Pg. 276 of the Silmarillion Sauron taught the Noldor elves how to forge rings and helped them except for the last 3 rings Narya, Nenya and Vilya. He was aware of the rings but they were unsullied as they were forged by Celebrimbor alone, and the hand of Sauron had never touched them. The fact they showed him touching the materials that forged the rings completely betrays the lore. If nothing else in the entire season was wrong just this 1 thing it would still completely wreck the lore in a way that changes the books forever. The writers have betrayed tolkien and the fans beyond any redemption. Everyone who is a fan should cancel their Amazon subscription and make sure to let them know this is why they are. Only way to make them understand doing this to fans is unacceptable I hitting them where it hurts...the pocket book.

Exactly, my first question after seeing this episode is where are the other 16 rings? They should be made first, then the 3 rings then the one ring. At this point I have to say I'm actually completely infuriated by this shitshow! I'm angry in my heart. I'm a 33 year old woman who grew up with Tolkien's literature. In the life of this beautiful man, I see dedication to his Art, I see endurance and resilience to darkness and an instinct to preserve and protect beauty and loveliness wherever he found it, I see love and devotion to the Sacred Feminine, as to all that was holy or that suggested holiness in nature, in growing things, in Life, in mankind. I see nobility. I see wisdom, and poetry. I see Beauty. I see an imagination that housed the Flame Imperishable (the name he gave to the divine fire of life and the souls desire to create). I see so many things that I hold to be beloved and precious that I can't merely perceive Tolkien as an author. The man was a Teacher. The man was a Master. The man was a Bard, through which some nature or another of 'godliness' (using the expression in a broad sense) was working and expressing its presence. He was meticulous and deft in his work. No effort or energy was ever wasted. Nothing was misplaced or accidental. Every word carried purpose and every detail was winged with meaning. These silly, puerile people make me sick. They sit there in one breath grinning and gloating to the world about just how much they LOVE Tolkien, and yet in the very same breath they slander a dead mans name, and accuse him of disgusting, repulsive and atrocious things such as being "racist" or "misogynist" - things he is no longer alive to defend himself from! And they mutilate and maim his life's work - all the while peeling with childish laughter and making bullshit excuses for their total lack of respect, and lack of comprehension, and lack of sensitivity. Oh, and they call those who genuinely love Tolkien "toxic" and "evil" while they're at it. How does a bunch of people who "love" Tolkien and who have read Tolkien's work get everything - ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING WITHOUT EXCEPTION - so utterly and abysmally WRONG? It's like somebody standing before the 'Birth of Venus' by Botticelli and saying "...hmmm, y'know what, I just LOVE this painting! I love it more than ANYTHING! NOBODY loves this painting more than I do! I know EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW about this painting because I'm completely OBSESSED with it!...But y'know what?...It could be better!" Then said person proceeds to take out a black marker and scrawl random, relentless, meaningless, ugly markings all over it. Destroying it forever. Causing disarray and confusion and ugliness where there had been perfect harmony, balance and beauty. And now there is one less sacred thing left in the world. It's like that person looked at Botticelli's Venus and said "HEY y'know what would make her MORE AWESOME? Cover her in blood and frostbite and blisters, and put a machete in her hand, and make her grimace all the time!! Hey what if she was actually a sullen, petulant, destructive imbecile - that would make her way more relatable and edgy!! I didn't read anywhere that Botticelli DIDN'T want Venus to be like this - ergo, he may as well have said he did right? Well too bad because I OWN THE RIGHTS TO BOTTICELLI'S VENUS SO I CAN DO WHAT I LIKE WITH IT!!" I hate this show. I hate what they've done. To me it's pure destruction. They have done to Tolkien EXACTLY what Melkor did to Iluvatar's creation. This is MAIMING. It's MUTILATION. If it isn't, then I honestly don't know what is. Not only that but it's low brow. The writing is disjointed, weak, nonsensical, lazy, sloppy, limp, flopping and flailing around all over the place without any coherence or balance. There's no build up to anything. Everything is rushed and hurried through and generally approached without delicacy, care or attention to detail. Things that are meant to be important in any varying measure feel insignificant. Crazy bullshit is just made up from out of nowhere, such as mithril containing the key to Elvish immortality, or Galadriel being critically instrumental in just about everything - from the Downfall of Numenor to the Forging of the Three Rings. The latest thing is that Sauron and Galadriel have a personal history, bordering on a romance, and Sauron is in fact a sympathetic figure who the audience can come to understand and develop feelings of acceptance and affection for. Thanks for that Amazon - Sauron is meant to be Satanic, but yeah, it makes sense that you lot want the world to empathise with him because you all worship him.

