How often, when we encounter a problem, have we caught our ‘ego’ coming in hard and fast driving our reactions and actions? It becomes exhausting, because we continually place ourselves as the center of the action creating 'drama' as victims of micromanaging boss, demanding colleagues, and more. In this thought provoking and pragmatic talk, Cy Wakeman, challenges us all to ‘ditch the drama’, take our ‘ego’ out of the picture and reframe what is ‘actually’ happening. When we do that, we refocus our energy and talent. Not only do we find more creative solutions to our world and the challenges we face, but in doing so live happier and more productive lives. Cy Wakeman is a drama researcher, global thought-leader, and New York Times best-selling author recognized for her reality-based approach to leadership and life. Recognized for her reality-based approach to leadership and life. Deemed “the secret weapon to restoring sanity to the workplace,” her Reality-Based Leadership Philosophy has helped thousands of organizations like Facebook, Google, Pfizer, and National Institutes of Health learn to harness energy wasted in drama and reinvest that effort into achieving profound results and true employee engagement. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

If I had a dollar for every time I've encouraged someone to separate the drama in their head from the reality of the situation, I'd be a very rich woman. Thank you for continuing to share your wisdom in a way that easily translates into all aspects of life. You help me bring my best brilliant self to work every day. I recommend your books, blogs, newsletters and videos to everyone!

I am so happy to see Cy on the TED stage! I met Cy 2.5 years ago and her philosophy has radically changed me for the better. I'm currently 20 years old and have quickly immersed myself into the working world and my ego gets in my way daily. Cy showed me a way past that. Cy made my work life better, my relationships better, I'm happier at more at peace moving through life because of the wisdom she shared in this very talk. If you haven't yet, please dive into Cy's KZbin videos and content all across social. She will make you better. Love you Cy!

So great to hear Cy share this message. I've been a practitioner of many of her techniques to self-reflect when I am in "drama" mentally and they have helped so much in being able to succeed in spite of the challenging circumstances that life brings. This last question "What would great look like?" is something I am going to add to my own self-reflection when I am frustrated or stuck. That simple question seems to show the clear next steps I could take to add value, make a difference and restore my own happiness in any situation. Can't wait to hear where Cy goes with her message from this talk! I hope to hear more of her personal story and how she used all of her experience and teachings to ditch the drama in tough situations over the years. Thank you for everything Cy!

This was great, Cy! Those three questions are simple, yet so impactful! And most overlook them because they’ve been conditioned to operate in their ‘low self’ which is a victim mentality. That in itself can be utterly exhausting so to be able to combat that and deploy perspective to see the larger picture is truly a skill everyone needs to master! Loved this talk, love the message!

You are right in that we've often been conditioned to see the world in a certain way. It's when we can challenge ourselves to open our minds and hearts to different viewpoints and ways of thinking that we can seek the truth. Thank you for taking the time to watch, and for following along!

Fabulous stories Cy! I am always inspired by you. I always take away something new from you. Our EGO's are always trying to lead us down a path of judgment, control, fear, and anxiety. I plan to implant in my brain the three questions as I move along each day. Thank you so much for sharing your time and your gift!!!

I personally have been able to use these 3 questions in my day-to-day and trust me, they seem really simple, but they do work. I have found that Cy's ability to teach these simple techniques to quickly help you live with less drama in the moment can completely change your life and the way you view challenging/unfair situations. Really excited to see where her journey takes her with some of this new content around her personal story. I look forward to seeing how else she helps us "Live Happy in a Messy World" moving forward.
