Disney's Wish is the latest Disney Animated film to come out and celebrate Disney 100th Anniversary. This is my non-spoiler review of the brand new Disney animated movie Wish! Zach Pope gives his review on why Wish is a great new disney animated movie! Let me know down below on your thoughts for WISH!
#Disneywish #wishmovie #disneywishmoviereview #wishmoviereview #moviereview #disneyanimatedmovie #wishmoviereaction #disneyland #disney
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Wish,” which opens exclusively in theaters on Nov. 22. The trailer introduces 17-year-old Asha, the powerful King Magnifico, Asha’s pet goat Valentino, and Star, a celestial ball of boundless energy that Asha’s wish calls down from the sky. It also features a snippet of the song “This Wish,” performed by Ariana DeBose; it’s one of several new songs written by Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice for the film.
The all-new musical-comedy welcomes audiences to Rosas, a fantastical land located off the Iberian Peninsula. “Our heroine, Asha, lives in Rosas, known as the kingdom of wishes,” said director Chris Buck, who helms the film with Fawn Veerasunthorn. “People come from everywhere to give their wishes to a magical king who promises to grant their deepest desires-someday. Only he can decide which wishes will come true and when.”
Added Veerasunthorn, “We have been inspired by so many iconic films over Disney Animation’s 100 years, especially stories where we explore the power of someone with a wish, combined with the conviction to make that wish come true. Being able to honor that legacy with this incredible story and these amazing characters has been a joy for our entire team.”
ABOUT THE MOVIE
In “Wish,” Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force-a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe-the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico-to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen. Featuring the voices of Academy Award®-winning actor Ariana DeBose as Asha, Chris Pine as Magnifico, and Alan Tudyk as Asha’s favorite goat, Valentino, the film is helmed by Oscar®-winning director Chris Buck (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) and Fawn Veerasunthorn (“Raya and the Last Dragon”), produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) and co-produced by Juan Pablo Reyes (“Encanto”). Jennifer Lee (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) executive produces-Lee and Allison Moore (“Night Sky,” “Manhunt”) are writers on the project. With original songs by Grammy®-nominated singer/songwriter Julia Michaels and Grammy-winning producer/songwriter/musician Benjamin Rice, plus score by composer Dave Metzger, “Wish” opens only in theaters on Nov. 22, 2023.

I know that people had been expecting something really complicated and spectacular for the 100 anniversary, but honestly, I personally loved how they took the other route in making something simple and sweet that mimics more of their original style of storytelling: creating a classic fairy tale. It is basically telling all who grew up watching Disney that it is still okay to look back on the happiness of your childhood, even as an adult. Apparently a lot of people couldn't get that.

I loved this movie too! I didn't care what others said about it. I just went to the theater with my family and friends and we all loved it. The new character, the story, the animation, etc. We all loved it! We laughed and we cried, and we watched it until the last second of the end credits to enjoy Asha's grandfather playing "When You Wish Upon a Star" song. Such a beautiful movie!!!!

This movie is like vanilla ice cream. Yes, I know that "vanilla" is literally synonymous with "uninteresting and bland," but I will still willingly eat a bowl of vanilla ice cream and enjoy every bit of it because I need it sometimes! I don't care if Wish is "simplistic" and "too naively hopeful." You know what other movie is both of those things by today's standards? The original Disney Snow White, and recently people are rediscovering the hidden joy of that film! Both Wish and Snow White have noticeable flaws, but "flawed" is not equivalent to "bad." Personally I feel this movie is actually more genius than people give it credit for, but I don't think I could accurately explain why in a KZbin comment. Bottom line, Wish is harmless hopeful fun and I will always treasure it 😊

After only seeing thumbnails of negative reviews, I finally got to see Wish for myself & I loved it!!! I'm just so sad those negative thumbnails ruined the experience for me & spoiled the movie. Wish is the most beautiful 3d animated film I've ever seen. It even rivals my favorite 2d film, Sleeping Beauty, as I've always felt let down by the scenery in other 3d films. I really wish I had been able to see it in theaters before the jaded reviewers spoiled everything. I didn't even watch any of their reviews, but the abundance of those gosh darn negative thumbnails seemed inescapable. I had to specifically search for 'positive Wish reviews' to even find reviewers like you. Thank you for posting this. I really needed to hear from someone who appreciates this film.

