It occurred to me that if I were to do 13 songs, then the final number of DVGM on my channel would be 239... I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS! To make it a good even 240, I will uploading one more video tomorrow. So ya'll get an extra song today; one I got a lot of requests for, and for good reason!
Tales Of Legendia is the seventh entry in the Tales Of series, a classic franchise of JRPGs that has been around since the Super Famicom. The Tales Of games help differentiate themselves from other JRPGS with their unique real-time battle system that make battles play almost like a beat em up. Like Final Fantasy the games generally do not take place in the same universe, but have connecting elements in terms of themes, monsters, and summonable beings. Tales Of Legendia would be the last game in the series to use the classic 2D battle system that each previous game had, with the next game (Tales of the Abyss) bringing in a new fully 3D battle system that each game has had since then.
Tales Of Legendia takes place on a world almost entirely covered in water where most of humanity lives on boats. Suddenly an especially huge boat called the Legacy appears, colossal enough to have its own civilization living on it. The heroes then investigate and soon find themselves caught in a war between the goodly goddess of light and the evil goddess of darkness... Yeah, outside of the unique world it is pretty standard JRPG fare, which remains one of the biggest criticisms of this game to this day. The game definitely has its moments though and by far the most well known thing about the game today is its final dungeon: a realm of broken time and distorted landscapes called the Cradle of Time, its music of which is an EXTREMELY distorted version of the main villain's theme. The song itself would be incredibly creepy even among tracks in something like Silent Hill, but the song is just nothing like anything else on Legendia's peppy and epic soundtrack.
It is yet another case of a truly harrowing song being in something mostly light, which makes the song have that much of an impact and helps an otherwise forgettable game stand up alongside Earthbound and Klonoa in terms of surprise creepy.
