Ahh Dangan Ronpa, definitely one of the more infamous video game franchises right now for its troubled development, pretentiousness, and its crazy fanbase that reaches Sonic and Pokemon levels of toxicity. Dangan Ronpa is a series of mystery solving virtual novels, very much in the vein of Ace Attorney though with a darker tone and twisted sense of humor.
In the first game, now subtitled Trigger Happy Havoc, you play as an amnesiac high school student who finds himself in a strange academy ran by a maniacal teddy bear named Monobear. Things in this nasty place get worse when Monobear starts a game, one where one of the students murders someone else! The student body must then figure out who the killer is. If they succeed, the culprit is punished... If they fail though the murderer "graduates" from the school and gets off scot-free whilst everyone else is killed, adding more responsibility onto the shoulders of the protagonist.
Naturally though, the young detective succeeds and catches the murderer. Monobear then takes the killer and BRUTALLY executes him in front of the rest of the student body. Even if such a fate was deserved for the despicable killer, the students are understandably horrified and this incredibly ominous song begins to play. The overall emptiness of it and droning wind-like noises really add to the hopeless feel of the tune.
Oh also there is another song called Despair-Syndrome, which is another intense song but this one is far creepier. And yes, the only difference in the spelling is indeed the hyphen.
