also big shoutout to mama chuu, one of the mvps of this case! it's refreshing to see a parent stand up for their child when this sort of abuse of power happens. basically, chuu knew the rules of the game and played it better than bbc. the second they fired her, i knew it HAD to be due to unpaid wages. something similar happened to my dad before he started his own business. his old boss still owes him abt 25k but he'll never see it. similarly, i don't think chuu or the other members will see the money they deserve to earn over the last 6-7 years but at least i do think the courts will rule heavily in their favor and they will be able to leave that company without having to pay a single dime. and tbh -this is more conspiracy than anything else so take it with a grain of salt- i think bbc knew from the jump that their stint was not going to last. that's why they were irresponsible enough to already get sued by that tech company. i honestly think the whole company was set up as a money laundering scheme in case the parent company ever got exposed (and it did!!). the split in post-expenses is also so shady bc what that entails is that bbc only has to list half the expenses on the official books that they show investors. so bc profit split is 70/30 but expense split is 50/50, even if a comeback actually lost them money, on their financial statements they have an up to 20% leeway to make it appear like the comeback was breaking even or in the green. that's crazy!

If this truly is company policy that most idols go through, then I won't even blame most idols for lashing out every now and then. The text messages were actually leaked by BBC themselves to dispatch. If you can read Korean, the tone in which Chuu talks to the director is actually very rude, she doesn't even use honorifics sometimes, which comes off as disrespectful. That's what BBC was expecting, for people to be shocked by Chuu's behavior there. The thing is that BBC wasn't paying her and Chuu also claimed the company didn't take her seriously when dealing with her, therefore I think her frustration is more than understandable.

About Chuu's salary, I'm from the Netherlands and receive a Wajong which is a wellfare for disabled and chronically ill people who have difficulties in the workforce. I get 70% of minimum wage and I'm technically poor, yet this is still more then what Chuu gets. The moment I heard how much money she earnt, my heart broke. Unless they are from a rich family or had big label success, idols are likely poor, underpaid babies, and this is also a problem in J-POP. Age Age Money by LADYBABY is coming to mind, which is a song about underpayment in the idol industry. Gimme money, indeed.

@abigailpf9835 Жыл бұрын
The thing you have to remember is that euro/dollar is more expensive as a currency than Asian countries currencies, like Korea. So you can't exactly compare western standards with Asians since it is different. I'm from Asia myself but I'm currently studying in the Netherlands and have worked part time jobs. My salary as a part timer is equivalent to that of a junior - mid experienced office worker in my home country. When you think about it that way, that's just crazy. I'm a college student who doesn't even have a degree yet, but I'm getting paid similarly to people who has degrees or experience. But in my home country, that much money is actually enough to live and still spend on things you like. You won't be the richest, but it's enough to get by. I'm not saying we should normalize low salaries on idols, but chuu's salary was probably enough to get her by. I think the video was exaggerating a bit, making it seem like she couldn't survive. Not to mention, international fans need to remember more that Korean rankings/public opinions may differ from international. There have been situations where international fans thought some idols would, for example, win awards but it ended up being another idol. I personally haven't seen much of loona/chuu when I went to Korea this year. All I see was Ive, specifically wonyoung. So I think the money she received was equivalent to that of her popularity as well.

Think they need a true breakdown of costs. The breakdown they gave here doesn't include living expenses(which I'd assume they have the girls living in a dorm that the company pays for) nor did they mention the cost of training and the repayment of that. Granted if she only trained 3 months it should have been repaid in first year of her contract maybe 2. Same with the traveling expenses, I can see the company not paying for her solo gigs if the Company has nothing to do with them, but if the Company has nothing to do with them then her expenses shouldn't be listed. Where if the company does get a kick back from her solo stuff then they should be paying the traveling expenses. Just looks way more fishy without a full breakdown on where the money came from, how it was spent, etc...

Jeez!), who attacked Chuu for "abusing her power", then they are just collaborating in the abuse and the exploitation of the members. Finally, $12K pa is the average salary of a Network Engineer or a young Doctor in India. But not for South Korea. Not even close. This is unacceptable for the country's standards. And these contracts are the actual abuse of power and so unfair, they can't stand up if it goes to a trial or are exposed to the public, like they did. And Blockberry knows this. SUPERSTAR K winners and contestants LEGALLY UNPAID, and overworked (sleeping only 3 hours a day on the floor stealing rest whenever they can, forced Botox treatments, phones being taken away from them). Most importantly, the sinister part where there is a bus which took all participants to a house where they were locked in, again with their phones taken away from them, and persuaded and pressured into signing contracts they have no way of asking anyone for advice on. The members of Busker Busker were warned AT NO CERTAIN TERMS TO GO ON THAT BUS. How crazy is that.

The reporter/dispatcher playing rhetorically to side with BBC when this person emphasizing Chuu "harsh" word and denied her statement, put it as the end note. Me as ex-journalist clearly see through this article intention. Chuu did won her court case, thats already indication that Chuu is on the right side of justice. But the article was written to make people really believe that Chuu and her mother were after the money. But the chronological did not lied. Before all of this, it was clearly to fans that Chuu has been overworked by BBC and BBC did confirmed it. Because of this Chuu's health was declined. Her body were less active and her reaction become slower. She was less smiling. Ofcourse her harsh word comes from her mental that got stressed by overworked. BBC is the one who triggered all her problems. This was in between Why not era and PTT era, before everything of this started. Her mother want BBC to be responsible with the schedule by managing her own daughter by her own terms. Thats why her mother was so furious when there was a delayed at LOONA's MV filming. Time is money, but time is also healing, the more rigid the scheduling, the less time wasted for her, and more time for her to rest after the schedule. Her mother just want to protect her to not get mistreatment. And her demand for the money, was to teach the company to not make the mistake again. But its too obvious when this reporter choose side instead comparing the claimed and the counterclaimed side by side, and study the history before the event. Just focusing on the contract??? Was it too misdirected the reader to make Chuu as a bad person. Remember about what happened to LOONA tours on how they were overworked, fainted, injured, disrespected... And yet the article was written as them playing victim.