3 rings for Elves, 7 for Dwarves, 9 for mortal men. Sauron/Annatar helps with the forging of the 7 and 9 but not the 3 and his true goals aren’t known until 10 years later when he forges the One. I'll be honest: Guyladirel's storyline, so long as you take it out of Tokien's world and get writers with skill, actually has a lot of potential. A person hell-bent on revenge, pushes people away, meets this bloke who finally gets her to calm down and think, only to be the one she's after all this time. I reckon that would make a very interesting story. It's such a shame the writers don't have the skill. As for the show, I would place it above She-Hulk, because as terrible as it is, at least it's trying to tell some kind of story. She-Hulk just exists... a sort of bang-of-the-week.

What "combined creativity"? - Professor Tolkien was a master of his art; these show writers are just some morons way out of their depth, they simply don't know what they're talking about.
@pyropulseIXXI2 жыл бұрын
How is that incredible? Adding more writers doesn't mean you can match a literal master..... you realize this, right? Adding more people tends to dilute creativity and ruin things, which is why masterpieces are often created by one person. I am honestly insulted that you'd even suggest combined writing talent could ever match Tolkien (that was your suggestion, otherwise you wouldn't find it incredible that they didn't match Tolkien).
@joyis96382 жыл бұрын
I know you are trying to compliment JRRT but "combined creativity" is NOT a phrase that should be associated with Amazon Prime. JRRT is simply someone who spent decades of work on his creative world and did it with all his heart and soul. Amazon Prime is soul-less.
@DelightfullyMADD2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, combined creativity really should be put into giant air-quotes due to how poorly it fits. There are those who can create, who possess the sheer soul and desire to craft something of wonder and meaning, and poor their heart into it and devote their lives to it. Tolkien was one such person, someone whom you can tell poured a piece of himself into his work, who infused it with life, and within which you can feel his love and his passion for the world, the people, and the history. Truly inspiring And then there's the showrunners of Amazon Prime, soulless hacks who lack any true creativity, any spark of craftsmanship, who were simply given a world and setting they care little about and know even less about, and were simply cut lose to play with it as they wished. Like giving a vintage and highly valuable heirloom to a toddler and then acting surprised when the toddler just throws the thing around and breaks it... except at least the toddler legitimately doesn't understand the harm they're doing. My question is; do these people truly do this deliberately, or are they just so arrogant to think that they can match the works of someone far more skilled than themselves? I could believe both really; either they love being able to take a literary work such as LotR and ruin it, spit on it, and tarnish it for the sake of slaking their own egos; or they truly believe themselves far more capable than they are, due to likely growing up in a life and a bubble where they were given nothing but praise and adulation for their mediocrity and internalized it deeply, so much so that they truly believe that they are artistic geniuses because Mommy and Dad... actually probably just mommy, kept telling them how wonderful and amazing and perfect they were since criticism is horrible and makes people feel bad and thus we should just accept every piece of crap people churn out as being masterpieces so we can all feel included

It feels like every good content maker has just vanished or has their name being used as a way to generate hype. We don't get exciting new projects or ideas anymore. Just rehashes from a better period. We are literally living in Tolkien's fantasy world where each age degrades further till none know what creativity truly is anymore. I can't stand how much better of a story we could seen come to life on our TVs. PJ gave us a glimpse of that greatness with the trilogy and than a warning for the future when the hobbit was created. I know Tolkien purists scream at PJ for lore inaccuracies but yet somehow praise this dumpster fire. These people have sold your souls to a devil. I'm not expecting perfection of book to film or tv but I do want the same story beats. Tolkien and every other creator would run circles round these writers. Hell my goldfish would win in a writing contest. I can't trust a writer who has never created something on his own. The thing about Mystery Box shows, is that they have to be carefully planned and set up, in order for the payoff to be effective. At its best, the solution of a mystery box should only be obvious in hindsight, with all the different elements and clues the writer has carefully set up, finally clicking together for the audience at the same time as the characters. Each element has to be logically consistent and hang together with the final payoff, and any elements that could potentially contradict the setup should be avoided. @@dariovirga7711 Sure, but A) the show made it seem incredibly difficult, and 2) if mithril has this unique property that they need, this essence of the Silmarils or whatever, binding it to anything else could only dilute it instead of amplifying it. Also, the bit about adding nickel to iron was hilarious. All of the iron ever mined was already bound to nickel in various proportions, Fe-Ni clusters are incredibly common.

