The ones around here are relaxing with no haunted vibes, which is nice. I think it's only trains with specific chords mixed with bad weather and playing in the late night to early morning period that can be haunting.
@JacksonGuitarsPlayer033 жыл бұрын
Thing is you don’t think about the train driver. He is blowing the horn. Reason you say “haunting” is because you think the train is driving itself and blowing its horn by itself from a far distance

As a child I would visit my grandparents’ house. They lived near some train tracks, so sometimes I would hear a distant horn. My life changed a lot between those times and now, but the train horn at their house was always there. As of June this year, my grandpa died and it was very hard for my grandma, living alone. As we made a toast on Christmas Day, as people were tearing up, talking about all the things he was as a person, I heard that horn. It took me back to a time when the scariest thing to me was the talking motorcycle in Yo Gabba Gabba. I didn’t have to worry about identity or mental health or gender. I was just a child, once again.

I play this every night to sleep. I used to live next to the train tracks all throughout my childhood and when I couldn't sleep it would help me. Have to share my favorite poem with you, by Robert Hillyer, Nocturne If the deep wood is haunted, it is I Who am the ghost; not the tall trees Nor the white moonlight slanting down like rain, Filling the hollows with bright pools of silver. A long train whistle serpentines around the hill Now shrill, now far away. Tell me, from what dark smokey terminal What train sets out for yesterday? Or, since our spirits take off and resume Their flesh as travelers their cloaks, O tell me where, in what age and what country you will come, That I may meet you there.

I remember awhile back a bunch of us went to the Green Lake Soberfest and we all stayed in one cabin. Everytime I would move in bed the cot would squeak. That night I went to bed it was so funny, it seemed every 10 or 15 minutes the train would go past, blowing it's horn and everytime I laughed the cot would squeak. It was never ending. 1rst I'd laugh about the train blowing it horn and then the cot squeaking. It was almost unbearable. My sides were acking from laughter. I couldn't stop laughing and when I heard the others laughing, I laughed harder. Pure torture.

After living in Augusta, GA a big train hub, I noticed each engineer has their own unique signature way of blowing the horns. Some engineers have a much better talent than others. Most of these train tapes I've listened to are just the same old horns blaring too much and no personality and no fading as the train approaches or recedes from your location. At night some engineers would take it easy on the horns and make them almost melodical. Perhaps this might give you some inspiration.
