It took me a while to collect myself and my thoughts after listening to this. I apologize for not getting into the deep meaning that was so beautifully expressed by David. I feel that the song, done like this, is so relevant in today's society. We are all lacking in our ability to communicate meaningfully. We talk AT each other, instead of TO each other. We speak, but have nothing of importance to say. We do it to hear ourselves and fill up the void that is left, when Silence is sometimes GOLDEN. We hear- without actually listening. We shut out anything that doesn't go along with our "feelings" or the way we WANT to see the world. Would we really talk to a person face to face, the way we do hidden behind a keyboard? How can we possibly learn if we are the ones doing all the talking. Listening requires so much more! There is thought necessary. If we could open our minds, our ears and shut our mouths, we could learn so much. I include myself, because I know it is one of my many faults. I try to work at it each day, and I'd like to think that through Music, I am learning so much that I would never have known otherwise. (Thank you for that) That "Neon God"...Our shiny screens. Full of entertainment and news, and many people who mean nothing good for us. Yet we have our faces glued to it. In our pockets, our purses, right by our side 24/7 for instant gratification and information overload...We are separating ourselves from each other. It has its appeal and its usefulness, if only we could put it down long enough to actually go about the process of living life outside of it... I keep trying. Putting down my phone for meals with my family. To actually Talk on the phone, instead of texting an old friend. Words on a screen cannot replace the warmth of a friendly voice. Exploring those things that we glare at wishingly on our mini-screens is something we should all aspire to. One step at a time. It is hard! I know. Love and well wishes to all of you! Jennifer

@@RosesTeaAndASD I am so sorry that I am just getting to your comment! I missed a lot of them and am just now finding them! I was so young the first time I heard the original that I couldn't tell you much about it. I do know that I never REALLY paid that much attention to the lyrics until this! I usually talk too much, but I was just at a loss for words after this. I can only tell you what it makes me feel now. I think the meaning can be interpreted differently by each of us, but to me it's a warning about a lack of communications between people. We don't talk to each other anymore. We talk AT each other. Or our face is stuck in a tiny screen constantly. Although it was written long ago, it is relevant now, even more, in my opinion. Technology is the "Neon God"... We need to pay attention more. To each other, to ourselves. To live outside of the madness that technology has presented to us. The Sound of Silence, is deafening when we miss out on the truly important things in life. I think that the Musical instruments represent "communication" between all humans. That over time, due to our self indulgences into our "Profiles" , "Likes, "Clicks", and "selfies", we are missing out on the Music (life). He is warning us that the Truth is being yelled out to us, and the signs are everywhere, but we are not paying attention. "The Words of the profits are written on the subway walls & tenement halls" (Tenement Halls are homeless shelters/group housing for the poor) I loved this so much! it SHOOK ME! Thanks for asking my thoughts. What are yours? Come hang out one Monday night in my Live Stream and request a song or two. CHEERS!

The lyric that is inspired in an era when a young war in Vietnam was still being won, when Civil Rights were something you had to protest in the streets to yet win. From a time not long after a nation mourned the loss of a President who dreamed of putting a man on the Moon. When National Guardsmen outnumbered students on college campus'. A decade when the din of voices fell on deaf ears no matter how loud the shouted protest. Simon and Garfunkel sang a warning to their times to warn us all of the peril of closed minds and closed ideas. David Draiman sings so precisely and perfectly my personal anger that the warning was not heeded. I am brought to tears by this rendition and the wasted years between both messages. Read the comments from others of my generation.... in their souls they are as emotionally moved as I.... even if they cannot tell you exactly why. Thank you David and thank you Disturbed for "listening" and giving voice to a rightful anger.

POWERFUL and POWERFILLED! Thank You Young lady, I'm old and I still Love Paul Simon singing his song the way he wrote it. Then I heard that he himself commended David and Disturbed for making his song relevant for a whole new generation. As a former musician? I grew up playing piano, violin, drums/percussion and guitar. I resented losing feeling in my right hand and losing music even more as I went deaf in my right ear. Enjoying music is easier when a real singer hits notes and tones to share the song as their message. Chris Stapleton is one such musician currently being noticed and appreciated. Thank You for being Respectful! I've began listening to many "reaction" channels but I stop when they cannot or will not shut up. You are Beautiful and the times you look directly at your camera I felt we were in a conversation together and that's a tough thing in todays world. You are in my prayers Hoka Hey

Disturbed is an awesome band. The lead singer trained as a classical artist, and then went down the metal path. Their songs are intense, some heavy topics, and so it's s only right they took this song and were able to so beautifully extricate the rage from ignoring the message the first time around. This is a stunning cover, beginning to end. And his voice, the inflections, the passion, the intensity, along with the depth of it in his eyes....that's what's piercing. Everyone in the world should listen to this version. ✌

Really hits ya, doesn't it? Especially for the times we are experiencing now. No one is really paying attention to what's really going on in the world right now. Too busy with their minds in their own little worlds!

