Kind of a poor one when you considered what broken him out of it was social interaction. Even still he didn't have the monetony of 4 blank walls or a room with no clear air or discenerable sounds. What made the punishment of the wall stupid was that TJ was forced to have his nose at a wall...and his friends and others were allowed to come. That same punishment would argubly be worse if she imposed the 30 foot rule. The fact is it still would have worked if that kid didn't walk over to grab the ball which he wasn't even allowed to do. And if the wall punishment came back and no one was allowed to come towards you for 10 mins. You were not allowed to pace or move with your nose stuck to the dirty wall. That would be torture

Sounds good if you’re an adult who has to get their ass up early for work everyday. Hell, you’d probably end up snoozing there for like 3 hrs and not be aware of it. A kid, however......the idea of sleeping for just 10 minutes in the daytime is the last thing they’d ever want to do. Kids always want to stay up and play.

More likely TS 3 got it from the speech in the 1967 film, "Cool Hand Luke". Whilst Recess simplifies the speech, TS 3 is more of a homage. Even someone shouting back "The Box" is homaged by Jessie in TS 3

Hey, I would have loved "The Box" as a kid. I was a quiet kid and most kids were loud and got on my nerves. I was always tired in school, so I just would have taken a nap, meditated, drew, read, whatever. T.J's issue is that he's a claustrophobic extrovert who can't last 10 minutes of quiet and no other kids around. I can see this box only getting to extroverts.

They had something like this at my elementary school, The Room. They'd send you down for misbehaving and you'd be there until the end of the day, it was torture, I remember there was a window though, however, the window is gone now, I can only presume the room is still there, I have no clue if this is still being instituted but it's truly scary to think about.

I find it kind of funny. The thing that made the box work so well was the prevention of people being allowed near it. The wall would have had a similar result if the same 1 week detention rule was applied, possibly worse considering you're forced to stand and stare at nothing.
