Had this surgery last month. I am 23 year old, Division 1 Athlete with sever knee valgus due to birth complications. I tore my acl last year, now realizing that being knock kneed increased my chance of tearing again I had to get this surgery to return to my level of sport competition. My doctor did a really good job and had little to no pain throughout the entire process. Only issues i’ve had is swelling management and being on crutches for close to 3 months.

how are you doing now. i have just undergone this procedure two weeks back due to the same circumstances- acl tear but first have to fix deformity

Cool video. I have had this exact surgery done 2 weeks ago. Not allowed to put any weight on it for 6 weeks in total. Revalidation is tough, being so disabled. Pain is controlable with painkillers. Plate is supposed to stay in unless it causes trouble.

Im terrified ill have to get this eventually, i can tolerate pain but ive heard some people say it was the worst theyve ever experienced

@@ham5483 Well, it depends. They told me that it would be bad but with the right medication it is very ok to handle. I have defenitely had worse pain. Dont let them scare you too much. Try to look at the end result, which for me is maybe, being able to keep my own knee. That is more important to me. I hope this helps you a bit. Dont hesitate to ask me more. Have a nice day.

@@CirclingtheFringes can i ask how old are you and what your activity level is? Ive heard recovery is much easier the younger the patient.

@@ham5483 I am a 47 year old male. I always have been very active in sports, like running, kickboxing, mountainbiking. Especially the running has caused some wear and tear in the softer part, dont know the English word, in Dutch its "kraakbeen", but i doubt the English word is " crackbone"🤔. This surgery was severe, but not as bad as getting 1 or 2 new knees. Surgeon promised me that i could abuse my knees as much as i did before. That wont happen because i am getting older, but i am very hopefull.

I had this surgery last month, as well as having the front of my knee cap replaced and hardware removed from the front of the knee. I have to do my right knee the beginning of next year. I was born with Tubular Patella Dislocation and have had this issue since I was 8 years old. I was born with alignment issues and my knee caps being 3 degrees off. I had previous surgery prior to this one. They said I needed this in order to be able to walk another 30 years so I can get double knee replacement when I'm 65. This surgery is the hardest experience I've had, and I really hope it's worth it years from now because my quality of life hasnt been great for a long time.

How long does the plate stay in the leg?
@CirclingtheFringes9 ай бұрын
I have had this exact same procedure done 2 weeks ago. The plate will stay in unless it causes problems. Given the trouble of revalidation, i hope they dont have to go back in again for this plate. But i am a 47 year old male, and i do want to have some good years of sports. Maybe not combat sports anymore, but i hope to run without pain, or go mountainbiking. We'll see. If it causes trouble, theres no other option. I do have serious doubts about doing the other leg though😮

@@CirclingtheFringescan you still do sport? I’m 41 and have to have this surgery soon and want to still be able to do somethings although I will avoid contact sport

@@jonathanburn964 Not till now. Even walking is difficult, which led me into depression. Be carefull with what you choose. I regret my surgery every day. Hope i can walk without pain somewhere in the next few months
