What is this about 'trolls'?
@edwardbroyles97382 жыл бұрын
I was a teen when Simon and Garfunkel released their version. I loved it but, I have to say Disturbed's version is much more powerful! I can watch this video on a loop and never get tired. Honestly it gives me chills every time I see it. The 60s & early 70s were a time of protest songs but this video is particularly appropriate considering the instability of our society today. It reaches out and grabs you but the throat and shakes you to make the point "WTF is wrong with you" people are so blase about our crumbling infrastructures and systems. Wake up and pay attention. Sorry for preaching but that's the message I get from this video.
@rk41gator2 жыл бұрын
@@edwardbroyles9738 I agree. But I think "our crumbling infrastructures and systems" while far from great are a minor problem as compared to US's crumbling lack of integrity and fairness. Too many are sacrificing their morals for 'win at any cost' mentality. What is needed is an understanding of the problems and effective ways of pulling together to fix them. Blind pseudo-patriotism can do nothing but temporarily hide the warts and hide what is truly wrong. That has gotten us in the sorry state we are currently in. Listen to the truth on subway walls not empty slogans. Open our eyes and ears; listen and stop talking past each other.
@edwardbroyles97382 жыл бұрын
@@rk41gator I agree with you. My comment was getting kind of long so I cut it short. The original Simon and Garfunkel song seemed more hopeful like please listen to what I say. Disturbed's version strikes me as you were warned and you still are only interested in yourself. As in screw the future of the world, I just want to get more, more, more. Money & POWER!!

April 2016, Paul Simon endorsed the cover.[71] Additionally, on April 1, Simon sent Draiman an email praising Disturbed's performance of the rendition on American talk show Conan. Simon wrote, "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I'd seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks." Draiman responded, "Mr. Simon, I am honored beyond words. We only hoped to pay homage and honor to the brilliance of one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Your compliment means the world to me/us and we are eternally grateful."[72] As of September 2017, the single had sold over 1.5 million digital downloads[73] and had been streamed over 54 million times, estimated Nielsen Music.[74] As of July 2022, the music video has over 826 million views on KZbin, while the live performance on Conan has over 131 million, making it the most watched KZbin video from the show. Deep, real and chilling. This grasps your very soul and shakes the living daylights out of it. It also personifies the message behind Simon and Garfunkel's original version, which pays homage to one of their college friends whom became blind and then survived that trauma, to be come successful in his own right. Love this song with deep sincerity!

This song has so many different meanings... When schools, especially public schools from kindergarten through high school, run out of funding, the first programs they cut ✂️ are the art's, music, theater, etc. Also, ISOLATION, DIVISION, LONELINESS, NOT COMMUNICATING, NOT STANDING UP FOR OUR RIGHTS OR EXPRESSING OURSELVES AND WHAT WE BELIEVE IN. We no longer interact face to face with each other, but through technology, social media on our cell phones and computers. I could go on and on. 😢

When Simon and Garfunkel first released this song in the '60s, the audience loved it but the critics hated it, not because it wasn't a great song, it is, but because they were offended by the lyrics. They complained that how dare some barely 20 year old kid (Simon) skewer society like that, saying that something was wrong with our way of life. But, the song is poetic and people heard the truth behind the lyrics and resonated with them. Great cover!

Trolls were not the first to record the song. It was written and performed by Simon and Garfunkel in the 1960s, and Disturbed did this as a cover version. David Draimain is a trained Cantor (Jewish chorister that leads the singing in a synagogue) but decided to be in a heavy metal band instead. Simon and Garfunkel's version speaks how folk were beginning to stop interacting with each other, bcoming glued to their TV sets instead and it was a warning. In this version it shows that it's still happening because now we hide behind our cell phones, tablets etc on social media, in other words decades later the problem in a way is now worse.

This is a song originally by Simon and garfunkel. About 90% of everyone who sees this video fails to notice the 10,000 people maybe more standing on One River Bank are all holding sheet music in their hands ,the group is on the other bank. The river itself is a barrier keeping the band from the music and keeping the people from the band. The band then boards the ship which takes them across the river to the people who are holding all of the sheet music,ending the silence
