I agree with most of what you say but I want to add something about the characters in Disney Infinity. The first two games hade very streamlined and simple control schemes but they added a bunch of moves in the 3.0-version. I would say that the character complexity of that game can be compared to the senseis of Imaginators. Both Disney Infinity 2.0 and 3.0 have characters that have very distinct move sets and I would have to say that it’s definitely worth getting a bunch of them. The Skylanders games have a bit more flow to them from a technical perspective with sharper textures and better frame rate but the Disney Infinity games have many draws as well, like the sandbox mode you mentioned yourself.

I've played both. I like the combat of skylanders better, and the fact that you dont need to pay for a story mode. Everything else with Disney infinity I like. Honestly if you like Disney infinity you'd like skylanders, vice versa

have to disagree. I LOVE Skylanders....I even really like LEGO Dimensions. But aside from the inclusion of Marvel & Star Wars characters I hated Disney Infinity. You can't crossover like the marketing insinuated, even within the same set it got convoluted for no reason ( I had the 2.0 starter pack, and found out only a select set of Marvel characters can be used in the story level...LAME ). Then there's the intense focus the games have on the toy box mode...really not my thing. then there's how it controls...Disney Infinity feels really awkward & clunky compared to Skylanders. and of course there's how each game worked....if you got into the first Infinity, then got 2.0 you still had to play the original to use the original playsets, same with going from 2.0 to 3.0. sure the figures still functioned, but you needed all 3 games to use the playset toys. oh, and the blind bags...f. that. As much as I feel like the Traps and Creation Crystals were poorly handled ( some never even released everywhere ffs ) at least they weren't in blind bags ( sadly the Imaginite Chests were, but at least there are only 3 chests to worry about rather than dozens & dozens of power up discs ). SO liking one won't necessarily mean you'll like the other.

Played all of the 3/4 toys to life series (skylanders, disney infinity, lego dimensions, and amiibo) as the released, so I know a bit about each. Disney infinity out of the box gives you the toy box, a sandbox that lets you play as any character and build anything you want. You can place blocks, buildings, structures, racetracks, interactable objects, enemies, etc. The toy box itself is quite complex and gets pretty deep, much like redstone wiring is in minecraft. The stories you can play are in play set pieces, clear structures you place on the base/portal (like the bonus levels in skylanders). Each play set has its own story, following characters within said play set's universe. You have pirates of the Caribbean, Inside out, Guardians of the galaxy, and so on. Play sets however are not as open as the toy box is and won't allow characters that are not from the play set's universe in them. for instance, Sully from monsters Inc. can't be used in the Star Wars play sets. There are play set coins that can allow certain characters into the play set, but these are found within the play set only and are very limited. Play sets are also locked to their specific game, so a play set from Disney Infinity 1.0 can not be played in 2.0 or 3.0. Play sets are generally good, with some of the later ones like the Twilight of the Republic play set having a lot of dense content and multiple hours of gameplay. Characters are pretty fun to play as and have their own skill trees that you can upgrade, like skylanders, just with skill points you get from leveling up, not money. money is used to unlock more stuff in the toy box. The figures themselves are of a really high quality, I recommend getting some if you are a fan of disney, marvel, or star wars. If you want to try the game out but don't want more figurines (as you've probably got quite a few skylanders and don't need more figures to take up space) I recommend the games on steam. The go for about 30$ each but have gone on sale in a bundle for about 20$. The digital games on steam have all the characters preinstalled that work within the game, so you don't need to buy each character. 3.0 is missing an update to add the last play sets (finding dory and marvel's battlegrounds) and characters, but still has all 3 star wars play sets if you want those. Altogether, the games are good with a lot of recognizable characters, but still don't quite match up to skylanders. getting only one Disney Infinity game gets you over half of what's in the other two games, which makes getting the others only to find much of it the same quite boring. Even with new characters and unique styles the game still feels the same each installment, something I can't say about skylanders, even with giants, the game many agree is the most sequel-like. The only reason to get previous installments is to play their respective play sets, and those came separately (minus the free one you got with the game, if you got it new). TLDR: Disney infinity is a great game with a good sandbox and mini stories in the play sets, but still isn't as good as skylanders. If you want to try the games, get them on steam, they are cheap for what they come with.

