I attempt to disrupt a Bank Impersonation scammer called Faran for a whole week as I wait for the police to act. This one shows just how manipulative some scammers can be.
You'll see the techniques and language that he uses to manipulate his victims. And because he had a webcam, we can see him as he runs his Bank Impersonation scams against US citizens.

I work for Chase Bank. I am watching this video now, and paused it at the point where he spoofed the number so I could comment. When customers tell me "but they called from the number that is on the back of my card". I tell them THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD IS FOR ---OUR CUSTOMERS TO CALL US---, WE WILL NEVER CALL FROM THAT NUMBER!!! Yes I know that is in all caps, and I won't apologize. I can't stress enough to people how to look out for scammers. I talk to victims Every. Single. Day! 😢

Remember, thart scamming comes in all sizes and in any environment, not just indian phone scammers, which are some of the more simple forms of scams, as they're only going for your money. You will be attempted cheated, lied to, deceived, by many people with various reasons for their doings. For example, We know as a fact that the uproar on college campuses are sponsered by islameic terror organizations. Indian phone scamming is only the first level of scamming. And it will rob you of your money, but scams higher up will rob you of your mind and thinking too.

First convincing American accent I've heard from a scammer. "I can always tell his English was good, but with maths... not so much." 🤣
@Maialeen
@Maialeen 2 ай бұрын
I don't think he sounds convincingly American. His accent is just better than most that do the same thing he does. I'm not a native English speaker and he doesn't sound natural and American to me. Idk. Maybe it passes with very old people who can't hear well. Regardless, I am forever fascinated with the ones who have THICK accents and still insist on names like Jack Wilson or whatever. It seems to me like it makes them look more suspicious. It would be better if they picked an easy to pronounce Indian name. But no, every time they're like "Yes ma'am. This is Americaguy Baldeaglerson. You have a virus on your computer. I will explain each and everything."

@@Maialeen You're right he doesn't sound quite right, but it's close enough to pass as a first generation immigrant or just somewhere in the US with a weird accent I haven't heard before. It's certainly much better than the stereotypical scammer with a very thick Indian or Chinese accent. The grammar did give it away though, he makes many of the mistakes which scream "english is not my first language" (eg. "the Microsoft")

Jim Browning and Kitboga are genuine heroes. I'm sure we all feel that same feeling when they're able to save someone. I've known of at least two seniors who have taken their lives when they realized their entire retirement was stolen from them. These people are evil and I wish our governments would do something about this since apparently every local India police department is extremely easily bribed and the scams continue. Or maybe the key is to spread word in that community about it, I'm sure the fellow India residents dislike this nonsense as much as the rest of us, maybe if the police are bombarded with local calls they'll have no choice

You gave the money away yourself. I agree that scamming (at any level) _should_ be illegal, but you can never prevent people from giving away money to people they trust. If, say, the Indian police was made aware of a scam call center they may react and arrest some dudes, but just days later these people are back at work as if nothing happened. What we need is _international_ laws, but all we have is regulations. As an example, this is why no matter where you go in your world wide travels, a stop sign is octagonal. If its not octagonal, its not a stop sign.

I will say, most places that sell gift cards are getting wise to it, signs up at the point of sale, and I suspect the employees have been pretty well trained. Well imagine for a second that someone stands in front of your door with a nice suit on and an FBI badge asking you questions. You'd probably answer (or ask for a lawyer). To this old guy, the scammer was the authority. Why listen to some lowly retail worker while chase bank is telling him otherwise? It's super obvious and easy for us to know who to trust because we have more information than he does. He grew up in a world where you trusted people on the phone, so when the phone says it's chase bank and the number is the same as chase bank, then it's totally understandable that he went back to chase bank instead of listening to a random retail employee. So long story short, you said he can't be helped, I disagree. He just needs to be taught how to recognize scams. 1 week of watching this channel and the old dog would pretty quickly learn a new trick. I know I was able to teach my grandpa about this and he's about the same age.

@@gownerjones1450 Let's forget about the fact that it's not a guy at your door in a suit with a badge. It's vaguely American sounding guy who is just telling you he's from Chase. Even if it was a guy with a badge, who says he's from FBI and he's telling you to go spend all your money in Hime Depot on gift cards, wouldn't you double check when someone says to you "Hey, that's a scam"? Trust the guy on the phone, but not the guy right in front of you? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

You are doing so good work Jim! These scammers out there are hard core crazy now. I speak Chinese and have been getting scam calls in Chinese. At my work, we’ve been getting phishing emails on our work emails. I work at a private school. We have been told to forward those emails to the it department. Just so sad these days with the scammers. 😞 The first scam call I got was in 2009. I was in high school at that time and gotten my first flip phone (the old days lol) and I got a scam call saying my car warranty had expired. I didn’t even drive! These scammers are the most shameful people on earth!

It's a zero-risk situation for the scammer. If the store says they don't sell that many, the old man would have just bought as many as he could, with the same excuse. Either way he would have been fleeced for thousands of dollars.

The gift card industry dhould just be max £40 and once a week limit purchase. Waste of time, and dangerous, if you need to give money to relatives as a present, just give cash.

Now imagine my surprise when I heard Jim's voice on daytime BBC 1. No face reveal of course. Fortunately the BBC now frequently broadcast anti scam TV programmes that means that a lot of people are far more aware of the tricks used. Also romance fraud (no Jim in those!) etc. Public awareness can only help, as does the fact that most British companies now use "UK based call centres" as a marketing thing. Someone of Indian heritage that was born here has a very different accent. Those Kolkata accents stand out. The Indian government destroyed their own legitimate call centre service industry thanks to corruption 🙄
