Disney is so crazy, like I work at a historically one room first run theater, and Disney makes it so hard to get ANY movie from them. Like a one screen theater cannot keep a movie for 4-5 weeks, which is what they always ask, and stay in business. We can almost never get Disney movies and when we do we barely get any money bc they ask for such a large cut.

Jurassic Park was my favorite movie when I was little and remains one of my favorites because I saw the 3D version for the 20th anniversary in an “Extreme Theater” which was 3 stories tall. But here is some cliff notes: Basically, in the 1900s, Hollywood was controlled by the major studios (like Warner Bros, MGM, 20th century Fox). Those companies controlled theaters, actors pay, and who can get distributed in their theaters (Surprise it was only them in their own theater). They also did block booking (which is also now illegal). The US government charge Universal, Warner Bros., Paramount, MGM, RKO Pictures, Colombia, United Artists and 20th Century Fox with antitrust. The United States won. Then the US gov. made a court ruling stating that theaters can't be owned by the studios nor the studios can block book anymore because it hurted small independent studios like Disney (at the time). I say technically because Disney and other studios are basically doing their own streaming services (Which they could only show their parent's content) and they should be busted for not following what Paramount's court case ruled. Time is just a repeat.

I mean Disney vault has been a thing for a while so it’s not really a thing and people get excited when the movie comes out and make it more important than it really is. Watch Dumbo on Disney+, it’s literally still the same, they just put a disclaimer and that was it. Netflix has had it’s problems with studios long before the Irishman. Martin saying that marvel movies are invading cinema and are not cinema Is pretty stupid, anything with cinematic elements is cinema, he also said they do not invoke any emotion which we both know is untrue. Actually that would be illegal. Literally the reason the golden age of Hollywood ended was because studios owned their own theatres and had an oligopoly over the entire industry where they could control exactly what was being shown. Paramount was taken to the supreme court and lost, making it illegal.

I work at a theater that does throwback movie screenings, and I’ll just say this is not anything new. Disney has always been against these sort of screenings since Michael Eisner has been in CEO. They’re only in favor of screening their classic movies when it’s in the big screen like at an AMC or Cinemark, or in conjunction with a major brand like Turner Classic Movies. Either they want the masses to see their films or no one. This is the case for all their subsidiaries: Touchstone, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and now Fox.

Adam Lemus exactly!!! When they started naming all these services that were coming out to go along with the existing ones, I said cable will end up seeing a boom in customers again!!! Disney already raised the tv package on Hulu $10 more starting in December!!! Disney is the controlling owner of Hulu now that they bought Fox!!

I'm concerned about the end of the VCR because it eliminates the concept of home archiving. You can keep things on a PVR but the space is limited and eventually it will get erased or the machine will be replaced. PVRs aren't good for long term storage. Movie companies never liked VCRs and there isn't a good substitute unless one uses a computer to store to DVD-R. Even HDs can fail. But it's the concept of home archiving that's in danger and there's a risk of it being made illegal with streaming so you can't have a copy unless you buy it.
