This episode was what really made me realize how much of an improvement Johnny Yong Bosch's ADR was compared to the MMPR days. I guess that's the payoff for voicing characters in the likes of Naruto and Bleach by this point. It's even wild to put into perspective that he hadn't even voiced Lelouch by this point, that's how long ago this was. Despite Overdrive being an overall pretty poor series, I still get the itch now and again to revisit this episode due to it being the first one I ever recorded on DVR and kept saved because of how cool I thought it was as a 6 year old.

To be fair, once you get out of the Zordon era, the team-up episodes rarely give us a solid connection between Ranger teams. The Wild Force/Time Force team up two parter in Wild Force was the closest we got. Especially when we get further out from the Disney era, and the team-up episodes were no longer an annual thing, instead being reserved for anniversary seasons or whatever the reason Beast Morphers did the Dino themed team-up episode.

Say what you will about Overdrive as a season, but this was the last GOOD team up in the entire franchise! IMO of course... Dimensions in Danger (Super Ninja Steel) was ok, but it was too much of a 'Hey, Tommy is back in town!' kind of 'crossover' episode. Lastly, I agree that the legendary rangers should've had more screentime with the Overdrive team. If I remember correctly, darn near ALL of the rangers lost their powers at one point or another. They could've inspired the Overdrive team about how they NEVER gave up no matter the circumstances and eventually got their powers back! Well, to be fair...the legendary rangers kinda of had NO CHOICE but to fight the good fight because unlike the Overdrive team...the OG rangers didn't have a group of veterans to swoop in to fight when they lost their powers. Adam: MMPR team lost their powers when Rito destroyed the Thunderzords and they had to go on a journey to find Ninjor and get the Ninja powers. Kira: Dino Thunder rangers lost their powers in 'Fighting Spirit' but they still fought while Tommy was in a coma because he inspired his student. Tori: Ninja Storm rangers lost their powers a few times right? I know they lost them until Cam went back into the past and go his powers. Then, Lothor took them in the final battle. Thankfully, the Wind Rangers defeated him with their non-ranger ninja powers. Xander: Mystic Rangers lost their powers and had to live in a world without good magic resulting in them having to go to a different dimension to eventually earn their powers back! Bridge: The only time I recall B-Squad 'losing their powers' was when their morphers were taken in the S.W.A.T. 2-parter and they earned their ranger status back after learning how to work as a team. So yeah, NONE of the ranger teams that lost their powers before had more rangers just willing and able to hop into the brawl against evil for them.

I got to see this when it premiered and loved it so much. Funny enough like a year ago I found a dvd of overdrive to thrift and never got it and it’s like summer where I finally got it. Almost a year. Come to find out it was these episodes on it. Like I almost missed the chance of having it. Glad I have it now

I always loved this team up mainly because I love all Disney era Powers Rangers. 1. I understand why some people had a problem with Thrax, honestly I created my own theory of how he exist ( only able to do this since we weren’t given an exact time when he was sealed). So during turbo while Rita and Zedd was off screen they had a baby but when Divatox got hold of the blue senturion and the future plans of the end of the world…Rita and Zedd sent their baby off in some type of protecting quick aging magic that works just in case they don’t win. So they didn’t win causing Thrax to grow up quickly and with the knowledge of his parents and their history ( tied in with the magic spell). Sentinel Knight catches wind of this ( possibly by Morphin Masters) and seals him away. 2 I always hated the memory erase with SPD X Dino Thunder team up because them fighting in the past or future with either Ranger group won’t have any effects on the future. Time Force teamed up twice in the past and didn’t erase anyone memories. If it was going to be a problem then they shouldn’t destroyed the monsters and erased Mesogog and Elsa mind because I’m pretty sure they watched the battle. 3 I would’ve been cool if Kira and Alpha had a moment since she seen the Ranger tape in her season and Tommy was her mentor.

I personally don’t really like O&R (if I rewatch OO, I Don’t really rewatch it) but it is the second best anniversary. I think a lot of anniversaries after this one kinda pander way too much into MMPR so, it kinda doesn’t make me like them that much. I think you do make a lot of good points, especially seeing why the rangers leave. You can see they do miss each other and the fact they’re willing to help Mack show they care, one of the reason I do rewatch the special. Overall yeah, there was a lot of heart in this special. Sure there are some writing flaws but I think the production here definitely knew how to do an anniversary.

