kind of amazed neither skyrise, nor wonderous creatures made the list, both are amazing productions

Ironwood would be my top pick for this category. It has great wooden and iron components and one of the best art design

I have no particular quibble with anything on your list, but I am a little disappointed that Fromage didn't make it. From the unique way they implemented the lazy susan design that allows for simultaneous play, to the innovative facing mechanism for the workers that lets you know how many 90° turns must pass before you can pull your worker home, to the way the iconography on the boards makes a medium weight game, that could have instilled a lot of AP in learning players, into a game that's pretty easy to learn and play, this is a winner!

Tom love your videos…but slay the spire sleeves could have been better quality, I’ve had so many split. I’m glad they gave you enough extras, even tho I’m running low on spares
@bostonjcubКүн бұрын
Yeah, I played a friend’s copy and at least 5-10 split in that game alone. It’s apparently a known issue. Tom got that part wrong.

I got mine from retail and haven't had any problems after- 20 hours of play. And that includes a 7-year old sleeving half the cards and playing in all of the sessions. Not discounting your experience, but maybe the quality is inconsistent?

@ I’ve heard mixed reviews, could be a quality control thing

Could be they fixed this known issue in the units produced for retail?

Video Game Champion really goes all in with the 90s video game nostalgia. They did a good job with it.

Endeavor : Deep Sea. Bonus points for making it with no plastics, especially for a game about preserving or saving the ocean.

Agree with River of Gold but -10 points because the insert doesn’t fit all the components 😆 it looks good but it’s terrible!

I was expecting Andromedas Edge to place but then I remembered that the crew thought the individual game trays weren't great which was something Eldervale got a lot of praise for at the time of release.

Disagree about the slay the spire sleeves. They peel after a few plays and I had to replace them all with Dragon Shield sleeves. The cards and components as a whole though feel so good.
@beerman2000Күн бұрын
They claimed to have had a bad batch of sleeves that caused the peeling. A couple pictures and they sent me 500 replacements

.. am I missing something? What is so great about #1? I'm sure it's a great game, but nothing about the pic used looks amazing or outstanding. Just another 2 player game. Galileo Galilei, Seti, Unconscious Mind, Civolution, Fromage, Windmill Valley, Reef Project, Black Forest, Wonderous Creatures or Daitoshi, to name a few have much cooler table presence.

My Slay the Spire sleeves are all falling appart after 3 plays, so I would not say the sleeves are high quality.
@lonniestewart8428Күн бұрын
I have to agree with many here, there were at least a few games I would have thought of over some on this list: Andromeda’s Edge, Unconscious Mind, Endeavor: Deep Sea. Also, Fromage was pretty innovative with the dual layered main board. I do agree with Let’s Go to Japan (Matsuri Edition). It’s excellent, especially for primarily a card game.
@feldmanjbКүн бұрын
IMO Fractured Sky's production actually gets in the way of the game. The spot uv on the board makes it really hard to see from many angles, the cards are hard to read, the lines are strange, the theme is forgettable. The colors on the cards make very little sense in a way that you think should be helpful, but somehow is very much not. Honestly the only thing that works is the magnets. The deluxe holo components are even harder to read than the regular cards.

Sheesh, it's a massive oversight to omit Unconscious Mind. Maybe one of the most stunning productions... ever. Honourable mention to Inventions: Evolution of Ideas. I not a fan of the game design (I do adore Lisboa), but the production and art are phenomenal. But sure, Slay the Spire. Zoinks!
@ScytheNoireКүн бұрын
I'm a huge production snob, and I think you missed some of the best of the year, and I would argue are all better productions (deluxe version) than those you mentioned. Unconscious Mind Skyrise Andromeda's Edge Freedom Five

The sleeves in slay the spire are pretty bad. The art peels really fast and they don’t shuffle well. I’d suggest buying new sleeves or over sleeves if you want to preserve the art
