Those were the dangerous times too mid 80’s AIDS we’re spreading like wildfire By early 90’s lots of village girls went back home to die Lots of money to be made to elevate the living standards of their families back in the village But Some paid heavy price for it. Great to hear the positive story. Thailand has always have that “part time lover “ reputation since I was growing up in 70’s

My 18th and 19th year old life was wonderfully changed. My Girl friend Malina was unbelievably beautiful. Apple m other was kind, pretty and repaired the damages of Vietnam. You cant go wrong. Great story. I can relate very well since I first came to Thailand in 1995 (and visited regularly for 15 years while working abroad) when things were much different than they are today. Lots of close relationships which were kept alive while I was working in the Middle-East thanks to the old International Long Distance offices. I think what ruined so much of the romance and getting to know bargirls on a deeper level was the internet, as everyone now seems overly infatuated with their IPhones in one way shape or form. I used to enjoy sitting on the beach in Pattaya with my Tirak drinking a cold beer while eating the fresh seafood provided by the walking salesmen/women. The girls often brought their comic books with them wherever they went. And the Pokey Sticks! The hotel minibars weren't complete without them. I'm sure you can relate to those wonderful times. I visit Pattaya from time to time now but much of the luster is gone. But it's still the only place on the map worth flying half way around the world for. Cheers mate. Keep the vids coming.

After I settled in some in Chiang Mai, I went down to Loi Kroh with a friend and visited the bar scene. There was one girl there, not the prettiest, but cute, and she wore somewhat of a summer dress. She was friendly but (one thinks) somewhat new to the scene. We had a few drinks, some laughs, and then I left. About a week later I thought what the heck, maybe I'll go bar fine her. Went back to the bar and she was there, but completely drunk. She asked for an orange juice, so I bought one for her, and shortly there after she ran into the restroom, where I figure she vomited. Staggering some on her way back, she asked for another orange juice which I wouldn't buy. This was early in the evening, maybe 8pm, and she was in no condition to take out, if even to spend time with. Never went back to look her up after that, I guess the whole scenario kind of put me off, but I that doesn't mean I often wonder what would have happened if she had not been so toasted. She was the type that probably could have melted my heart, but in the short, and long run, I have to say it probably was the best result. Instead I met another girl that although we never stayed together, I followed her as she changed bars, introduced my friends to her, and had a great time. To this day, 5 years later, I still stay in touch with her as a friend which is nice.

I've had 3 Thai girlfriends since 1988 onwards non of them had anything to do with bars or working girls, I know 2 people who married Thai bargirls and brought them back to the UK both times it went wrong but not because of the girls it was the behaviour of the husbands , knowing the full story makes me laugh but its not really funny as both girls thought they had found someone to love them and a better life but it all went wrong.

I have to wonder how things worked back then. There was no Internet, phone calls had to be very expensive and a written letter could not be read by the girl. Seems like these long distance "relationships" were only possible after the Internet entered the picture. I'm thinking the Internet played a significant role in the changes that have taken place over the years. When Thailand was more isolated it stayed true to its old ways, but now many things have changed, mostly for the worse.
@steveg2479
@steveg2479 4 жыл бұрын
Why do you think they could not read English or anything else? Back then, kids had to pay to go to high school, so if the family had no money, school and opportunity was over at 13. Many of them were clever enough to learn, but didn’t get the chance. Sad life, being used by everyone.
@davidwill1320
@davidwill1320 4 жыл бұрын
@@steveg2479 First off, I was referring to the ability to read English. Obviously, the westerner is not going to write a letter in Thai, nor would he be able to read one. Even today reading English is rare among Thais, particularly those with only a high school education. I currently live in rural Thailand and can guarantee you the vast majority of people up here can't read English, let alone speak it. They all use Google translate, a tool they did not have back then. I really don't know how that equates to second sentence of your comment, which seems to support what I said rather than give credence to your first sentence. Your third sentence seems like an unrelated tack on that suggests prostitutes are innocent victims of the evil westerners. Westerners seeking prostitutes in Thailand is very much like gambling in a casino...the house always has the advantage.

I have had guys in the bars who must be newbies to Thailand even start asking me prices for girls and wanting all details. Then I tell then what they want to hear then they start saying well I'm not here for the girls I feel sorry for then I'm just curious … They are the worst type of person. Ok many bar girls like the life and money however I have seen young girls pressured into going to work a bar in tears one example i was in a bar the mana San was on the phone to her father he was bitching that she hadn't sent money home the mana San kick-off at him the girl was heart broken so yes sometimes you do feel sorry for some however the majority of them would take the sugar out of your tea.

Can I give a piece of respectful advice? You are an amazing storyteller, I am always submerged in your stories, but reading somebody else's not-so-great writing robs you of your talent. How about if you ask the contributors if you can re-tell the story? You can have your outline on your trusty clip-board. It's never going to be perfect, but it will be close enough, and you can do your magic, and add commentary.
