Disney Prepares for Potential LOSS to Universal Studios for First Time in History: Epic Universe!

I have been a WDW annual passholder every single year since 1998. I even own a long running Disney fan KZbin channel with over 20k subscribers. Today?...I'm done with Disney for a while. I think that Burbank has dragged this great 100 year old brand through the mud in the past 10 years in a dozen different ways. I feel like the fans care more about "Disney" than Burbank does. That's why I'm a new Universal Annual Passholder as of August 2024. I did just return from Tokyo Disneyland and Disney Seas, the two GREATEST theme parks I have ever been to....and it's not, NOT even close!!! But,....[sigh]....I have no idea when I will go back to WDW or Disneyland in Anaheim. I think I will return only after Burbank begins to care about "Disney" as much as I do. Until then?....Universal is my new home.

My family used to say we had Disney in our DNA. For generations we've been going every single year staying at the Disney resorts because " there's no place like Disney" But my blood has been drained also. I was sad about it Now I just feel nothing.. I have enough Disney merchandise to open up my own miniature Disney museum. Alas all things come to an end.

Just came back from Orlando, stayed at Sapphire Falls. Lovely hotel, lovely staff, getting around, very convenient. People were excited for Epic Universe. That promotional store was pretty well packed with people and the merchandise was exciting. My two boys are both very excited to go experience it for the first time next year. Contrast with Disney, no excitement, and no faith. People don’t care about villains land or have any faith regarding the quality thereto. Disney has just shot themselves and the customers in the foot too many turns; it’s burnt through all of the goodwill. Universal is the future, Disney, the past.

For the first time in over a decade I will not be renewing my families annual passes and going to WDW for our annual family Christmas trip. We are instead getting Premier passes for Universal and staying off Disney Property as well. They have finally priced us out. Universal is making the right moves and makes more sense economically.

My first time at WDW was 1982 as a 3 year old. I went dozens of times after that visit. I lived and breathed it. I would look at menus and imagine my next trip. I was married at the pavilion. I started to take my own kids. Then. The Iger regime said they don’t want my type at their parks. So never again. I will never bring my family. And my kids will never bring their families. And on and on. Better make sure they squeeze the current Disney adults for all they’re worth. The end is approaching.

My wife and I have been to Universal Osaka, twice. We will go every trip to Japan. We’ve never been to the Tokyo Disney worlds, I’m not really enthused to go by Disney’s games.

The author of the Deadline article did not do their due diligence for their research. AECOM/TEA within the reports for the 2022 and 2023 theme park years clearly show that neither year came close to the number of guests that they had in 2019 (for domestic Disney). Universal did see an uptick in domestic customers in 2022, but 2023 was slightly down (mostly due to Universal Hollywood). The numbers are not difficult to summarize, but they are nowhere near "record years for the theme parks" as highlighted at 2:15.

I pay to get in Universal, I go in and can be spontaneous, relax, and have fun. I pay to get into Disney, and my expenses are just beginning. I have to plan everything, have my face in my phone, pay ridiculous additional charges to avoid a line or stand there for hours watching rich people pass me in line. Other rides I will never get on because the privileged have already emptied the virtual queue. I'm a twenty year Disney passholder who's now a devoted Universal passholder.

Universal fears Disney. They bumped the release date of Wicked Part One by five days, instead of going head to head with Moana, and also they made this change just ahead of Despicable Me 4's release, because it was obvious they had already lost to Inside Out 2. Moana's sequel WILL hit a billion. But people are not sure how Wicked will do. I do think that Universal wins Father's Day 2025 with How to Train Your Dragon, but between seeing Cynthia Erivo round two and Judy Hopps, people will choose Judy.

Of course investors are scared they just saw comcast doing great or good everywhere with projections to grow with the new park and other plans they have elsewhere. Where as the disney quartlery calls are all about the 3 shells game and disney is running the full conman game just to look like they had an ok quarter and are expecting a soften they cant describe and cannot say how long it will last for. Comcast is a cable company, which is a dead and outdated industry. Their stock is also worth a fraction on Disney’s. It is irrelevant which side you are on, but the numbers do not lie. Epic Universe has the potential to be a great theme park, but it is not large enough (capacity wise) to beat Magic Kingdom. Just look at the parks in California. Universal Studios Hollywood, while hugely successful, is still behind Disney California Adventure.

I don’t mind going to the other Universal parks before epic universe. There are still rides/ attractions shows, that I enjoy at Universal Orlando and at Islands of adventure that I can drive over and over again. My grandson he’s a huge universal fan and I can see him being a big epic universe fan as well. I’m really looking forward to universal monsters. That ride is going to be absolutely amazing. How many Disney park employees ended up at Universal after they were laid off in favor of cheaper workers (after training these new workers). That would be a huge win for Universal to have a new park open with employees that have years of experience working at parks. For example, you aren't going to find animatronic experts on the job market very often. Disney shot itself in the foot. Stale theme park with inexperienced employees going up against new Universal potentially staffed by people who aren't thrilled with Disney.

At universal for 2 weeks for what it cost for 3 or 4 days at Disney we were huge Disney fans several trips from 1982. Then universal is our go to spot now you get value for your money no big cash grabs at universal we might drive over to Disney for a after hours party or just go to downtown Disney and. Then we.
