@@JimBrowning Hey Jim, thanks for this awesome content. You should definitely show his face. No issues with that at all. Don't hold back. Culturally, there is a system of honour. To show his face would be to do more than police can do. Let the world see what a person in dishonor looks like. That is the real hurt for this culture. A corrupt police officer can be bribed with a scammed gift card. But a picture of a scammer cannot.

@@chrishue6338 At the moment, I think the only thing that will pull this person away from scamming, is to be offered an honest job where he can make limitless money, i.e. I cannot see him being content with a fixed wage. @@IEKevin this is such a huge part of it. I try not to hate on scammers as a whole because there's bigger systems at work that cause people to do these "jobs." Of course most won't change overnight because that's just not how human brains work and we're talking potentially an overhaul of personal values and that change is a process, even a journey. And I'm sure most of us when in our early-mid 20s fixated on 'getting that bag' and even justifying it with "my parents will be so proud! I can provide for them!" even if the work was harmful. This is why I love watching and learning about these scams from Jim Browning and others because while we can focus on stopping one scammer and helping one victim at a time, we're also learning it's the owners making big money at the top who are benefitting the most and bribing authorities to keep scamming.

This was very smart. What a lot of people don't understand is that India is a shame-based culture rather than a guilt based culture. You'll often hear about "bringing shame upon one's family" Even if you tell their parents and the parents are okay with it, they won't be okay if you tell the parent's wider community. They will be so embarrassed if their community knows their son is a scammer. I really want to see you go further down this route. I for one think it's going to be a lot more effective than telling the police.

One of the simplest things but eaiest to overlook is take your time - Scammers do not allow time for possible victims to think or tell anyone who might alert them. No legitimate business would pressure the customer, and would totally understand the customer hanging up and calling back on their official website. But they are master manipulators after all. Perhaps we need to crowdfund a massive advertisement campaign or leaflefts that can be posted to the most vulnerable in order to raise awareness since we're more likely to succeed here than ever get scam call centres in india shut down.

Yes! This is exactly the type of thing I've been wanting to see for years. You probably noticed that this loser was quick to mention his "reputation" being ruined if people found out he scammed people for a living. He is definitely not the first scammer I've heard say this, or that their parents would be devastated to learn they'd raised a criminal. Imagine answering every phone call, holding your breath just hoping it isn't a scambaiter because just two days earlier, while you were out with friends, you saw one of your "colleagues" name and face plastered all over billboards/ LCD screens with the enormous word "SCAMMER" splashed across it. For as large as India is, I would imagine that even the big cities have fairly close, tight-knit little communities within it, where people know one another or, at the very least, recognize faces. The fear of walking to "work" one evening and seeing everyone literally turning their backs on you and calling you a thief might be enough to at least make these kids stop and consider if the quick payday is worth it. Then again, some people are just criminal scum and the only thing that will stop them is prison or death so...

something I like to do, that can be very easy, is to get a call flooding program, and finding the number for the call center. once you do this, set the program to call them from various numbers (mine can do it from about 300 numbers at once, but some are less extreme) and have it play some loud noise or similar. this does a few things, 1) it wastes their time, which annoys them, and also means they can't spend that time scamming, 2) large volumes of calls often cost the company money, which can drain them very quickly and 3) it forces them to go offline for a short amount of time, and often get new accounts, new phone numbers, and often makes them wary and more likely to hang up on actual victims. this costs a large amount of money and time on their part, but is relatively cheap for you and is automated, so you can leave it running and go do something else.

He even threatened her to burn down the house, so we went to the police, they found him because my wife had remembered the license plate. I snuck a peak at the screen when they punched in the license plate and saw his name. A slight amount of facebook stalking later i found out that his parents lived just 10 houses down our street. He was reluctant to pay for the smashed doorbell (Not the cheapest model) but when i said to him "I wonder if your parents that i know live down the road, knows how you behave" and suddenly he paid up without saying another word, even though he had told the police that he would not pay, as he claimed he had nothing to do with it being broken. He knew that if i told his parents how he behaved towards the "neighbors" where the parents lived, he was in for a shouting :)

They talked me through installing AnyDesk on my computer and asked me for a 9-digit ID number (which I made up) and they spent quite a while trying to figure out why it wasn't working as expected. I then asked the nice chap (Indian accent) what the weather was like today in Kolkata and informed him I was already aware of this scam. I should have recorded the conversation. It was very funny. This is a great video. You're doing an awesome job! Please, keep up the great work. For the question raised which is; how to deal with scammers? I have an idea that might be worth trying out. We know that most scammers are teenagers that want to show off to their friends and they'll probably do a lot to "be cool". The way they do that, mostly, is social media. selfies, cool posts, religious posts or whatever gets their gears in motion. What if his own social media account, "magically", had posts about the scams he's running and the victims he has hurt. It would show his friends, the ones he's trying so hard to be cool in front of, that he's a bad guy. Public Shaming against the people he's been trying to be cool in front of. I think that would hurt a person with that mentality, a lot (i believe). Just an idea.

Hey Jim, Patreon supporter here. I think in cases like this, I can some what "sympathize" (I say that loosely) with the scammers that are their own operation. If this is his only source of income, it can be a bit hard to just stop cold turkey. That could be why even after having evidence and his father come to him, he hasn't quit yet. It may not be that he is not going to quit, but that he can't quit dead stop or lose his income. I think this is why scammers go into larger operations where they are "protected" by not having to worry about losing income. I know it can be simple to say "just give him a few to get his ducks in a row". However, for every day he keeps scamming, he is taking innocent's people's money. I say just go to the police at this point. He has made his life choices and needs to pay the consequences.
