Velma gets officially renewed by HBO Max for season 2, which we already knew because it was done before the series was even released. But at least now we know they're not cancelled it due to crowd response. With some hoping for cancellation, I'm glad we got a season 2 because every new series exposes how Hollywood sees it's customers. And them desperately trying to work out why they're burning money without realising it's actually them causing it will always remain funny. For me, I'll continue to get my entertainment laughing at Hollywood. But what do you think about the renewal? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

Whats the message even? I wanna ask the writers that. What are you trying to tell me? That white is privileged, by showing the only white main character be the focus of all the suffering? That being a male is privilege, by showing every male character as a simp, incompetent and completely dominated by females? That being an Indian in the states is hard, by showing her to be the worst person imaginable to every one around her and still getting all she wants? Please, what are you trying to tell us, writers
@vincentgraymore

One thing that these people fail to understand is that good shows do have messages. Things like strive for happiness in your life, cherish those around you, be a better friend, etc or life is horrible regardless of what you do, people never really change, etc. It is just that the messages they want to send is simply not what the audience wants. Regardless of the polarity, the message has to resonate, and the ones they push does not.

The article does not say that SHE said anything about a second season of "Velma." A lot of studios have continued to work on projects, hoping to get them renewed, only to see them get cancelled. It looks as if "Velma" was cancelled back on 18JAN2023; and they are going by Screen Rant's article (which cited non-existent EIDR "Velma" second season entries, which were likely deleted on 18JAN2023). The numbers innevitably dropped off significantly, after the first episode (the only one that is free to view, and is the touted premiere episode). Mindy Kaling, also, would not miss the opportunity to tout the approval of a second season. In addition, she deleted all but one of her tweets, which had to do with the show. Also, the studio still has to answer to David Zazlov. Mark my words, unless something drastic happens (like a high-up source is QUOTED), this fecal fire is not getting an aired second season.

I noticed that too about the EIDR, that there's no actual season 2 listed. The link I saw on one of the access media sites (movieweb, iirc) led to Velma season 1 episode 2 rather than to Velma season 2. It's only been the access media talking about the "renewal"- I still haven't seen HBO actually come out and say there is one. The closest to it was when it was stuck at the bottom of that article, which as you said was not a part of a quote. I did notice in the article that Mindy Kaling is on tap to make a new show for Amazon- indicating they're not planning to continue Velma, whether before or after s2.

@@marychocolatefairy True, studios don't generally let their "talent" be contracted out to other studios, while they still have a contract with them. Since, Warner Brothers and Amazon are separate, Warner Brothers is likely not keeping her on. Some people have been allowed to work on dual projects; but is extremely rare and only kept within the same studio. Since she is not just a voice actor on "Velma," gives even ore credibility to what you said.

As a member of Goodreads since 2013, I can add an additional reason why bad stories get a second and even third seasons (because some writers say as much when they get bad reviews). “You just don’t understand the book.” And thus a second season must be made so they can make you understand it better. As if the overall, underneath, and subliminal messaging will be worth the shoddy writing. IT IS THE MESSAGE (content) that’s the problem. And no matter what you say, just like those American Idol audition people, they won’t take criticism or advice that goes against their narcissistic and myopic views of themselves and talent. Just saying.

Goodreads had such potential, but the site has been commandeered by narcissist authors and their equally awful fans - interestingly, most people in both groups are affluent, feminist millennial and older zoomer white women with occasional "intersectional" allies. I quit after a friend of mine completely vanished from the site after calling out a BLM Disney author for her racism against white and Asian authors.

@@Peryite_the_Platypus I am not a 'superfan' though. I've seen the original cartoon series, but haven't seen anything about Scoony Do that has aired after 1992. I'm not sure about the amount of knowledge the author of the article has. It could actually be more than I have. I think a way to highlight all that is wrong with this show, is to compare it to WEDNESDAY. Both series have a lot in common, including the problems, with a female lead who thinks of themselves as an investigator - and isn't particularly good at it. Yet Wednesday is very much liked and is widely successful. IMO it seems to be down to the fact that the main protagonist isn't utterly insufferable, the supporting characters are likable, the story does keep moving, and despite many issues, the story mostly works in an understandable way. Then, you have Velma...

Well I guess Mindy Velma can't complain in her second season because she got everything she complained about in the first season. she was given a second season for doing a show that absolutely no one wanted and no one watched and no one thought was funny. If those aren't reparations for whatever perceived slights she feels like life has given her despite the fact she's always been successful I don't know what it is.

They probably internally allocated money for the second season considerably earlier than they publicly announced it, likely in production of season 1. It makes more sense to announce it between seasons as it'll make more of an impact that way. I'm sure it's probably been in production for months now.

As a wise commenter once said. This show is the reason why the Anime and Manga industries are booming. More are turning to anime and manga rather than comics and movies. There is no woke agenda with anime and manga. Bc unlike movies and TV shows. They're from one person. A singular artist or author which is then published by manga company such as JUMP and then a studio comes along and asks to make it an anime. But in the end it all rebounds on the author. And these guys have over thirty years of their lives invested in one series. He'll Arakis one of the oldest mangakas authors bc he started JoJo back in 1987. And it has stayed Agenda Free for over 35 years. If you love your work. Don't let it be tainted. Tell a good story and people will love the hell out of it. Do it with hate and you'll get hate in return.

Cynical shows and movies have been very successful throughout all of TV and Movie history. The issue isn't being cynical. It is the sourness and near hate that is the real issue at play here. Velma herself has always been a cynical character. Using wit and logic. Now she is not cynical, instead she is malicious and spiteful. I'll take logical cynicism over malicious spite every single time. As will most other people in the world. It also doesn't help that shows like Velma are made for a very, very small group of people. Less than 10% of the potential audience.
