Stuff like Panini stickers have already risen in price so much kids can very easily spend ludicrous amounts of their allowance trying to complete a simple sticker album... The other thing is that Disney has stated there are no exclusive cards per se. All cards can be obtained through booster packs and each pack has at least 2 rare/super rare/legendary and a random foil. They also are not doing 1st editions so people stockpile and they plan to do multiple runs of the “chapters” so people late to the party won’t feel left out from certain cards. Sounds like they are doing a decent job of keeping it family friendly. Only problem is they have waaay underestimated the amount of demand.

Yes! Here's what each 12 card booster pack will contain: 6 common cards 3 uncommon cards 2 rare, super rare, or legendary cards 1 foil card (random rarity level) So say you pick up 3 booster packs while shopping and open them. You would own 18 common cards and only a total of 6 of the rare, super rare or legendary ones.

IE: Just buy a bunch of pre-made decks and get all the content? But you mentioned boosters so it makes me think there may be a rarity element (IE: spend tons of money to get rares) -Does it play at more than 2 player? And if so, does it play well at more than 2 players? Thats my biggest thing. I really dont care for card games that are 1v1 I really enjoy 2v2 modes or other stuff like commander with multiple players although I stopped playing magic like 20 years ago.

Yes, they have rarity, 5 levels of rarity. Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, and Legendary (I think those are the names). The cards have icons (bottom center) to show rarity. All versions of the cards can also be normal or foil. 12 card Booster distribution is 6 Common / 3 Uncommon / 3 cards which can be Rare or above. One of twelve cards will be foil. The game is also designed to be multi-player, from 2 to 4 players. This is part of the design, multi-player is not a bolt-on, it was initially designed to handle 2 to 4. This is exactly what Disney did with infinity - they essentially copied the idea of another IP (Skylanders) and then the moment the hype died down, they dumped it. Don't forget too - the moment their movies stopped selling, they'd put them in the "vault" until demand was high enough before re-releasing them. Disney will make several million in sales on Lorcana. They'll release 3, maybe 4 add-ons (OBVIOUSLY Marvel and Star Wars will debut at some point) and then the moment one expansion sells drastically less than the previous one - POOF - it'll be gone. This - like every other non-cinematic thing Disney has ever done, will be a flash in the pan.

If you're not trying to be hyper-competitive in your LGS' standard format then there's no reason to spend a ton of money on one deck if you don't want to. Not saying you have to like the model or that its without its criticisms, but it's absolutely possible to engage CCGs on a budget and still have fun within their systems, especially as time goes on.

@@Snarkysean You are absolutely right but I really detest what's beeing pulled off here. Everybody knows that TCG's are so close to gambling that the line is hard to see. And now we have a TCG aimed at kids ... The argument for buying just what you need depends on a sufficiently large secondary market to supply those cards... will this develop for this game? And how are those markets supplied? Yup by those that buy the boosters. So sombody does need to gamble or there are no singles (unless Ravensburger would offer them). And no you dont only need new cards for a competative meta. Deckbuilding and strategizing is a huge part of the fun in these types of games. Buying two starter decks turns stale fast ... and that is by design...
@lordxmugen Жыл бұрын
the problem with LCGs though is that the moment you cant "keep up" with the monthly distribution model, youre done. And any new player that wants to get into to play and experience the meta with other players they have to often pay MORE than it would cost just to play the deck(s) they like. Its why LCGs are typically only for Single player/Co-Op PVE games. Because you dont have to care about getting an expansion unless you really want it. but for PVP games, theyre just a harder sell than a TCG unless its done like Ashes where you get full decks to play with instead of just some barebones monthly "pack".

I feel like this game will make a big splash but its waves will diminish sooner then expected. People's animosity twards Disney is growing every year. With corporate executives making asses of themselves during the strike, mid level recent films, and ludicrously expensive amusement park attractions that only cater to lottery ticket winners... People seem to be moving on from them. I don't think this'll tear away MTG gamers who's life savings are in their collections. Its not as dark and gritty, adults probably won't care to play it, and kids can't afford to keep up with it unless they have a steady job. Like I said it'll sell like hot cakes at first but i think it'll lose steam within a year or two like SW Destiny.

Attacking only cards that have been exhausted is not from Magic the Gathering but rather from the Transformers TCG
@FordDisk Жыл бұрын
It's been used in a lot of TCGs. Was a mechanic in the Babylon 5 card game back in the 90s.
@revimfadli4666 Жыл бұрын
Yeah isn't taking attacks with creatures opt-in in MtG? So you can just take the damage if you wanna keep those 1/1s alove(assuming no removal)
@edwardlasso3092 Жыл бұрын
I meant only being able to target exhausted cards was not an MTG mechanism. In MTG, you attack the player and they decide to block or not. In this game and Transformers TCG you can only target other cards if they are exhausted.
@armageddon_gaming Жыл бұрын
Attacking exhausted cards was also in duel masters

Well, it's NOT a Magic clone. What are the similarities, other than a collectible card game? That's like saying Catan is a clone of Monopoly.

@@nicka.9057 I don't know. They lost over 44% stock (a.k.a. $128 billion in market cap) last year alone and are laying off people left and right. If this continues, they might get rolled up by another corporation. Technically it's surviving but only in shame.

@@christopherjakel1049 Disney spiked over the pandemic. Their "loss" was just them returning to pre-pandemic levels that they maintained from 2015-2019. Disney isn't really hurting especially considering that they own Marvel and Star Wars among other IPs.

The game rules seem fair enough, but from the sound of it this isn't draftable. If it's not draftable, then there's going to be a large difference between "casual" games and "competitive" games, which is not a good thing. 6 "colors" seems like 1-3 too many, and from what we've seen, I'm not sure of the flavor of each color. MTG and Pokemon each have fewer colors, and resource cards, which help them to balance limited and make the flavor clear. Finally, the flavor of having multiples of the same character seems like a big mistake. I think maybe doing a MTG Grandeur-esque mechanic to encourage 4-ofs without having multiples on the field at the same time would have been the way to go. I'm also not a fan of having to reveal your resources because some of the cards can't be used as "ink"; this is an extra step that gives away too much information and can lead to information overload. It would be a lot easier if these were always face down; the "balance" aspect of some cards not being inkable is simply not worth the complexity, especially since the information gained here is probably useless in most situations. (Not all; Duel Masters does a lot with their shield cards; and VS does something similar, so they're also cutting off design space for no real good reason.)

The developer has stated in interviews that they intend to release draft kits in the future.
@williamsimkulet7832 Жыл бұрын
@@whiteshark17 Games where any card can be a resource are difficult to make draftable, as you now need to draft 100% of the deck (rather than 60%). Given off color cards can be resources, it really incentivizes hate drafting. Either you get to play the bomb, or it's just "a land" and you know your opponents don't get to play it.

Pokémon has fewer colors? Fire-Water-Grass-Lightning-Normal-Psychic-Dark-Fairy-Dragon-Steel-Fighting and probably another one, not sure if this is different than what you meant
@williamsimkulet7832 Жыл бұрын
@@WhatUpRob You're right; Pokemon TCG has about the same (minus Dragon & Fairy, which come and go, and Normal, which doesn't count); but they're more intuitive. I know why Paras is Grass; I don't know why Olaf is Purple.