BBC denied the "rumors" (as usual) but the members who filed for lawsuit have been silent on social media. The only one to speak, except for Vivi and Hyunjin (who haven't done anything), was Haseul for her solo anniversary - and even then, her post strongly suggested that the girls are aware of the boycott and support it.

Please keep in mind that your minimum wage worker in the US still needs to buy food, pay rent etc. . For Idols thats coverd in the "expenses". But still far less money that you would expect K-pop Idols to make.

Chuu for real kept it all to herself for her members until now, i can't wait for the rest of them to leave that stink hole and join her
@keithcraig506 Жыл бұрын
This honestly can't be a surprise for anyone, right? Everyone, with the exception of the requisite number of haters, idiots and trolls, knew for a fact that very concept of Chuu being abusive to her staff was absurd. Not to mention that everyone, including the staff, responded to BBC's allegations with, basically, "WTF are you talking about?". I'm the type of guy that likes to give kpop companies and kpop idols the benefit of a doubt when it comes to scandals. Mostly because most of those so-called scandals are based entirely in unsubstantiated rumors or, if something is confirmed to have happened, the whole thing gets blown way out of proportion. I mean, seriously, we all know how kpoppies just love love LOVE their drama and all it takes is 4 or 5 words on the internet to get the drama train rolling. With that being said, I've had the feeling that BBC hasn't been on the up and up for quite a while now. Not because they took some snacks away from the members, but because of all the obvious money problems they've been having, up to and including lawsuits. If SM or JYP had pulled something like this, I'd be shocked. Seeing as it's BBC, knowing their history, I'm not the least bit surprised this is happening. I'm sad that this is pretty much the death knell for Loona as a group, but I'm happy that the girls are starting to get out from under the BBC yoke.

Why is there a business tax rate applied on Chuu's earning? Shouldn't it be an income tax (income tax is usually lower than business taxes)
@shezamalik7918 Жыл бұрын
Just saying cuz I'm a business student (take it with a bucket of salt lol) they might be deducting this tax from Chuu and counting as Bbc' tax. Which means bbc gets away paying lower amount of tax in actual.

Well at one time I had $5,500 in a YEAR. LOL I'm fully disabled at a young age. You mentioned you can't live in USA really in America for that. TRUE! BUT I bring in $9,000 ISH a YEAR. So where can you live.... IN THE HOOD like we are. LOL and we're literally DROWNING in debt AND that has to help pay the household, all expenses, tons of bills, everything AND raise 3 kids solo. It's A LOT of stress when you're about to lose your place under this adminstration because NO ONE is helping. The area I'm in they don't help and is taking the $ for their friends, family, and spots. So then you can't get ANY help. So that's like $2,250 a YEAR per household ppl. So yeah the struggle is REAL. I'm happy she's out of that. She doesn't deserve that. A LOT of people don't get their IDOLS are homeless some of them. Same with trainees. Then IF lucky they smile for fans. Go home to NO FOOD, NO PROTECTS, NO MONEY, NO PROPER HOUSING, NO SPACE, NO WATER, NO TOILETS WORKING, I MEAN NOTHING. WHILE being crammed into a room with 7 PLUS members. It's awful.

Boycotting is not enough and shutting down the company is no longer enough. BBC needs to rot in prison and actually pay the members back the money they rightfully earned!! How is this happening to a developed country like South Korea? Justice for Loona and Chuu!! 🤬🤬

Funny how Chuu basically earned about half of the legal minimum wage in SK (and not funny ha-ha)
@djvillan Жыл бұрын
Honestly Chuu wasn't earning less than a retail worker in the US. Her deducted expenses included all living costs that almost everyone has, living expenses such as rent, food, clothes, etc. She just didn't have the ability to control those expenses like normal working people do. The approx $10K per year she was left with was basically money people have left over after paying all their living expenses, ie savings and money to do whatever else she wanted with that money.
@monki6304 Жыл бұрын
I haven’t really followed Chuu but does anyone know how she’s been living all this time if she’s been paid nothing? Is it bc she’s in Loona so her living expenses get taken care of? Edit: Just realized, is this caused by her expenses being higher than wages?
@mj_mewa Жыл бұрын
She probably lives with her parents, basing off the fact that her mum picked her up from the MV shooting
@rheimy7819 Жыл бұрын
@@mj_mewa no, the girls have an separate apartment for each other. They used to live together back in their rookie era but that became unbearable for 12 girls. Don’t take this for granted but I remember yeojin buying groceries with the company card, idk if that meant that she was spending money out of her own pocket though. Mamá Chuu picked her up for her solo activities because the company didn’t wanted to cover those expenses, as it was part of her new contract.

chuu just wanted to live her dream of being an idol and got absolutely screwed over by this terrible company who only cares about money. i hope loona can all leave BBC as 12 and i would absolutely love for them to resign under a new company and continue as loona together. if chuu decides to debut as a soloist she will be incredibly popular, at least if loona can't all be together we can still support them individually. she is such a strong woman, all of them are for dealing with this mess