I played both back when they first came out. My biggest criticism of the game is I feel it underutilized toys-to-life. In Skylanders, there were eight elements, each with four characters to choose from. If you go into a zone where the Life element is most powerful, you can pick from very different life skylanders. Do I want to play stealth elf? Zook? Stump smash? Camo? But in Infinity, if you're playing Monsters Inc. for example, you can *only* use Mike, Sully, or Randal. And as SGTV said, none of them really differ from one another in game. I do like the sandbox gameplay in Infinity, but collecting all the figures felt a little pointless, whereas in Skylanders it was fun.

I feel like Skylanders did a better job with immersion and making the toys-to-life aspect seem magical. Things like characters glowing on the portal, the extremely meta Trap Tram final boss fight, and the interesting elements and gimmicks helped it. The Disney Infinity toys-to-life aspect felt more tacked on to me.

I actually had infinity before skylanders, as my friend had Giants and I really wanted to play a game like it, but I bought infinity instead of swap force, and absolutely despised it, I already had minecraft and was disappointed that my phineas and Perry figures didn't have a level. The next year I got Trap team and absolutely loved it

i played both games as a kid, but only really played the first game for disney infinity. I played up until superchargers as a kid, and got back into it this year with imaginators. with disney infinity i never really got into 2.0, and couldn’t be bothered to even get 3. Skylanders honestly felt like a better game, where i truly enjoyed every second of collecting and playing as the characters. sandbox was fun but couldn’t catch my interest in the same way, and the same went for the level packs

Infinity 1.0 is a Pixar game with Johnny Depp, 2.0 is mostly a marvel game, 3.0 is mostly a star wars game. Not allowing the playsets to be used in the newer games does hurt some of the replayability.

I've been saying for a while now that the best triple threat of Smash fighters we could get would be Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and Stealth Elf. Ive played Dinsey infinity on Steam Pc port so didnt have to buy or own all of the toys to acquire them in the game. Each Disney infinity game has its own playbox sets which is a story line set of levels. The first one had all disney themed sets like cars, monsters university, pirates etc, while the second one focused on Marvel and the 3rd game had Star wars playsets added. I like the sandbox creation and the ability to make your own mini games so to speak, but this video didnt really tell me much about the other game Skylanders that i have not played. I was looking for other sandbox like games similar to infinity where one can make their own mini game scenarios. So when I saw this video comparing Skylanders to infinity I figured bith games were sandbox open world creating games. But the only comparison you confirmed for me is that both games have toy to game aspects which is an aspect I could care less about.

I still have the starter figures but that was all I actually liked about it. I’ve played Disney infinity like one a few years ago but I grew up with skylanders and have had four of the games giants swap force trap team and imaginators respectively I probably wouldn’t like Disney infinity yes skylanders has some levels where you need to buy a character to unlock levels but the designs of the characters are usually unique and skylanders probably outsold it swap force probably outsold it even though it came out the same year

Neither of them, because Lego Dimensions did a better job by balancing the storyline of Skylanders, and the fanservice that Disney Infinity has. The problems with that game are either just misinformation, or because it's not the PS4 or Xbox One versions, as the Wii U and PS3 versions have bugs and glitches then the former versions.

Except that game brings nothing to the table as it is just a regular lego game with the characters removed and resold to you. All it has is fan service and even if you have all the components for one dlc you still need to buy unnecessary characters to 100% a level you actually care about

So like LEGO Dimensions, I was just in the middle ground just trying to be reasonable by saying Dimensions is better than the other Toys to Life games when in actuality, I was just annoyed. Nowadays, it seems like Skylanders isn’t as talked about as much, and honestly I felt like I was defending LEGO Dimensions way too much, so I think should 100% replay that game, and understand the flaws while defending the misinformed criticism.

@Skylanders Fan69 Disney infinity characters are all very unique and cheap, while Skylanders are unoriginal and bland, skylanders are badly designed characters that are more expensive than Disney infinity characters, disney infinity doesn't really encourage you to buy more because it's focused around the sandbox, but Skylanders wants you to buy new stuff like new Skylanders and traps, because Skylanders give you more life's in the games and unlock specific areas.
