Velma episode 9 review of the Scooby Doo animation adaptation for HBO Max. Velma is supposedly a re-imagining of the Scooby Doo cartoon. But as Velma looks after a baby to try and get her mothers memory back, how much of that has stayed the same? Fred and Daphne go through some school drama and Norville continues to be an unknown character that's not Shaggy. Is Velma worth watching?

Velma Episode 9 review, (not sure why I said episode 7 at the start I only JUST noticed as I type). Luckily, I did upload the right video! This was one strange episode where Velma lies to pretend she's just as horrible a person as she always was. You'd think that would be easy but it turns out, she's got far worse over time and blamed it on everyone else. But with one episode left, who do you think is the killer? I say think because even though the finale episode is out, I'm assuming most people havn't seen it lmao. But as always, thanks for watching this one :)

Her mother is the equivalent of a deadbeat dad but gets lots of passes for her behavior. She is gaslighting and so is Velma. Blames the man even though she was an alcoholic? Walked out on her family? Like her father said Velma was an unwanted daughter by her mother and that gets casually skipped over. She doesn't get to complain in that situation. A plot point is invented so they have to be nice to her (keep her happy)even though she left a man to raise their daughter by himself yet he is made out to be a villain for moving on. They are essentially saying she gets to walk back into her old life and bitch about her husband not wanting to be with the slob that she is. Such reprehensible characters in this

So the whole point of those murders was to give Fred a new brain. Let's make a bullet point of everything that doesn't make sense with this plan. - If the point is to make Fred smarter why still the brains of teenage girls? The girls aren't some kind of geniuses, they're hot and by extension presumably dumb according to the show. Why not still the brain of some CEO? They clearly have connections with people like that. Is the joke supposed to be that anyone would be smarter than Fred? - If she has the ability to hypnotize people why doesn't she hypnotize Fred into being a perfect CEO? - If Fred's parents are so adamant about him inheriting the company and being a manly man why did they start just now? Shouldn't they have been preparing him since he was born? You know, making him go to a special school with extra classes, hiring private teachers, making him do extra activities like all kinds of sports, etc. Stereotypical rich kid stuff. Fred is very obedient and wants to do everything to please his parents. He can at least try. According to the show he totally changed after reading just one book on feminism. Make him read something useful! - Fred's mom better not pull this feminist bullshit. She killed innocent girls because she didn't raise her son properly. I bet the writers were patting themselves on the back. ''Everybody expects that the killer will be a white straight male but it is actually a white straight lady. Aren't we so subversive?'' - If people retain their memory even in a different body, how else would Fred be smarter, and that's what Fred's mom's comment to Velma alludes to, what's stopping whoever will be in Fred's body from telling the truth? The possibilities of rich white male privilege? - Why kill all these girls? Shouldn't she immediately make a switch as soon as she got the first brain? Or was she not satisfied with the brains she got and went on hunting until she finds the one she likes? In that case, she should've gotten to know the people before she murdered them for nothing and potentially incriminated herself. Held some competition or a test and attack the winner or something.

The funniest thing to me is in the second last episode. they pick up a diagram on how to extract brains but replace it in other people. And that's the mystery. Anyone who is kidnapped can at some point have been the killer, meaning that they have unwittingly had their minds removed and replaced with that of the killer, only to have their minds placed back in later and a foggy memory. Now the sketch was such a dead giveaway I feel that the artists put it in there as a middle finger to the writers.

I never understood the 'high school popularity' things you see in teen-themed tv shows over and over. That wasn't really a thing in my school. Sure, there were little groups here and there, but sometimes I wonder if any of the people writing those scripts and storylines ever actually went to a public high school and didn't just read about it from someone else that's also never been to a public high school. Either that or the school I went to was just really laid back.

In the 70's we had cliques in high school like the jocks & cheerleaders (popular kids), the nerds and the stoners but none of them acted like that to people. We all got along really well when we were all together in classes, at lunch, etc. The teasing and name calling had ended by the time we got out of junior high. I should know since I was one of the people being called names like 4 eyes, toothpick, Bionic Woman/Cyborg (because of my scoliosis brace) and nerd. That was no longer an issue in high school.

Yeah, I've long noticed the disparity with how my early 90s high school was vs film depictions- everyone was pretty chill. That's an interesting thought on how this standard high school depiction came about; so I guess those writers now rely on film/tv tropes. At my school there were just groups of friends rather than groups meant to exclude people like you see onscreen, and no groups based on how good you looked. In fact, the prettiest girl in my grade was best friends with one of the least pretty girls. There was also no one that was considered "the most popular girl in school" or whatnot. And all our football cheerleaders were very nice.

I have a feeling they're not to happy about Velma neither and I hope she eventually gets the idea that she's mentally unwell. If she gets her psychological health in order... She could redeem herself. Something like saying "Sorry everyone. Turns out, I have several personality disorders. I'll try to move things into a more positive direction as my therapist helps me figure things out. Velma was a mistake made in a bad state of mind." Or something like that.

Okay. Hear me out. I have a head cannon so strong that it could shoot through reality. This being Velma's story told her way I will say these events are not happening how she is saying. The whole shaggy being a simp? Never happened. That's her thinking he wants her. Geegee? The hippy space alien from that movie telling him not to hang out with Velma but he won't leave her alone seeing as she is suffering from intense delusional episodes. I'm at a point where I'm not shocked at the whole blame the Father thing because it's normal. What I am shocked at is that it's shocking for you my man. WHEN have you ever heard a woman admit that her leaving, her life getting terrible and then having realised her mistake, comes back and sees everyone has gotten on with their lives and they're happier, is HER fault? Of course they're going to blame everyone else, that's what happens when society infantilises an entire demographic of people from infancy to their deathbeds

I love that our expectations for the reveal of the killer and their motives were *low* , but the show STILL managed to make it nonsensical and disappointing I mean, we see Fred's personality change completely after reading one book about feminism and that he will do *anything* to please his parents. So how about, instead of replacing his brain with that of one of the hot girls, having him read actual literature and ,ya know, being good parents that prepared him to take over the company sooner in life? Nah that would make too much sense.

Honestly, the idea of Norville being the serial killer had been on my mind for a few episodes. Him killing off beautiful girls so there aren't any to make Velma ugly, since he was obsessed with her, that's what I was thinking. Anticipating your reaction to the finale!

There was a case in the UK in the late 90's early 2000's where a guy was sued for sexual assault for touching a womens breast during cpr. It actualy made it to court was basicaly laughed out of court, the judge hinted that the only reason he let it go as far it did was so the poor guy who'd had is reputation trashed by the lawsuit could get the vindication of her bullshit getting demolished in court. There was a later documentry about a 3yo boy who died, (he'd firgued out how the front door lock worked and wander into traffic), the reason the first case came up is because the kid was seen by serveral men walking alone but none of them helped because the didn't want to be accused of being Pwords. When interveiwed some of the men cited the first incedent as a reason why they don't help anyone they don't know/trust, as its just not worth the risk, cost or potental damage.

I don't get the shows logic with the "affair" thing since there wasn't one, it's like saying the wife in cast away had an affair when tom hanks' character was gone for 4 years and believed to be dead or any spouse who moved on when the thanos snap happened only for their partners to return. It's like the show removed all the nuance in a situation like that and sided against the guy who was left to raise their kid alone.
