Disney Lorcana Game Play, Cards, Experience | Our Thoughts

I have 4 boys and have collected Pokémon cards for years. Only within the last 2 years have I actually learned how to play the game and now one of my sons does Pokémon tournaments. I wouldn’t have even given Lorcana a second thought but now I’m very interested.

Great review! Agree 100% with everything you said. One of the things that made me most hopeful about the future of Lorcana is that when I went to my local Starter Deck event, the diversity was incredible. All ages, genders, seasoned TCG players and people who have never played a card game in their lives having a good time testing out their decks, showing off what they got from their boosters. No gatekeeping, no judgement, no hypercompetitive players wanting to dominate the event. It was truly incredible. I am now hosting weekly Lorcana nights at my FLGS and hope to bring more people to the hobby through Lorcana!

So much envy for your enchanted Elsa! Its always wonderful to see when youre super excited about a game. Its amazing how simple the game is to learn, but youre right there so much complexity and synergies. I hope they revisit they 80s cartoons so we get Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Tailspin and Gargoyles

FYI, your Enchanted Elsa card is now selling for $700-800 (USD)... I wish I didn't know that, but I do. The marketplace around this game is honestly insane (with more than a few toxic individuals). I've seen and heard far more about buying and selling these cards than I have heard anyone actually paying with them. Thank you for actually, you know, playing games!! You guys are the best.

Couldn’t agree more on the game play!! We could only get our hands on 3 starter decks and 7 booster packs but got really lucky and pulled the enchanted Tinker Bell and enchanted Simba. Can’t wait to get more!

Love the theme but I sunk so much $ in MTG back in the day that I’m afraid to dip my toes in the Lorcana quicksand 🤣 For now, I may stick to table top board games where a single investsment comes with infinite amounts of replays and no quarterly temptation every time a new Chapter is released !

my FLGS has starter decks for $25 a piece and had booster boxes for $160 with a limit of 1 per person- which of course were sold out on day one within a few hours. Owner has been good to me in the past (example- holding me one of each starter deck and box because I couldn't get there until the following day of release) and staff is always friendly, so I didn't mind supporting them on this.

Thank you for doing this video. Even though I know most things about the game, I think this is highly educative and helpful for people who didn't really read much about the game. It was so much fun hanging out in the stream, watching you open your packs and play the game. Still team ruby/emerald. If I'll ever be able to meet you guys, I'm challenging you to a match though. And I love the idea of taking your common cards to Disney and try to get them signed. I'd love to do that myself. Oh and Jeff, I'll never forget the Star Trek TNG TCG. I should really try to get some of the old cards. I was mostly collecting back then but I played with my mum from time to time as well. Love you guys and what you do and am looking forward to your next videos.

Hey! Yea I also only collected the TNG TCG. I remember once trying to sit down with a buddy and play and we were like “nah”. I looked it up not long ago and I think most cards are pretty cheap to buy. I might look into it too for nostalgia sake alone

I had a rollercoaster for Lorcana, had a booster box and trove preordered through an FLGS(at a good price), but they didn't get their full allotment they expected so my order was cancelled, they did people who had their order cancelled and offered some of the starters they had left over but I secured starers, trove, and gift set elsewhere which is finally on the way. An FLGS is doing a learner's league type thing, but UPS didn't deliver their order until Tuesday this week, so the league was delayed a week until this Friday. But yeah, I come from MTG and was introduced to board games through that, and I'm definitely excited for this. I dunno about longevity or anything and while that matters in some ways I just want to enjoy it. I love card games, I love Disney, and this is something I can see my wife getting into with me (we're huge Disney nerds former magic key holders, just got off a Disney cruise for my bday, etc.) and eventually our daughter as she starts to understand game rules more. Really hoping this league develops into a nice scene near me, and lots of lorcana action to come. Hope I get lucky and get an enchanted card like you all too, my daughter would be so excited to see an Elsa (though I'd have to protect it before showing her lol). Hoping the game isn't too hard to get because I do not want to reward scalpers

I’ve heard many stories of game stores and events filled with young children and parents enjoying the game together and that’s all that I can hope continues, yourself included. I’m confident this will be a great thing to expand more awesome people into this awesome hobby

Just picked up the three starter decks from a local game store for MSRP. Got some good pulls (nothing as crazy as you got, but one that is selling for 30-40 on TCG right now) from the boosters included there. Played those starter decks for time with my husband, and we enjoyed it! Need to get some sleeves, I suppose.

Hmm. Good question. I think event specific promos are cool. I do think there is value to catering some to the collecting crew, and Jamie and I do like to collect. I think keeping the enchanteds rare, having some event promos, and keeping the bulk of the cards accessible is ideal

@@FostertheMeepleare the enchanted ones always in a pack ? Just don’t know which one you’ll get ? Or do some packs not contain any ? And Is if possible to get duplicated ? I’m a bit confused as to the overall construction of each pack that we can potentially purchase. Thanks !

@@missmermaidatheart6424 enchanteds are not in every pack, they are the rarest cards currently. Each pack will have commons, uncommons (I don’t know exact amounts but it’s the same in every pack), and then you’ll have random cards that will vary from rare to legendary, and that will vary per pack. You’ll also always get a foil card, rarity of that card is always random.

@@FostertheMeeple hey another question for you guys ! Do you know how long chapter 1 will be available to purchase ? Is it something that will still Be available once chapter 2 releases ? I’m not new to hobby games but I’m definitely new to ccgs and don’t know how that all typically works. Just kind of trying to figure out a timeline of how long I have to acquire cards from chapter 1 before they become difficult to get ( or is that ever even a thing ??). Thanks !!

You actually don't have to use 2 colors. You can build a solo color deck and it's perfectly legal.

It's probably more like keyforge than mtg, but yeah very similar, but less interactive. I do enjoy the inking though, way better than mtg's mana system.

Haven’t played keyforge but it’s definitely magic adjacent. You basically have magic with a race to 20 instead of decreasing health values.

I thought hard about this one. I've got a "Jeff" background, was heavily into MTG back in the day...this bring back memories of coming home with booster boxes and opening them all up with a friend. Man, that was our legal method for getting high back then 😂 SW: Destiny was the same way. But, it also reminds me of what these games are. A $$ sink. Not that they aren't fun. But, it is way too easy to get caught up in trying to get every card and just buying packs to open them for the rush of excitement (even if you already have 99% of the cards). I may still get sucked in, but I'm not going to stress over the availability right now. I'll revisit the demons in my head in a few weeks when it's fully released and available. Looks amazing, though (the art!!!!). Gameplay looks ok, but I wouldn't expect much more with a first set. Give it a couple years and it will have a little more Oomph to it. Stop it! No! We are NOT buying today! Noooooooooooot Yeeeeeeeetttttttt!!

Dope set on this video! I was wondering how low you think the age can go on this game... could I play it with a 6 year old? Was thinking to get some starter packs to play with my children. But regardless, I had hesitations at first just given how a lot of IP-based games flop. Having played Magic for so many years but never quite being happy with it (mana screw, prohibitive costs, all the formats, complexity, etc) it's nice to see this might actually catch on!
