Distrokid is such a strange company. I release music under several artist names with them, some even verified with the blue check mark. Recently, I put out an album under a new name, and then got a message from Distrokid saying I’d received a strike for botted streams-around 200 plays from a playlist that was later deleted, which I didn’t even add my music to. I asked why I’d risk my account for 200 streams when my other music averages 30-50k streams daily. They didn’t even respond, just removed the strike. *shrug*
@BigMTBrain28 күн бұрын

@@uamee Got it. Thanks. Similarly, I'm quite eclectic in musical tastes and music I create, and have considered that different personas for each genre would be best for distribution. However, then the puzzle arises if you want to perform them all as a single persona. I can see for those who generate works with AI or who are just recording artists, this is of no concern, because they have no plans or desire to also perform. But for a performer, separate distribution personas could be an issue.

Did you know they won't let you downgrade your plan to one of the cheaper ones? That's right. Instead, you have to remove all your music from stores, open a new account, choose the cheap plan, and re-upload everything again. Sounds insane, right? It's their actual policy. Distrokid is trash.
@isomatic26 күн бұрын
I have their penultimate plan and was looking to downgrade as I’m only focusing on 2 artist projects now but there was no option to. Now I know why. Either i continue to not pay them or just do at least 1 album each from 3 projects a year, which is doable and probably my best option at this point.

CD Baby not having a subscription option is absolutely a good thing. They charge a $10 one time fee for your release to stay up forever, while Distrokid will take down your releases if you cancel the subscription unless you pay an extra $49 per album or $29 per single for the "legacy" option.

I've personally never had any problems with distrokid. But one major thing that sucks about the contract is they don't have enough staff to police your music from being copied / stolen. Because if you declare the use of any sample (with rights and license inc splice etc) they make you sign a waiver which means you can't use KZbin ID. CD Baby is cheaper and probably a better option on the long run, "no suscription fees" mean you pay for a release once and it stay online (you don't have to pay each year to maintain it online). Yo have to take into account that subscription means your track will disappear once you stop paying. I'd rather pay a flat fee per release and let them stay online no matter what.

CDD Baby - were my original distributor, but thanks to the non responsive customer service, I have been, and still am waiting for replies to emails I sent just as I joined LANDR. and have been with LANDR for 2 years, so I guess that says it all bout CDB, Landr customer support on the other hand is probably one of the best in the industry from my personal experience

LANDR is looking more attractive.

CDBaby will claim all of your youtube vids containing music you've distributed through them 👍

all streaming platforms do this. this is how it works. that's part of the agreement you signed up for. it's not an evil practice, it's the distribution service working in your favor by protecting your work

Yeah that’s how they give you your royalties. If they didn’t then they would not be disturbing, technically you would be doing it yourself at that point.

@@Fire-Toolz What kinds of "claims" are we talking about though? ContentID seems designed only to treat one person as a Creator and the other as some variation of a Thief. There's protecting intellectual property, and then there's fighting with KZbinrs over monetization crumbs.

Well, I've heard a lot story's now and decided not to book any service on trash kid, thx a lot 👍 KZbinrs should stop to make promotion for them, I will let em now for sure!
@crnkmnky28 күн бұрын
Yes, let them know (if they care). It seems most companies that sponsor KZbinrs have notorious customer service problems.

i use them , just try getting your music off them , or try to get it removed from a streaming platform , they don't give a shit , they say it can take up to a year to remove a track from a streaming platform , they are cheap for a reason , they are shit

Uh isn't that illegal? to fire someone for unionizing? at least in the usa
@crnkmnky28 күн бұрын
Supposedly, but they get away with it all the time. If they don't fire the unionizers, they make the job miserable. Or they close the whole office, move it 15 miles away, and restart hiring from zero (Walmart).

Tunecore is hot shit too. Vultures. You have to pay them to “not” take down your music. You pay them to do nothing. If you stop paying they will do something. Garbage.
