Is it still good to run rabbit when you want to win, but no food gear spawned in the valley? What is the general gameplan? Visit a hoarder and hope for the best? I don't like skipping a doable region 1 lair if possible, the rewards are too good for snowballing.

It depends on what is avail. Its pretty trivial to pick up 4 food gear by the end of the run, and the speed is enough of a bonus even if you don't get it early enough to spam food for HP. But if there's scouting gear, or I'm running a big damage team for the blood, or i get a cultist trinket from the altar then i'd skip rabbit. But the other pets are almost never better even with synergy outside of very specific comps.

Hard agree, thanks for confirming my thought that rabbit is always pickable and going to be strong/broken even if you get the food gears on region 2+. Having 2 great gears in whiskey and gridle pushes it up even further in the broken list. I like your altar rules too so I only do it each roll once and only on the annoying torches: BB, Corpselight, Killer glow(more of an annoyance really, the altar rolls helps to ease it up.)

5:20 Awww. Face Randy's feeling guilty for using cheat items from mods. Jokes aside, it's nice to hear you admit it. I always found the "rabbit is cheating" argument annoying and dumb, similar to the Reddit idiots complaining about Elden Ring's DLC's difficulty while choosing not to use tools that could help.