Thank you for bringing to light the magic this movie instills. This movie is truly able to capture your emotions of hope, love, and solidarity. The music is absolutely stunning. They really took the vocals to places I didn’t expect them to go within the song. At all costs is definitely the most magical song I have heard in a Disney movie in a very long time, and I find that you can apply the lyrics to so many different aspects of life from your passions, to your relationships, to your children, etc. Thank you for reflecting on the appreciation of the art/creativity of the movie. While it also took me a moment to adjust to art style, I appreciate how much thought and creativity must have gone into the animation which in the end really lent to that beautiful story book feel. I have to agree with others in the comments about the audience clapping at the end. I watched this movie twice in theaters now and both times the theater clapped at the end of the movie. And both times I teared up at the end! Haha. This was a great holistic review! Thank you ❤

Same. Makes no sense, especially if the movie is doing poorly in the box office then how does everyone that hates it know that it's bad if they didn't see it? I used to hate Wish, but I've never exactly seen it, I jumped on the hate train. Then, it finally came out on Disney+ assuming it'll be bad, and I changed my mind. Wish is an incredible movie, it's incredibly humorous. However, the only real criticism I'll say upon watching is that Magnifico is not that serious, especially with his villain song.

the thing is... the movie is kinda mid ngl, not saying you can´t enjoy it but it just feels like there was sooo much potential but then just wasted. magnifico could´ve been an interesting villian but then they threw it out of the bucket with the "magic makes him even more evil!". there was no reason to reveal his secret to aisha, the star (who´s supposed to grant wishes) only makes animals talk and heal some plants? the deer was kust there as comic relief and the message isn´t clear, instead of needing magic to grant your wish why dont you do it yourself? but nooo. idk its not the worst (some people exaggerate) but it def was dissapointing

I actually liked Wish too, despite of I understand most of the often criticized points, like that Ashas arc is more flat and she does not need to overcome typical weaknesses of modern protagonists or the questions about the plot why people giving Magnifico their wishes in first place or the exchange of star boy love story for 'just' star and so on ... I somehow felt everything of these were very intentional to give the viewer a specific experience and room for own thoughts on *their* maybe wishes and feelings about the themes, without too many captivating distractions in the movie itself ... and I really love the watercolor art style

something i see from all the people who have such vitriol for this movie that i dont understand is that people keep saying magnifico was a hero, even going as far as saying asha was the villain all along. there is a misconception that she wanted EVERY wish granted and that is what made her angry at magnifico. this is not true. when magnifico says that he doesnt grant every wish, she simply suggests that he can just give the wishes back to allow the people to make the wish come true themselves. because when you give magnifico your wish, you forget that wish, the wish you wanted to come true so badly. this is shown in the movie when she tries to tell her grandfather his wish because he cannot remember what it was after so many years. asha simply just wanted people to still have a chance to pursue their dreams if not magically granted by a powerful sorcerer. wish may have some flaws but this is an aspect i will always defend

@ZachPopeReviews: I'm glad you enjoyed this film. I have been nothing but skeptical since the moment that promotional landed. I was skeptical about the animation and I know nothing can ever top Across the Spider-Verse in terms of animation ever. However, I'm sure it had a distinct vibe of its own that when I watched the film this weekend, I'll feel something from it. I love Disney films of the Renaissance and some of the older ones. I mostly enjoy the Renaissance one's the most and don't get the most enjoyment out of films like Frozen etc. I love Tangled and The Princess and the Frog but that's only because of the Randy Newman musical score and songs that gave off a distinct vibe. I've seen some clips of this film, the animation looks better than the promotionals. make it look. Something tells me that this film has combination of every Disney film ever, including the older ones. The fives of every Disney villain and Asha carries the vibes of every Disney princess rolled into one. They turned her into an activist type character because it fit the story better and also managed to match up well with what some of the later films did like Frozen. Let me know your thoughts on this. Do you believe this is their intention?

