Velma Journalists DESPERATE to Silence The Truth

Velma is HBO Max's animation adaptation of the classic Scooby Doo cartoon. Except it has been entirely changed from the childhood show that many people know. The characters are entirely different, it doesn't even have Scooby Doo in it and the morals that are put forwards are a different beast altogether. Some though want to discourage conversation about the show, but why? Why do some journalists want to put an end to the question of is Velma worth watching?

Velma's hate watching accusations have always been weird, but when journalists write whole articles trying to make out that its making terrible shows a success, you have to ask why are they so invested in pushing such an obviously nonsense narrative? And why do they want to discourage people giving reviews of a show they so clearly like and agree with? No, I think I'll continue to laugh at the disaster that it so obviously is cheers. But why do you think CBR are so desperate to say that bad reviews are actually making shows a success? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

I have fond memories of watching the original Scooby-Doo with my siblings on 1970's Saturday mornings while wearing our pajamas and eating sugary cereal. Despite the predictability ("These meddling kids...") and silly storylines (Mama Cass and the Harlem Globetrotters), we loved it. It was just a fun, sweet cartoon. A happy memory of many Gen X childhoods. That some miserable people still angry about high school could twist it into something this ugly and mean speaks volumes of their sheer pettiness and nastiness.

When I was in elementary school I used to sprint two miles home every day so that I could catch Scooby Doo. Original Fred was an all around good guy who heroically lead the charge to help anyone in need. Original Velma was never portrayed and ugly or subpar, she was the likeable cute smart nerdy girl of the group. As a kid you never even understood that Shaggy was a stoner hippy kid. You had to be older to make that connection. He was just this cowardly funny guy who's love for food made him Scooby's best friend. Daphne was a bit like Fred, strong and confident, willing to help anyone in need but not as smart as Velma. They were really different kinds of kids who were best friends and their adventures could make any young kid feel like they could belong somewhere no matter who they were. For HBO to take something as good and positive as that and shit on it to this degree is unforgivable.

Don't know, but to me Daphne wasn't really well-portayed in original series under HB label. Even though i find "What's new scooby doo" a rather "meh" show i feel like Fred lost his abilities to Daphne so she could give more input into team and he was the one that became more of shiftless character, thus not doing well compaired to his original version.

This is why integrity and continuity (Cannon) matter. Once you agree to make alternative versions of cannon or take the original authors premise and change it. You open the door for junk like this. Also if you make a new show in short order say, every 4 years you reboot it. Then you divid the audience against themselves and you lose the good will and trust of your audience.

The one and only metric for the success of a subscription-only streaming show is whether it increases sales of the subscription service. If it doesn't increase sales, then it doesn't pay for itself. *If people call HBO and cancel, and explain that they canceled specifically because of shows like this, then that is the best indicator that it is a failure.* If the streaming service is ad-based, then viewership is a measure of success, because they can demand more in ad fees the more people watch. For this type of service, then it is best that no one watch it at all, so that ads on it are worthless.

"Hate watching" is our Entertainment at this Point: you don't really expect good Shows to come from Disney and Hollywood in General, and if they do, they will be mentioned, like Last of Us or House of the Dragons and actually help the Channels even more because they give a Chance for the critics to dive deeper into the law. Just saying: Harry Potter, Star Wars Channels etc. didn't grow from hate watching. But when a Show IS bottom of the Barrel Like Velma and so many others right now, it also helps to expose them. When somebody really wants to defend the Show, Go on, show us why it IS your favourite Thing.

This author does get that the majority of people aren't interested in bad entertainment. Even so bad it's good which Velma is not. That's a very very tiny niche audience. And this is up there with Food Fight. If you're one of us you know what I mean. "It's not as bad as it's meant to be." IT'S NOT MEANT TO BE BAD!!!!! Last thing. This show has no Shaggy. That is Norvil NOT Shaggy. Norvil is a horrible character but they ALL are!

Exactly, I've noticed a lot of access media sites are trying to make people think the show is a hit. They've been twisting the Parrot Analytics data in all sorts of ways; but there've been no actual ratings data to have come out yet. HBO did say they were pleased with the first week's ratings, but I don't think they've said anything about the succeeding weeks? I looked on HBO Max's twitter page and they post about Velma when there's a new ep up, but otherwise their feed is filled with TLOU- so that must be their big hit. I also think it's pretty telling that they haven't even said anything about the impending second season (which must have been pre-ordered)- it's just been the access media talking about it.

If the show were about Daphne--she acted just like Velma, but she was a popular stuck up girl--and the following changes were made the show would be a lot better: 1. Velma has Daphne's arc from the show, except she actively tries to be secluded from the rest of the group despite people liking her and she's just ignorant to it. 2. Shaggy--or Norville--was confident, but still made slip ups with the way he interacts with others. 3. Fred is the buff guy from the sketch in this video with daddy issues and overwhelming sensitivity. 4. Oh, yeah, if SCOOBY DOO was actually in the show! But instead we got the insufferable show I am "hate-watching" through youtube reviews, because I will never watch this garbage.

