Vehicle dismount under fire drills are extremely fun. In today's environment I would highly recommend a convertible or topless vehicle if you are going to be operating mounted, so you can see those drones coming.

With up-armored and light-skinned/ non-armored domestic vehicles, if you take contact from your side/ sector, return fire out the window (or a porthole if you have those installed, either way), and once advantageous with said lull/ break in fire, you maneuver out and around the vehicle to the opposite side or to immediate accessible cover (rear doors around the back, front doors around the front). There's several processes/ actions you can do but it all varies on the action/ behavior of the enemy and the nature of the incoming fire. High risk indeed, we don't call a vehicle a "steel coffin" for nothing, got to practice it.

@DJTheMetalheadMercenary If you listen to this guy you will be dead in seconds. Guaranteed. His advice obviously comes from watching TV and movies. NOT reality. Doors open NO COVER WHATSOEVER. NONE. ZERO. Except from airsoft BBs which is clearly where this advice originates.

Launch the smoke to provide a distraction then only get out if the vehicle is disabled or at risk of bigger inbound fire that could defeat the cover it provides... There's always risk... stay as calm as possible and stick with how you trained.

Interesting perspective. Though, tbh, if some shit were going down in the US I wouldn’t be wanting to take a stroll in any unarmored vehicle unless I knew that area was secured.

RemmemberUnarmored vehicles are NOT COVER! Assuming the majority of us are not turning our trucks & suvs into killdozers or Mad Max menageries, we will have UNARMORED VEHICLES. Modern cars are made out of lightweight tin, aluminum and plastics. The ONLY, I Repeat ONLY places thst will afford ballistic protection is the core engine block and if equipped, rear Drum brakes, this includes the axle n drive train. EVERY, EVERY other part is equivalent to hiding behind paper plates. 9mm, .40 .45. .357 .44 5.56(all) 7.62 &.308 and anything above that will zip right through any modern unarmored vehicle like a hot knife thru butter! I used to demonstrate this in Military to PSD team and to cops and SWAT so folks can see first hand how little protection a car, truck or suv provides. Engine block (Not the whole front of vehicle, just the block) and the axles and drums n rotors. If the are using Armor Piercing (AP) Rounds from any above rifles, the all bets off guaranteeing Any protection. Also remember skipping rounds under cars will take out your or their feet, then fall down, then shot in torso. Unarmored vehicles are NOT COVER

I have been shot at in a standard vehicle. A friend and I were leaving a night club, I was sitting in the front passenger seat and my friend was in the driver seat. A car pulled up next to us, the passenger shouted something at us then began shooting. I bailed out the passenger door and crawled up behind the engine. My friend was not so lucky, he tried climbing over the center console and was shot multiple times in the back and legs. Luckily a group of people leaving the club saw what happen and ran back inside to call 911 (this was before cell phones). After the shooter left I began working on my friend and was able to get most of the bleeding under control. I became certified as a wilderness emergency response medic a few weeks before and I believe if not for that training, I would not have been able to stabilize my friend. He survived, it took him about 2 years to rehab and walk again. It turned out local gang members mistook my friends vehicle for one of their rivals. Gear is good but training it better. Get certified in basic wilderness first aid, it's a 2 day course. Civilians are the first responders, case in point, the current hurricane disaster and the lack of federal response.

Depends on the purpose of the vehicle. Suv's lend themselves to gun truck or command usage. Trucks lend themselves to sustainment. My experience is that you might be surprised how much "stuff" you actually need when conducting "combat operations". So if in doubt, go with the truck. Phil

When I was in Iraq the last time I was 51 and was somewhat of a porker. My unit SOP was to exit the vehicle on the opposite side of incoming fire. As you said, "there's a lot of shit in the vehicle." I told my driver if we got hit on my side I'm going out the door and run around to his side. The way I see it I had a better chance of success that way. I didn't want to get shot in my fat ass trying to climb over all that shit in the truck.

Rather than welding plates, I’ve seen a lot of “how to” on KZbin with epoxy and fiberglass for armor plates. I don’t trust that to my body but maybe to fix it to vehicle doors🤷🏻♂️ could be a work around for weight. Check out those how to videos

Risk adversity, that could be an interesting thread to pull. I have seen in training a lit more caution than in real life, as you would expect. The real risk in training is you hurting yourself. Such as doing a cross vehicle escape and ramming your knee into a center consul shifter. Risk adversity also extends to gear. How much or whay type of armor? How many mags?

Police SOPs rarely translate to civ/militia but being ambushed/shot at in a stopped vehicle seems like a 1 to 1. In short, GTFO. Not stopped? Dont stop!