The villain got blinded by his trauma, ego and the corruption of the book. At the end it reminded me of A Bug's Life when they all stood up against the evil authoritarian cult-like king member

Its like lighting an firework and it doesn't go off. If it was just marketed as an normal disney movie it would have been less dunked on. In addition it was just low effort. It felt like the story was still on the drawingboard, the animation was decent. And its lesson didn't make sense. I feel like if more love and money was put in it this movie could have been great. I want to keep an open mind so that when I do see, I’m not swayed one way or the other too much. I was excited to see Frozen (a few months after it came out) because of all the hype and the Let It Go Song sounded awesome… but I was terribly disappointed in the movie itself (from a story telling & character development perspective- that’s a whole other can of beans). So when the movie brags “from the creators of frozen”, I’m hesitant. I do hope Wish is a good movie.

If you actually liked this movie - I am glad for you. Unfortunately, we took our clan ( 6 grandkids, our 3 boys and daughter, and my wife's mother and father ) and had ages ranging 12-72 , all my wife and I wanted was a nice "family" outing after eating to much food. 15 minutes into the movie the younger kids were already bored and snapping pop corn at each other. My youngest son who is an adult had his phone out , my daughter fell asleep - my oldest grand daughter summed it up when I asked her what she thought after it was over; she said "meh". So 14 tickets , soda and popcorn/candy was almost $300 - I can pay for a year of two streaming service with $300 and it was utterly wasted on this, and its supposed to be the 100th anniversary movie ? Next year we go mini-golf - will likely be much more entertaining. Wish earned the 47% rating from the critics.

People hated this movie for the same reasons they hated Hunchback of Notredam: it's too rebelious! Great writing challenges us and speaks truth to power! Wish is especially relevant right now-the government ran like a cult by a leader who steals people's dreams and acts like he's doing them a favor? It strikes at the heart of something many American children are experiencing right now! Feeling their community is like a cult, and like their dreams are being stolen... It's revolutionary!

IF ONLY the critics raving against this movie would apply the same standard to Frozen, they could be tolerably heard. But they are almost exclusively a bunch of whiners who can’t make anything themselves, but understand (as Ego explained in “Ratatouille”) that bitter criticism is easy to write and fun to read. Yeah, but it’s really not fun to read this time. A bunch of REALLY hollow criticism about nothing. It’s like when you ask the cool kids why they hate so-n-so, and they're like, “if you need us to tell you why then you’re not cool, get lost loser”. Yeah, Wish WAS great, and so was Elemental, and I’m not even rooting for Disney. The critics are simply sacrificing their credibility for temporary volume on KZbin. Ask any of the haters WHAT specifically did they not like, and it will be either a nothing answer, or it will be a trivial high-concept gripe that can be reduced to nothing more than their own contentious preferences.

Everyone always has complained that Disney movies teach kids that if they wish really hard (especially on a star) their wish will come true- which has never happened in any Disney film. They may wish on the star, but they always have to work hard to make their wish come true. 4. Deer was comic relief- valid. That was annoying, especially since they named him Bambi. If you're gonna name him after one of your classics then make him the regal Prince of the Forest, not a dumby. 5. Message isn't clear- see #3. It's a great plot about corporate world, or if you're younger, about what idealizing pop idols does to you. Or again, it could be about Disney fans who grew up disappointed feeling like they were cheated, and this movies shows how they could have misunderstood the message. You can relate to the story from different points of view. It's definitely a good metaphore for work advancement situations, to me. Music is super. Only thing I didn't like is Asha's body animation, which I think was recycled from other characters sequences in previous movies. The evil guy seems animated much better and more originally. Color palette may not be small kids cup of tea, as it is not hyper bright, but rather sandy-purple-blue. It's not my favorite color pallette but it is something particular for this movie. I really liked the movie and watched it twice. Music is super, story intriguing. It cannot top Tangled, for me, personally. But it definitely tops frozen and tens of other things.

