Absolutly a horrible plan, I agree! For so many reasons! 1.) Disney needs to expand the number of atractions available in their parks to lower the wait times, not destroy/re-theme/etc. 2.) its one of very few remaining original Walt attractions that still exist. 3.) They are destroying "memories" for people and thus destroying their motivation to go back. 4.) This is stuff that costs them very very little in maintenance!

The concept art for the new knockoff Cars area is in the Rivers of America, not northwest in that conservation area. They plan to fill in Rivers of America and remove the island.

Disney is low on cash. Disney will be more low on cash after the hulu payoff. If any of this pie-in-the sky D23 stuff gets built, it will be a phone-it-in job just like Wokeback Mountain.

You are correct. They are eliminating all of the Rivers of America. If this isn’t handled properly, it’s going to look terrible, and knowing modern Disney, that seems more likely than not.

When Iger finally "retires", whoever replaces him needs to have their legal ducks in a row and be prepared to throw the books at Iger, be prepared to take legal action if Iger tries to use the consultant position to continue to control the company. Whoever takes the reins, if Iger starts to make statements like he's speaking for the company needs to be prepared to say "he is a consultant only and does not represent the views of this company currently".

Disney relies upon a huge part of their profit from theme parks, particularly WDW. If Epic Universe steals a significant market share, which it is poised to do soon, the entire Disney company is going to be struggling.