You are so right! Since I have started reacting (Mid-March) and doing artists/music from other Countries, my eyes have been opened to so many things that as an American, take for granted. We have our own personal struggles, our family struggles, our Country's struggles, that we don't consider the world as a whole. As I believe we should. It is very humbling and makes our inner problems seem far less significant. I am no activist, but I do believe we (our planet) the people on it, need to recognize this. It may not make our internal demons go away, but it certainly helps to put things in perspective! Thanks for the very insightful comment, Beth! Cheers!

I first heard this version by Disturbed shortly after the UK and in is first lockdown in 2020 on a video entitled A World in Lockdown and just knew that I had to find the official video, the best thing I've ever done! I strongly recommend you seeking this video of The World in Lockdown!

Wow, thanks JaskaU- (what's your name, if you don't mind me asking?) Welcome to the Lounge! I see that you are from Finland, Didn't you comment on my recent dive into "Nightwish"? If not, and you're a fan, I would suggest that you go check them out! There are 3 in total. I think my Favorite was "The Greatest Show on Earth"! WHAT an Experience and thinking song that was! By the way, I am doing my Live stream tonight at 6pm EST, if you'd like to come and request something, we can all watch and listen to it together! We have a lot of fun, chilling, listening to music and chatting in real time! There's usually about 10-12 of us and it's a very intimate, and fun experience. Just like the old days, hanging out with old friends, listening to old and new music & watching Music Videos. Here's a link for tonight, I hope to see you there! kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmTOdJ2qosR7l5Y Cheers! Jennifer

@@TheSpeakEasyLounge I did watch all three of your Nightwish reaction videos almost immediately when those were on Utuub, and... The Greatest Show On Earth(Tampere 2015 live) is a blast. Thank you for the hint for the live stream/chat/listening party. 😉 👍 Let see if I am available off from the other things, I definitely take time to consider to join in. Even though it's middle of the night here in Finland. Greets, Jari

You really need to react to some of the songs off of the Evolution album. "Hold Onto Memories" A fantastic song, and more of acoustic song. Not heavy at all! There is also "A Reason To Fight" ..... "Already Gone" ...... A cover of Stings " If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" is fantastic. If you want to react to more of a traditional heavy metal song of theirs, try "The Light" Really enjoyed this reaction....the more you listen to it, you will watch the video, and the images portrayed in it.

I watched it! I subbed. This song is truly one of the great ones. It almost brings me to tears. I'm not that way. I usually don't feel emotion this way. It takes something catastrophic to bring out emotion in me. Thank you for giving it a chance. As I said in my other comment, Disturbed is one of my all time favorite bands. I gravitate towards very heavy music. This cut caught me off guard. I remember sound of silence by Simon and Garfunkel being on the radio when I was young. This dosen't even compare. It's almost like it's been waiting for them. Love your channel. I'm a fan. ❤😎

I am so glad you enjoyed it! I am not into heavier music normally, but the great people here in the Lounge, have given me the greatest gift...An open mind. I have found things Hard, soft, foreign languages, Rap, Rock, Symphonic metal, Country, Acapella, that I have fallen in love with! I feel so blessed! I hope you will take a chance and try some of the reactions that you normally wouldn't choose, and try it...I BET you will be pleasantly surprised, like I was! There is some AMAZING talent here. If you do, let me know what you think!

Hey Thomas, would you share a link? There are 2 specific videos that I did, that moved me to tears. I don't know if you saw them, but one was Sohyang's version of "Bridge over troubled water" and Dimash's "Confessa/Diva Dance". I can't explain it, but sometimes we are just so touched by something that we can't help but to react like that.

I could listen to David all day long ....one of the very best vocalist's in the business imho!! David Draiman..... a powerful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which goes straight through you to your very soul! He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before........just hauntingly beautiful. An awesome talent. David can make you cry or give you goosebumps or BOTH! His voice goes right through you! Thanks Jennifer....loved your reaction.
