your laws and what the funeral home will allow in advance. There are ways around “the rules” so you can have your final wish. I have heard of people using a hollowed cane to place ashes of a pet when the cemetery does not allow one to even be buried with pet ashes.

Thank you for making this video Kari. When I had to disinter one of my beloved pets in August this year because of a house move, there were no such videos of the process. I had no idea what to expect. It was less upsetting than I thought it would be and I am so glad I did it. The pet crematorium reassured me that what I was doing wasn't ghoulish and that they cremate previously interred pet remains all the time. Your video will help many people in future.

I had my Baby girl after 17 yrs cremated and was the best thing I could have ever done. O Conners funeral home in Pittsburgh Pa. were amazing!! They sent us her cremations in a beautiful thick frame with her ashes in with her picture on the front of the frame, A piece of her hair, a keychain, A personalized rainbow bridge print, remembrance cards with her picture, date she was born and the date she passed. (Just like the cards that you receive at a funeral home) Also her paw print with her name and personalized poem in another beautiful frame that match the frame with her cremations in. And her obituary. Just amazing! There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of her and tears poor down my face. I miss her soo very much it hurts! Just feel extremely broken without her. 😢💔 She went out with dignity and deserved to be acknowledged with the cremation service. I couldn't have asked for a better funeral home to take care of her. For that I am blessed. She will be forever in our hearts and sadly missed. My lil "go to gal" of 17yrs. 🙏

My furry friend - Jack was hit by a neighbors car 37 years ago. He was buried wrapped up in his baby blanket (he loved it), as well as his leash and a ball. I could look out our back window and see where he was. We buried him by a small creek that ran through our property beneath an old tree. Watching the video gave me another sense of watching a loving, caring, compassionate dignifying human being. We are planning to move in the future and currently have two dogs buried in the backyard. One is under concrete and the other is buried very deep in the ground. This is from 1990 and 2001 and they will remain with the house. With our latest dog we had more options. We lost her at 18 years old, and we did water cremation with her. She is in a beautiful urn and will go with us. Yes, this video was difficult to watch, but I think it answers many questions about what happens in these circumstances. Thank you Kari....

I wonder if he had been wrapped in linen if his fur would have disintegrated faster. I guess I thought there would be less after 4 years and that there would be no smell. Though you do live in Michigan with cooler seasons so maybe the process is affected by the weather. . I thought a natural burial leads to faster decomposition and that air and bugs would do the rest of the composting.

When my little Shit-zu goes out to do his business, he visits Teddy's grave and says hi. Both the Big Dog (Daisy) and little Leo was there for Teddy's funeral and watched me and a couple of neighbors dig the grave, so they knew what was going on. Kari, thanks for sharing this. For me it was a lot more emotional than I expected, as I just lost my dog of 16 years last month. Riley was my 3rd dog I've lost as an adult. Being single and without kids, my dogs have been my kids (my mom calls them her grand-dogs). 14 months ago, I lost Riley's brother Jacob. Prior to that Phoenix passed in 2009 at 14. All 3 of my dogs were cremated, and it was something I'd planned ahead as at the time I lived in downtown Atlanta and I knew I'd not live there forever, so I wanted to take Phoenix with me. He's in a beautiful urn with his name and sentimental words. Riley and Jacob are in wooden boxes , executives like you have Ralph in, except the plastic bag is inside a purple velvet bag with a ribbon draw string. I too was very curious and eventually looked at Phoenix's ashes. All my family plan on cremation as I wanted to know what the remains looked like before I have a parent pass. The only odd thing I found was that some of the fine pieces of pulverized bones have a bit of "faint color" to them... not all exactly the same color. I'm friends with my Vet, and she'd explained the process with me and I was comfortable with cremation, yet curious as well. She'd explained to me how respectful the pet cremation service is with the remains of our beloved pets, and a certificate and metal tag are returned with their ashes just like with humans. I hope you'll find that process as comforting as I did. Having my 3 boys "with me" gives me comfort. I can't imagine having to go through the same process your family did, but you all handled it so well and scientifically, even your cute daughters. I love your videos. They've made me more comfortable with the death and grieving process. I'm an emotional person, and I told my very I would be crying when we had to put them to sleep, and she told me she wouldn't expect anything else... and that she buys tissues in bulk for her clinic :) I was a bit embarrassed crying and letting my emotions flow, but she and her staff left the room and allowed my mom and brother and I stay in the room as long as we needed, before taking her next patient. I hope you and your family find the same comfort having Ralph "with you", as I've had with my three boys. ❤️ 🐾💙🐾❤️

Josh is so sweet to help. Kari, you know animals have souls and his soul is in heaven. It doesn't matter what happens to his remains. I'm sure he's thanking you for all the love you gave him while he was with you. ❤️❤️

I don't know how you could bear to look at your dog's remains. I would not be able to do it. He wasn't my dog, and I can barely stand to look. I totally agree with your decision to have his remains cremated. I am sorry you had to do such a difficult and heart-wrenching task.

Ralph looked like such a sweet Boy. Bless his heart. I'm sorry for your loss, I know it's been a few years but the loss is probably still felt. They enrich our lives so much while we have them. Run free sweet Ralphie.... Your legs are strong now and your spirit is free.

My husband is military. When our shih tzu Queenie died at 14 years of age we had her cremated. We new we would be moving so we did not bury her on our property. We have her little pink urn with us and even take her on our rv trips because she loved to travel with us.

Thanks for sharing this, I always wondered about this, it is a source of great sadness for me when I think of my parents dogs that are buried in their yard. I’m a little upset though that you took him apart, I would have put the entire blanket in the box 😢
@KaritheMortician2 жыл бұрын
You are welcome. There was too much dirt on the blankets and they don't like the blankets for cremation. We know more than most would about that part of it

So interesting actually thank you for posting it. I always been curious about how my cat or dog would look like. We will always love them but just like people who pass it just human nature to wonder what we would look like one day if we where buried. When I first saw is skull you can actually see his beautiful face. It made me feel sad for him but at least he will be with you always in a different form. May he rest in peace and hope he’s running around playing with his tennis balls. It was really a great video for teaching kids and adults.

Hi Kari I have had all of my dog's cremated at the pet crematorium and the cremated remains buried in the small garden still in the bags the remains came in just incase we ever moved we could dig up the remains easily. Hope you are well Kari and thank you for sharing your experience on video I'm sure a lot of people have wondered what their pet could look like after burial. Hi to josh and the girls. Lot's of love from Nancy in Scotland x ❤

We cremated our dogs too. One was 12 and the other was 17. My morbid sense of curiosity had me watching your video. Like Ralph, my Dakota was also a lab except she was yellow. Hope everything goes well for your family Kari.

My cat of 17 1/2 years passed in January of this year. I couldn't imagine not having her remains close and I know I won't be living where I am forever so I had her cremated. Her remains sit on a shelf in my living room next to her paw print ornament that the crematory made for me and right above a drawing I did of her as a kitten when I was in college. At some point I plan on adding her picture to the shelf but I haven't gotten one printed out yet and I don't want to move the one in my office. I wasn't expecting or prepared to say goodbye to her that day and have been devastated since. I ended up getting 2 new kitties to fill the emptiness of my home and to help fill a little bit of the void she left behind. They will never be her but they are my new world! I will always miss my first kitty but wouldn't give up these 2 for the world.
