I agree about the issues with the backlog, but I missed ( i was multitasking) what is the replacement? Where do you track things that need to be done, but not immediately?

I personally favour a User Story Map for this. I believe it suits this problem really well.

Learning the basics of programming, so the po can effectively communicate with developers? Too often po's say I don't understand what developers are talking about. The product is software, not a PowerPoint presentation.

Product owners help to guide shape up teams during their builds if they need it. Most of the time however, PO's are thinking about the next pitches to shape.
