It makes me wonder if they are confused and compare this experience to Epcot, Disney World or any other theme park. This is not a petting zoo and is not for entertainment purposes. They seem so entitled and don't think of the horses point of view and how it must feel to have people rush up to you and then try to put their hands on you. Then touching the reins...uugh. That really bothers me so much because of the purpose of the reins is to communicate with the horse. Regardless, respect is the main problem because if there was respect they would be mindful of the soldier and horse's point of view.

Can't help but notice how the tourists behave themselves when there is a police officer nearby. Might it not be an idea for the police to be more proactive and patrol round rather than collecting in small groups chatting? While I recognize that guard mounts (even to an extent, the ones at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington) are in part "show" for tourists, tourists need to appreciate that they are also serious military portrayals of serious activities. These are not actors but rather young men and women who have been assigned ceremonial duty while serving their country. I was at Horse Guards in July while the King's Troop Mounted Artillery was manning the posts. As a retired military officer, I had to leave after a bit over an hour. If I hadn't, I would have given a "piece of my mind" to several disrespectful jerks. I have the utmost respect for the guards who maintained their military bearing and composure in the face of undisciplined clowns. LtCol, USMC(Ret)

The MOD police are there to protect against terrorism. Apparently London police are so compartmentalized that those police are not there to protect the soldiers. Because it is a military facility staying strictly as a historical site in appearance some kind of military police should be used to control the tourists dressed more like an MP(military police) and fitted out with a tough looking military kit. There should be signs making people aware they are on a military facility part of the royal grounds not Disneyland. As I have said in the past you can't wander onto a US military facility historical or not without knowing. I know you all don't want to change the historical facility but people aren't afraid of having their heads suddenly removed so we need a different deterrent.