1. "I Will Protect You", "This Wish" and its reprisal, "This Is The Thanks I Get", and "A Wosh Worth Making" were all good, very memorable (A Wish Worth Making in particular for me was amazing because it reminded me of the Broadway type credit songs we got back in renaissance). "Welcome to Rosas" and "Knowing What I Know Now" are a bit mid true, especially with Welcome to Rosas vs The Family Madrigals. "I Am A Star" is validly bad. 2. Valentino wasn't helpful- valid. Wasn't funny- eh, sometimes he came up with a funny line ("I cannot swim" and "Shark" got some big laughs from my theater). Though yeah, most of the time he wasn't all that funny. Could've also not used the deeper voice than expected joke. 3. Asha's friends- except for Dalhia and Simon, understandable. I even had a hard time remembering their names. Don't understand the visceral hatred towards their nod to the 7 Dwarves though. 4. Magnifico becomes a villain out of nowhere- he's paranoid that something bad will happen again, thus why he's picky in which wish to grant. However, I would've further explained that why he didn't want to return the wishes was that if he did then people wouldn't come to him to grant them. A bit more writing would've fleshed him out better. 5. Gotcha covered. The moral was: One should always work hard to achieve their deepest wishes/goals/dreams instead of taking the easy road and relying on others to make it happen for them. 6. Yay, glad you liked the animation!

Magnifico acted really menacingly towards his subjects just for asking questions and after starts suddenly singing about how they are so ungreatful and comes up with reasons why he is the best and they are the worst. Thats why the song has (when taken out of context) stupid lyrics like "i let you live here for free and i dont even charge you rent" its SUPPOSED TO BE OBVIOUSLY WRONG BECAUSE THATS HOW WARPED THE KINGS VIEW OF HIS REIGN IS.He cant even come up with valid reasons to undermine these questions, thats how a narcissist thinks and its a good villain song depicting that

@@elviiralehtonen1604 Ok yea i get that, thing is this might turn into a lot of writing no one usually really wants to read but i’ll try and keep it as brief as possible. I’ll start with ‘This Is The Thanks I Get’. There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying the song but one does have to recognize its fundamental flaws, one of which being the lyricism. I understand you reading into the lyric “I let you live here for free and I don’t even charge you rent” as a way to represent his decline, however a mental decline in lyrics should never be done with a redundancy but instead with discontinuity. A redundancy can occur in many songs however I have yet to see it occur all in the same line. Using discontinuity instead to represent a character going insane is much clearer in that sense. I will use the example of ‘Hellfire’ from Hunchback of Notre Dame. ‘Hellfire’ has a line in the beginning that establishes the point of the entire song “Beata Maria, you know I'm so much purer than, The common, vulgar, weak, licentious crowd. Then tell me, Maria, why I see her dancing there? Why her smoldering eyes still scorch my soul?” This is a fantastic representation of a discontinuity. He believes he is a perfect human in the eyes of God however he is admittedly committing one of the 7 deadly sins. Henceforth, throughout the rest of the song he is arguing with the angels and justifying his actions. This discontinuity of him being able to talk back to God already however has been established within these first lyrics because he believes he is perfect enough to speak or argue with God’s will. By the end he has come up with an ultimatum for Esmerelda, finally laying in on the discontinuity of him being righteous. He says “But she will be mine or she will burn” which is simply a complete disregard of his sin and not only threatening to lust but also threatening to murder out of lust. This shows mental decline. In the beginning questioning his actions most literally asking Maria why this is happening to him, then by the end fully embracing his sin while still not changing his belief that he is righteous and good. That idea of him believing he’s perfect to this level makes it clear why he feels he can do all the things he proceeds to do such as genocide. In that sense it is similar to Magnifico, since he also believes he is good and deserves all the best. However he believes he’s good because honestly he does deserve the best. He literally does let everyone live there for free, he provides them with their greatest desire and only hinders those that could be dangerous. His reasons are too justifiable, a listener should be put off by the villain's morality, or in some cases, recognize that the villain is trying to manipulate a character; this is true for villain songs like Mother Knows Best and Poor Unfortunate Souls where we can tell that the character is getting manipulated but we can still understand by the methods of which the manipulation is occurring we would too be cornered. However ‘This Is The Thanks I Get’ is a soliloquy so I would like to only use examples of that. I could break down every lyric one by one but I don't believe I would be allowed enough of a word count in a comment, so I will contain myself and cover one last topic. The idea of musicality. ‘This Is The Thanks I Get’ has been ridiculed for its blatant pop inspiration and use of peppy backing vocals. I find I actually understand what they were trying to do with this but it was done in a very bad way. Most if not all classic villain songs contain some form of the regular songs in the movie. For example the use of mostly only percussion and choirs to push the melody in lion king for ‘Circle of Life’ and ‘I Just Can't Wait To Be King’. The same instrumentation is used for the song ‘Be Prepared’. It uses the prior songs and creates a darkness to them not only allowing it to fit into the songs feel during a soundtrack listen through but also to display the dark side of the world being depicted. ‘This Is The Thanks I Get’ could have done this but instead the song is almost more peppy in its musicality. The “Do” ‘s aren't a recurring motif that he taints with his evil deeds, it's added in this song and only this song and their addition drives home how poppy it is. Side note, I would like to add how much I hate the melodic representation in the song. It is alright for a character to speak lines in their song but there is really no melody until the chorus. It is essentially reduced to a rap with bad lyrics, but I digress there is my argument.

