⁠@@GraterstuufSony never tried. Sony and Nintendo just had a partnership that went bad, for CD add-on for the SNES to compete with the Sega CD. It was basically the precursor to the PlayStation. The contract was bad as Nintendo looked over it and didn't like a certain condition, I believe Sony slipped in some condition where all of Nintendo's came to be made for the disc add-on were to be owned by Sony or some crazy s*** like that. So at CES the year they were supposed to unveil it Nintendo announced instead they were cutting the deal with Sony and going with Phillips instead, which is how the Phillips CDI with those weird Zelda games became a thing. Sony was embarrassed by this, it was all Ken Kutaragi's idea as the higher ups at Sony wanted nothing to do with the video game market, seeing game consoles as children's toys. Ken Kutaragi was insistent on salvaging the project and making something out it, he insisted and Sony have him the go ahead and that's how we got PlayStation. Nintendo did laugh Microsoft out of the room though. Also fun fact. Silicon Graphics the company that came up with the technology that would become the N64 actually went to Sega first to see if they wanted it, Sega said no and suggested that Silicon Graphics take it to Nintendo. And the rest is history. Sega of America actually wanted to go with it, but Sega of Japan had the final call and said no.

Mally has the whole Iger/Chapek thing backwards. Early on the insiders said Chapek was a horrible choice, mostly because he wasn't on friendly terms with the creatives. But it came out that Iger was sabotaging Chapek from the start. He wanted to use Chapek to rule from the shadows but Chapek didn't want to be a puppet. So for the sake of his own ego Iger engineered Chapek's firing to take credit for Chapek's sucesses. For proof listen to the KZbin Channels, Midnight's Edge, or That Park Place. They discussed this in detail. Or do a quick bit of research on your own and look at the stock price during Chapek's reign from when he shook off Iger's influence to the day he was ousted. It did nothing but rise, and the day after Chapek was fired it fell and has never recovered.

The 'master class', the books, the press conferences, everything. The man reportedly undermined Chapek (also a poor choice) at every move (he was clearly to be the patsy from day one). But he did that. He also blocked Peltz as much as he could despite it clearly being better for the company. He hasn't fulfilled his fiduciary duty, I don't think he is even competent enough to do so. If he ever wanted out he could have just left.

Nintendo would rather dissolve as a company before they would be bought. Even at their lowest point, they probably wouldn't sell. And if they ever did, it would be to another Japanese company first and foremost although the likelihood would be more of a merger than an outright sale. Especially now, trying to buy them would be a fool's errand as they have so much money in reserve and in different holdings that they could literally lose hundreds of millions and millions of dollars over the course several years and still be financially solvent. They've been around since the 18th century so I'm pretty sure they'll last a bit longer as an independent company.