Yes, good point, and they are also going to need more materials, including a original dagger...? So they are going to make 16 more rings, after finding the resources, after knowing that sauron helped to create them... I got a new idea for a movie, lets call it ster wers, and its about a dark lord that uses the forces of good to build a death star with the purpose of absolute dominion of the known universe, and even when the good guys know that it is the dark lord that wants the death star created, they continue to build, because of... and then... profit..? Dont they belive that sauron is evil..? I always thought of him as lotr's version of satan. I mean, Tolkien, while denying that absolute evil could exist, stated that Sauron came as near to a wholly evil will as was possible. So they are telling me they are going to continue the work to create objects of great power, and they know satan was the architect behind it?... Aren't elves the good guys..?

They fundamentally mess up the rings too. Sauron provided the arts necessary to make rings that had the power to make lands in Middle-earth look a bit more like Valinor. He directly helped make 16, and Celebrimbor alone made 3 after learning how, but the art was the same. All 19 were given to elves (the incantation on the ruling ring would have come before the poem, probably composed by his later followers). As all this is going on Sauron also made the 1, hoping for a bloodless takeover, but as soon as he put it on the elves immediately took theirs off, knowing what was up. War ensued, they hid Celebrimbor's 3 and 1 of Sauron's first set. Sauron's war saw him recover 15 still out in the open, which he THEN eventually gave to Dwarves and Men. The show fundamentally alters the intent and purpose of the 3 rings, as well as who made them, everything. Probably he'll go to Mordor and make a whole set and pass them out and only then make the one ring? Quite a mess.
@random.36652 жыл бұрын
Wait, does that mean that one of the rings of the dwarfs/men isnt tainted by sauron? Or did he just not need to recover that one because it was already with someone that sauron could accept having it?
@rubix41952 жыл бұрын
Sauron will give them out with a free Amazon Prime subscription and Sauron advising them to leave seller's feedback because he wants to know if his rings were what they wanted. I wish Tolkien Estate will tell the Rings of Power writers to jog on *now*
@eldara32 жыл бұрын
@@random.3665 Bit late, but: the rings for the dwarves and the men were created in part by Sauron, and his hand in their creation alone already tainted the 16. The three elven rings were never touched by Sauron, but since his methods were used to forge them, they have an at least tenuous connection to the others. There are two possible explanations as to how the nine got to the men and the seven to the dwarves. Either Sauron to retrieve them all from Eregion, and just handed them out, or he managed to find all but one, with the last one having been given to Durin by Celebrimbor, who was a great dwarf-friend. In the latter version of events, Sauron might either not have known where to find the last dwarven ring, or might just not have bothered to dig into the mountain to find it, knowing as he did that it was already on the finger of an unaware and likely corruptible person. Though of course tempting and corrupting the dwarves did not turn out to be so easy, but that's another story.

Wait, if elves dont have medicine then how did Elrond heal frodo?
@erikjaroy82142 жыл бұрын
Yep. Elrond was famous as a healer. He also labored for years to try to heal his wife when she received a poison wound when she was captured by Orcs. But, naaaah! Clearly Tolkien intended for the Elves to be a race of Wolverines! 🙄
@rockencook2 жыл бұрын
Quick answer. By the time of Frodo in the 3rd age, Elrond wore Vilya, of the 3 elven rings. One of it's powers was thought to give the wearer the power to heal, the only power able to heal the dark shadow magic inflicted by the Morgul blades of the Nazgul.
@nathanmorgan36472 жыл бұрын
@@rockencook More sensible answer: If elven magic is relegated to just one ring, then they would have been extinct long, long ago. You don't need magic to heal wounds.
@shawnparshall11652 жыл бұрын
@@rockencook the Elven rings all have powers of preservation thus Rivendell and Lothlorien last as elven realms unchanged by time and their citizens resist the fading of their bodies. Aragorn and Gandalf make it clear that Elrond is learned in healing, as in it is a skill that is taught and developed not some magical gimmick. The ring's powers are not elvish 'magic' the elves magic as it were is natural to themselves and is not magic in their eyes. The rings are beyond their powers, part of the reason why the rings are so dangerous.

Can someone please explain something to me that I don't understand. Galadriel finds out haalbrand isn't the king. then she knows he's sauron. How? just cos he's not king of the Southlands doesn't mean he's sauron. nori isn't king of the southlands either, so does that make her sauron to? and even if you say " she knows cos he basically told her by the lake" ok fair enough. but then how would Elrond know? there's no possible way he could have any idea that Haalbrand is Sauron. this is everything Elrond knows about Halbrand. 1. he's secretly the king of the Southlands. 2. he fought against Sarons followers in the war.3 he's a blacksmith. 4. turns out he's not actually king. None of those facts could leave elrond to believe he's Suaron. there's no way he should have any clue who he is