Actually, fries contain plenty of substances, including carbohydrates, fats, salts and proteins. Did you think they were hollow from the inside? So, you see, they are quite "substantial" in human diet occasionally. Unless of course you are one of those people who were raised on lobster and black caviar. On a more serious note, of course this movie is no Shakespeare and no Citizen Kane. It just seems to be an entertaining family popcorn animated musical blockbuster to enjoy for a couple of hours and have fun. On that it seems to deliver, especially when it comes to the music. Of course the score is no Tchaikovski but it sounds great for its genre.

@@r.downgrade5836 Is it at all fulfilling to attempt to be witty and fail miserably? Especially with such blatantly inaccurate statements which are not even funny? And is it fulfilling to pretend that one has superior tastes than others and pick on others for loving a harmless family movie just because it is not high art or a cultural milestone? Do not complain. You asked for it. Learn to show respect for the reviewer's opinion and avoid scorn. Also, nothing in my statement was a lie. Your metaphor just doesn't work.

The premise sounds dumb. Why give away your wishes if you won’t be able to remember what they were? Couldn’t people just work toward making their wish come true? Seems nonsensical.

I completely agree. I recently unsubscribed from this chanel because i cannot fathom how this guy has good things to say about modern disney, star wars, etc. To place a generic crap disney movie like Wish over Napolean,is blasphemy even for the most amateur movie critic.

No…..they’re not. Yes, you have the “freedom” to see whatever movie you want, but that freedom and “who” movies are targeted to are mutually exclusive. As a parent, I would find it extremely odd seeing a grown man attend movies such as Wish on his own. Perhaps the problem is you! Perhaps you need to grow up and realize your childhood ended, sometime ago. Perhaps you need to come to the realization that you’re an adult and as such need to face the harsh realities of adulthood and stop avoiding them by immersing yourself in the Disney-verse that was designed for children. In other words, get off KZbin and GROW UP!!!!

@@Sparta-tf8bgi assume you went to youtube to search for a Wish review, weren't satisfied and finally found this video, only to complain that it was made by an adult who has the Know-how to edit and upload a Video, and has the maturity to not be biased with his content. Do you want 13 year olds (youtubes access age) to make Reviews? They are not children btw, they're teens and their reviews will be biased. Disney makes movies for the the whole family because parents (adults) also need to enjoy them because they have the money to buy the tickets and the toys.
