At 20:49.. It is the heavier plate that subsides not the lighter plate.. (Note: Oceanic plate is made of basalt and is heavier than the Continental plate which is made of Granite) In convergent plate tectonics, we have 3 cases : Case 1. Ocean Plate- Continent plate convergence : Here the Oceanic plate being heavier subsides beneath the continental plate. The subducted part of the oceanic plate goes into the asthenosphere and due to high heat in the asthenosphere, the oceanic plate melts and its volume increases( density decreases), thereby due to high volume and low density, the magma comes out of the earth's crust from fissures forming island arcs. Trenches are also formed at the point(all along the oceanic and continential plate convergence) where oceanic plate subsides beneath the continental plate. Eg: The Nazca (and, to a lesser extent, Antarctic) plate subducting under the South American Plate, meanwhile, uplifted the Andes and peppered that towering range with volcanoes. Case 2. Oceanic plate- Oceanic plate convergence : Both plates being heavier ( made of basalt) will push each other, but the heaviest plate will subside forming island arcs and trenches as explained above. An example of an oceanic/oceanic convergent boundary is that between the Pacific and Mariana plates, which includes the Mariana Islands arc and a subduction zone encompassing the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the World Ocean. Case 3: Continental plate- Continental plate convergence: As both plates being lighter( made of granite), none will subside. Both will push against each other, and as none subsides, they will result into fold mountains. ( Jab koi plate niche ni ja skti ek dusre ke against push karke, to common sense kehta hai wo upar ko fold hojayengi) eg: The classic example of a continental/continental convergent boundary is the rumpled overlap where the Indian Plate drives into the Eurasian Plate, a tectonic collision that has thrown up the greatest mountains in the world - the Himalayas - as well as the vast, high Tibetan Plateau. To the west, the Alps grew in similar fashion via the collision of the African and Eurasian plates. Mujhe clear ni hua tha amit bhai ka video dekh k ye topic so I had researched a lot and wrote all this so that i can help someone.. Do thank me 😛
