I LOVE THIS STORY. Best part this was done before the legislation had been finalized, voted on or even signed into law. It was Publicly disclosed. They used common established legal term Royal lives clause so basic it’s on a standard Bar exam. Even the upset board members example of 99 years basically backs up that long time terms can be entered upon. But the biggest own is this board walked in thinking they were there to mess with Disney only to find Disney saw them coming before the law was even written.

Universal and SeaWorld might not had looked into Florida if Disney didn’t build on the swamp lands and made a profit. I’m sure Florida would be fine enough if Disney were to leave, but they will still take a great loss in the economy. Disney had always been king in theme parks, and Universal a close second since Harry Potter opened. Still, people confuse rides from Universal and expect to find them at Disney.

Reedy Creek's old board published this twice in the Orlando Sentinel prior to the vote and held a public meeting so competent people would have been more aware. Brayden…..WDW did announce these docs last year via the county in an announcement (they were supp’dly following Florida’s Sunshine Law. So, they weren’t hiding it. They did this shortly after the change of RCID was done last year and all I have to say to this is BRAVO Disney!!! BRAVO!!! If DeSantis had read the Orlando Sentinel, he would have known. As for the 1st Amendment argument, that still remains fresh…and any further retaliation may well re-start the statute of limitations. DeSantis is out as governor after 2026. That case would likely not make it to SCOTUS until around 2030.

As stated here Disney doesn't have to ultimately win this battle in court. All they have to do is delay things until the political landscape shifts in Florida or until they decide to make other arrangements to deal with this issue in other ways. Disney has been notorious for decades for how cutthroat their legal department is at defending the corporation's interests and we are just getting a taste of what the government in Florida is in for. For those who think this will be over in a year think again. For those who think the Florida government can legislate their way past this problem... well that's how they got into this mess in the first place. Any bills passed into law to threaten Disney's control over their own property, infrastructure or IP will be instantly challenged in court and set aside until they are adjudicated for legality. The suits and countersuits and appeals are going to drag on for years and it's all going to end up costing the Florida tax payers an enormous amount of money. AND IF by some chance the political landscape doesn't shift away from it's current position in that timeframe and Florida is actually able to start dictating what Disney can and can't do with it's own properties and further development in a way that quote unquote "fights the woke agenda" it's not just going to hurt Disney it's going to hurt all of Florida because it's going ti turn tourist away from all parts of the country and all over the world. IF that scenario unfolds Disney will come to a point where they start shifting assets away from Florida and to other states and other countries. And while Disney is in the crosshairs right now a time will come when this war gets taken to the other big corporate tourist players in Orlando and Central Florida because ALL of these corporations have done the math and realized that coming out against diversity or tolerance and acceptance is a money losing proposition for them. Conservatives like to use the phrase, "go woke and go broke." But the truth is somebody has done the math, read the spreadsheets, and received the polling data and they realized that if they continue down the path that is NOT quote unquote "woke" they are more likely to lose money than if they moved toward diversity instead. Because in the end none of these companies give a shit about being woke, all they care about is money. And if they really thought they were going to be hurt financially by being LGBT inclusive or multiethnic inclusive than they would never have started doing so. DeSantis and his followers are playing checkers while Disney is playing chess at a Grand Master's level when it comes to legal maneuvering. They have literal decades of institutional experience in the legal fields used to protect themselves and billions and billions of dollars at their disposal to fight with. I'm reminded of a line I saw recently in a TV show where the hero is threatened and tells the person threatening them, "this will not end well for you."

The state and counties now have to pay for Disney's police, fire, roads, sewers, etc., things that Disney use to pay for out of its own pocket.