Actually fun fact the real reason JACK wasn’t in the “once a ranger” EP was because him and Emma Lahana (Kira of Dino thunder) were a thing but then broke up before production on the EP started.

The returning rangers are the best part about this story, as you can see where they all are as people during. They also understand the value of teamwork, which is something the overdrive rangers are clearly faced with during the story, but honestly it really doesnt show the overdrive rangers in a good light. The oldens are back and kicking ass, and the rangers just quit and go back to their lives. It shouldnt take a half season and more to figure out what the point of being a ranger is. "The best part of being a ranger is not the power. Its the privallage of helping mankind"

Jungle Fury X OO Rpm X JF We probably didn’t get them because of budget and the number of episodes being cut make wish they just made the team up a special instead of an episode.

Operation Overdrive is NOT my Season, okay? I've never cared for it, and felt as a whole it flopped. Honestly, this 2 parter was always a bit mid for me, I feel because of that. However, your more optimistic take _is_ refreshing. Maybe now that I'm older, I might be able to enjoy it more.

Yeah, I mean I never hated the special, even when watching it in my 20s for the first time. Like, don't get me wrong. Overdrive isn't my favorite, but Linkara acted like it killed his puppy back during the retrospective.

The one and only sin that this team up committed is the overdrive rangers committing the one and only sin of Power Rangers: they give up. And they do this throughout their show. I cannot defend that. And the team up doesn’t do a great job of showing that the team really is trying here at all. And to quote Linkara “thanks jerks. Our heroes everybody”.

They didn’t “give up”. They were quite literally replaced. There’s no reason to still be around when Rangers are put into your positions when you have none. They also said they gave up their own personal lives/careers for it. It would be different if they still had their powers intact, but as i mentioned in the video they were given nothing to do, and were basically just told to sit around in the house while their replacements acted out. If they “gave up”, they would’ve never gone out to retrieve Excelsior on their own admission, which then in turn saved their replacements from getting destroyed. No one told them to do that, they still acted as Power Rangers. Them leaving the mansion to find where they belong or should be, no matter how long it takes is a very human thing. The “they gave up” notion doesn’t make sense to me but i saw you quoted Linkara and ppl have told me that that’s something he must’ve also said. It’s just kind of strange imo

Mack gave up because he couldn't start the Drill driver zord. Dax finding out Miratrix tricked him and he decides to be sad playing pool instead of helping and has to be told to go help. This is what I mean, no power rangers team should just call it quits when stuff doesn't work out because that isn't what the Power Rangers are about. No ranger team before or after them did this. If they lose their powers they didn't care and said "heck no evil will be evil today. Evil will taste my fist power or no power". Even Mega Force as much as most of us did not like their show embodied the never give up attitude regardless if it was generic. If I were the Overdrive rangers I would have stuck around regardless and still did something and the writing of this team up does not paint the Overdrive rangers in a good light at all. No sorry I can't defend them here.

You can’t “quit” something you aren’t actively doing lmao People I think seem to gloss over the fact that Overdrive ran back out to fight almost immediately after their Morphers were destroyed, and that’s when the Legend Rangers showed up. The Earth in context of this two-parter was never in danger more than it was bc Rangers were already put in their place. I think the stigma of this series affects how a lot of people see the Overdrive Rangers, but to each their own

Let's just be clear here! I don't completely hate Overdrive as a Power Rangers season. I agree it is the worst season of the Disney era but I don't agree it's the worst season of all time. But this team up is just solidifying this is a bad season of the franchise.

Honestly, the highlight of the episode is easily the veteran rangers. I honestly felt this episode was to make the Overdrive team look bad, but it does have an interesting concept to have Rita's and Zedd's son. I feel he should have been the main villain in Overdrive. But this episode is why I don't like the Overdrive team very much. We've seen time and time again when the rangers lose their powers, they'll fight to the end, even if it cost them their lives. The Overdrive team on the other hand quits after the veteran rangers "replace" them. My positive about this two parter, I love hearing Johnny, I love hearing Adam's theme for the season, and I love the morphing sequence of the episode. Is it the worse team up? No. Legendary Battle from Megaforce took that position, I just think the two parter's....okay. Not bad but not good either.
