Even if they could get the video quality close to a 4k disc, which they can't yet, the audio still gets compressed big time. For me, audio is the biggest reason to buy physical media.

I don't know if you'd be interested and revisiting this idea but one of the things that streaming has the biggest problem with is Shadow detail in darker scenes, so that would honestly be the best test to show the difference between streaming and a 4K Blu-ray IMO.

The interesting thing here is that the disney+ stream has dolby vision HDR which is not included on the 4k bluray (only HDR10) and personally that is a massive thing to have. The colours and contrast pops so much better with DV. Another note, it is possible to rip the 4k bluray file and inject the Dolby vision metadata into it, resulting in the best possible way to watch (because of DV, highest possivle bitrate and you also get the truehd atmos soundtrack)

Yeah, when it comes to Streaming it's best to stick to 1080p. Since it save you on Bandwidth,Data, and the Biterate is close to that of a standard Bluray in some cases. Edit: But, if you wish watch something in 4K via Streaming make it a weekly special event or when if it's the first time watching a film.

I’ve also noticed Disney+ allow the “imax enhanced” for many of their films for streaming only. It’s as if they want you to stream/pay the subscription monthly fee, since the 4K UHD version is a normal cropped out top/bottom black bars. Shame how companies such as Disney can purposely do this

I feel streaming may equal and overtake 4k uhd blu ray in next few years. I say this because Apple tv now streams their 4k movies at bit rates up to 40 mbps, equaling or even surpassing a standard hd disc. Spectrum's standard internet plan is now 400 mbps, so the average home viewer can handle the data, but will the streaming services start falling in line with Apple's higher bit rate? Or another question, do the services have the ability today or very soon to open the data gates or are they hindered on their hardware side, i.e. cable, optical, servers, etc.?
@impartially_dead60542 жыл бұрын
I feel like the data caps isp's have in the US will prevent streaming services from upping the bandwidth since nobody's gonna wanna burn 50gb of their 1tb plan for every movie they wanna watch.

I don't get a consistent 4k when it comes to streaming, a lot of times i am getting 720p, love the 4k disc, hdr and audio is a major reason i get things on disc still get things physically. Plus side internet goes down, i am not at the mercy to it.

You compare static scenes which for sure will be better on 4k, but during normal watch and NORMAL distance (not 300% zoom - this is ridiculous you compare scenes on that zoom) you WON'T notice any difference 99% of the time.

The ironic thing is some Disney 4K Disks are only formted in HDR10 while the Streaming Version is offered in Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG. Not to mention the Streaming version also get a "mini upgrade" before its added onto the platform. (in cases when the Disk version came out a Month before the Streaming copy)
@shae15473 жыл бұрын
Yeah but disney plus uses really crappy Dolby vision, you're better off with normal HDR tbh
@KaeganThornhillTheCyberRaven3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Disney+ Dolby Vision is very hit and miss. Sometimes it's used well other time it adds a odd green hue to the whole film. Not to meantion the color banding on Disney+ HDR formats really pull you out of the movie some time.
@shae15473 жыл бұрын
@@KaeganThornhillTheCyberRaven definitely, I wish they put Dolby Vision on discs but what can you do, gotta be some incentive for plus I guess!
@KaeganThornhillTheCyberRaven3 жыл бұрын
@@shae1547 You hit the nail on the head. Disney wants their streaming service look appealing as possible so they choose to add " Exclusive HDR Formats" for their movies on there; while they only put out basic HDR10 for their Disk sets. Heck, half of the times the Disk ports don't even use "Full HDR10" and mastered at a sub 900nit so you lose a lot of peak brightness details and gain a ton of crushed shadows. But when Disney do roll out a proper HDR10 film the color pop off the screen and look stunning. Hopefully they will let one of the Side Studio they own to do the Disk port going forward so we can at lest get HDR10+ on later 4K disk transfers.
@shae15473 жыл бұрын
@@KaeganThornhillTheCyberRaven Exactly, it's a marketing thing.Even worse problem is now that Disney owns fox it's affected physical media big time. They're being very picky on what to release on 4k from the Fox catalog.

With total respect to bluray collectors is this not just a video to justify the need to collect blurays in the age of streaming? The absolute vast majority of people who want movies are totally satisfied with streaming and won't feel the need to have their home cluttered up with loads of bluray boxes.To be honest streaming is the future and bluray will become a niche product, as for providers removing content that is a rumour put about by bluray collectors to justify bluray purchases. I have had my itunes account around 12 years a few if my movies have been removed from the store to purchase but I still have full access to them

Hi, my pc is capable of running Dolby Amos for home theater on windows 10 when attached to my TV and sound system through an HDMI cord. For the Netflix app it works great but for everything on a browser it doesn’t work at all, specifically Disney plus does not play any sound at all when it is in Dolby Atmos for home theater. I really want to experience Star Wars in surround sound, please let me know if you have any idea on how to fix this or if you can explain why this is happening.
