Love your channel. Got a DISO Plus DLX myself, Pinstripe is the truth and Charlie was so gracious in his explaining the difference between a line isolator and something that may already have balanced outs. Also, I definitely notice the output bump. BTW, not to open a can a worms but couldn't help but notice that your Input Trim is +8.5 on the Tonex One's. I've been reworking volume and trim levels on my own Tonex One set up. You probably have seen the number of vids out there from some legit great channels (even recently), some are really adamant about setting input trim around -4, -3, maybe even 0, while others are still in the +8 range. Curious if for you, that choice of +8.5 is something your hearing in your ears tonally, or just trying to get more output? Ahh came back after finishing the video and noticed something else. Not sure if every capture is the same, but I noticed a little high pitch whining sound in the background which is something I am also experiencing...and if memory serves me right, not sure that the gate is catching that. I can only bring it down with the volume knob

Thanks my friend!! And regarding Input Trim, I'm all ears. Send those videos explaining that if you can find them. I set mine at 8.5 because that's where my big box ToneXs are set and, more importantly, at that 8.5 the captures were most identical to the real amp when capturing. Of course if I backed down the input trim that much I'd have to CRANK the Gain, and even then, on some of my captures, it may not be enough to get back to an EOB level. I've not noticed much digital clipping at 8.5 either. But perhaps there's some digital compression that could be unwanted. Again, I'm up for the learning journey.

@@thetoneshepherd Trust the ears is right! I rewatched Jason's recent video, and I think it's more relevant when using Tonex as an interface, but some of the same principles apply. I put the TSR video in as well, more about when switching guitars, but he runs the input gain higher. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4SbfKOKpc6Ba6s kzbin.info/www/bejne/gn3SZ4SAYrl0d6s kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIbHh2iwg9Sef8k

Dude, this first video ruled. Thanks a ton! I've actually known for some time that Input Trim and Gain do the exact same thing, I've posted about it a bit. But the db diagram that @JasonSadites posted regarding Trim vs. Gain was clutch! I think knowing that, there's a really good case to be made to keep your Trim low enough to never hit "Red" just to ensure you're far from any digital clipping and simply bump the Gain up. Since I like to run the Trim at 8.5 and the Gain at 0 on my captures, I could technically afford to set the Trim at -3.5 and turn the Gain up to 10. Although I'm sure simply setting the Trim to 0 and the Gain to 8 would work the same and still be far from clipping. Thanks again for the insight!

How to fix the phase issue due to latency difference between each one? Does phase (Comb Filtering) even matter if in stereo and each amp panned 100% left and 100% right? Great video regarding polarity btw! Would be nice if the IR’s were labeled when buying these. (normal vs inverted)
@thetoneshepherd22 күн бұрын
@@B0ssMan1 A tiny bit of comb filtering matters a lot less when hard panning for sure. So long as those two amps are at the very least in "polarity" with each other, the slight "phasiness" between the amps is usually ok.

Thank you for the reply. Keep up the excellent work. Not many people explain this issue as clear as you did on this video. Keep it coming 👍🏼

You’re video came at the perfect time. I’m building my pedalboard and had some many questions about what line isolators are and if they’re even worth it! Thanks!

This is pretty much a straight upgrade from my Walrus Audio Canvas Stereo. I like mine, but I want to be able to upgrade to two modelers and with that this one would crush!
@thetoneshepherd2 ай бұрын
100% would crush! I've had both and, to me, the DISO wins easily in terms of sound quality and build quality!

Awesome vid man! Love the info! Have you tried comparing the Quad Cortex XLR outputs vs the QC 1/4" outs + DISO? Curious if there's a difference!
@thetoneshepherd2 ай бұрын
Great question! Just did the test. QC with volume knob at 100: XLR Outs (-12db) 1/4" Outs to DISOxo (-6db) I made sure both the XLR Outs and Outs 3/4 on the QC were both set to 0db as well. So the DISOxo lets the QC put out ~6db more volume. Good to know!
@KawikaBader2 ай бұрын
@@thetoneshepherd Wow! That's really interesting! Thanks for testing that out!
@thetoneshepherd2 ай бұрын
No prob! Easy test! But I'm not sure 6db is worth redoing your setup for. You could easily just boost the output in the hardware settings to get it to that volume. IF volume is all you need. But I've heard others swear that it sounds better going out of the 1/4" outs into a DISO. They could be right, but if it does have a sonic benefit, it's not radically apparent to my ears.

I am coming out of the big sky last (HX Stomp and then big sky last). Would it make more sense to have a line isolator or direct box?

Does it happen to sum to mono for those times you can't get two lines to the board?
@thetoneshepherd2 ай бұрын
It does not sum to mono. They couldn't cram it all in there since they left the same Jensen transformers as in the larger box DISO+. But in my experience, just running out of one side of a stereo signal is more clear than summing to mono.

I have the original DISO+. Is it worth it to swap it out for this one? Using 2x ToneXs
@thetoneshepherd2 ай бұрын
If the original works for you there's no need to get this one. This is just smaller. And it doesn't have 1/4" outs. This will be great for anyone with space issues though!!

Same Jensen transformers as the DISO+, just a smaller black box!
