Of course they haven’t. Journalists are lazy. Especially today, when you can copy your talking points from chatter you read online and Disney’s press feed.

It's historical and anti racist, that's why current administration shut it down. They don't want people to be educated. The media pushes racism, no suprise they would want to remove anti racism history, such as Dr. Suess (also was canceled by administration).

The marxists won. They will keep dividing and demoralizing our society until everything good is destroyed. Splash Mountain and Song of South were not racist at all. In fact, the marxists have destroyed the legacy of James Baskett and the other actors and actresses in that movie. Not to mention one of the most beloved songs in our nations history Zipa deedoodah! Iger and Ken Potrock are complete failures for allowing this to happen.

Splash mountain isn't racist. Song of the south wasn't even racist. It was Disney's clumsy attempt at making an anti racist movie that wouldn't offend anyone, but the leader of the NAACP Walter F. White (a guy who was barely black at all, he passed as white) had a hate boner for black actors like Hattie McDaniel and James Baskett whom he saw as "race traitors." He and the NAACP smeared song of the south relentlessly, saying that it depicted slaves as happy (it was set after the civil war, so those were newly freed people) so disney never released it on home video. Splash mountain is just based on the animated segments which were ACTUAL AFRICAN AMERICAN FOLK TALES. So actual African American heritage is being erased in favor of a movie that was written by two white guys and one black guy. So a precious piece of Black Americana and people's childhoods is being destroyed, all because some slacktivists want to feel like they are making the world a better place.

You can compare it to that Jurassic park ride that’s breaking at universal. Splash was a masterclass not only from ride design, but the fact these animatronics still worked so well in 2023; even though it was blatantly obvious it wasn’t maintained since the Princess and the frog announcement.

I would love to go back in time to the 1989 opening or 1959 expansion Disneyland was cool for so many years. The lack of maintaing rides, they are all a step down from former glory as well nothing has really ever been improved because they arent maintaing there attractions and there going woke where there are less people and are pissing people off since the majority are tired of being preached too.

I love this ride.. and I recently saw Song of the South, where I found absolutely nothing whatsoever that was racist or offensive... certainly not enough to BAN it from Disney Plus! By all means, put up a disclaimer... How can we learn from history if Disney woke wash everything? Now, the ride is gone too. Swept under the rug. Ridiculous. Enjoy needlessly spending the money you need to save Disney! Idiotic.

i see no reason to black wash a ride that had no human characters black or white in it. i've never seen the song of the south and have never met any who had or correlated this ride to that movie. a simple refresh would seem more logical however Disney seems to have endless amounts of money just not mine anymore.

To those who saw this ride as racist because of the movie it was themed after let me ask you guys an honest question. How do you feel about Pirates of the Caribbean? I mean you guys are upset with splash mountain because of the racial movie (which was a very common style in the 40’s by the way) but a ride themed after pirates? You know what kind of people pirates were right? Shoot it even shows it on the ride with death and destruction. Now please don’t get me wrong I DO NOT want Pirates of the Caribbean to be re-themed (though the woke snowflakes already did get to it a bit but) it’s one of my favorite slow paced rides in the park. I’m just trying to make a point that it seems those who were offended by a ride (with absolutely nothing racist in it, just with what it’s tied too) but are totally fine with a ride themed after pirates (and does depict their destructive ways in the ride but at least it has a catchy song to it)

The theming is a huge part of what makes Disney rides so special. Each ride tells a story. When you take that theming away, it becomes a completely different ride. Besides, Splash Mountain does not contain the parts of the movie that people deemed offensive. It only contains the three cartoon segments that are based on genuine African folk tales.

this is needed and it was time. Has Disney publicly admitted fault or started conversations about why the ride was thematically insensitive, or is it all just about looking forward to 'bringing new stories' with 'diverse casts!' I feel like everything I see from the company does not acknowledge why it needed to be changed. I appreciate that this story is not a press release regurgitation.
@markx1126

Is history insensitive? Is African American culture insensitive? The ride itself has nothing insensitive, and promotes stories from African American folklore that would otherwise be forgotten. Cultural preservation is a good thing. As for the film, the only real criticism is that it doesn’t depict all white Southerners as cartoon villains.