No, what we actually got is an insufferable racist judgemental PoS character in a world of horrible people pretending to solve a mystery but being more busy with toxic relationship drama, trite meta-humour, and taking bitter, petty swipes at the source material and anyone who liked it. The only reason to be proud of that, is if you were _trying_ to make something that angered everybody - the whole time. If we're going by the "spirit" of the law- How is the producer trying to trick a customer into consuming something - that they are meant to hate... NOT false advertising???

The basic premise of "the bad reviews helps the show" isn't inherently mental. The idea of "so bad it's good" is an old one, you've got movies like The Room, dodgy TV shows with over the top acting, hell even back in the Victorian era you had Florence Foster Jenkins, who was famous for being the worst opera singer ever. Problem is, there's usually either a tone of sincerity to the performance that makes it a farce, or some other redeemable trait. Velma is just a shameless, cynical, hate filled dump on the franchise it's part of. It makes The Last Jedi & Rings of Power appear well meaning. It's beyond so bad it's good, it's so bad that expanding the definition of torture and war crimes in general should be explored.

Some rich folks at Blackrock and Vanguard want your kids to be lesbians, gay, neutered males, trans or aggressive feminists. And so if you can get it in under the radar, if you can get people to consume something where they don't know what they're watching, if you can start telling people how the world should be before they have actually developed critical thinking skills, then it makes people a lot more gullible. It makes them far easier to convince, and once someone is convinced of something, if they didn't think their way into that position, then they can't think their way out of it either. Often ideas that people get when they're young are ideas that stick with them for the rest of their entire life, because they just become de facto foundations which the rest of their opinions are built upon."

There is definitely something more sinister going on behind the scenes. We know that corporations only care about money. So why do they continually allow these shows and movies to be produced on their networks, despite them getting such bad ratings? The only answer I can think of is, they no longer care about money. Their number one goal is to corrupt the minds of the viewers and to mold their minds to think a certain way. This way they can control people. Power is more important than money to them.

Sigh... I've been a member of the CBR message board community since 1999. It's my oldest surviving Internet community, and I love it. For most of that time the front page of Comic Book Resources was a place where people talked about comic books, and that was all. There was no culture war, it was a haven for gigantic nerds like me. They had long running beloved columns that talked about obscure comic book characters and stories, and occasionally breathless speculation about upcoming superhero movies. Then the owner Jonah Weiland sold the site to... whoever owns it now, and the frontpage became a mass of clickbait low effort articles on pop culture. Thank god they kept the message board, but the message board is the only thing of value left because the mainpage has become nothing but bubble gum for the mind.

The internet will never be the same. After the 2000’s, the normies came in and took it over. Today it looks like the Disney Channel. And while the kids watch KZbin and TikTok, the adults follow coworkers and relatives they barely know on Facebook. In the old days, outsiders came to troll, talk shit, post dank memes. Today it’s like walking into a Starbucks. And if you tell a joke, you’re lucky if one person out of twenty gets it. Today it’s all gone. You get a genuinely talented artist with an original idea to share, and some woke college kid is going to want to scalp them over one joke that didn’t age well. After net neutrality got struck down, the big corporations came in and strangled practically every one of the old websites. And where do you go to use the internet? Those same corporations. But in the end, I wound up right back where I started. I’m still an outsider, and I still know a few corners of the internet that the normies haven’t spoiled. And why mess up a good thing? And that’s that.

To an extent, there is truth in the claim that hate-watching is boosting the show. It's one thing for a reviewer to watch something and warn people about how bad it is. It's another thing when people actively hate-watch through the entire show. They're literally watching the show. Whether they like it or not doesn't affect the financial success of the show. I've heard a bunch of people now say that they are watching the show just to experience how bad it is. No matter how much you try to claim otherwise, that means people are pushing a show they say they hate into success.

See, I have to agree with the hate watching phenomenon existence, because if not, actually, your own reviews, I wouldn't even consider watching it. And yet I've obtained one episode (through methods not boosting the ratings, not gonna elaborate) and watched it to see how bad it is (yes, as horrible as I expected). Thing is, the producers in 2023 don't care if the show is good or bad if it's watched, because the success of the show is determined by the amount of ads they've managed to stick into the run. So when someone decides to see how terrible Velma is and watches it on TV (be it because they don't know alternative means or they have the channel and it's in the convenient time, it still is registered as a rating and a watched ad, resulting in the show making money. And the problem is, the show might even get the second season exactly because of this exact money it's making. Welcome to 2023 show business economy.
